Sorry, had to delete and repost this as there was a problem with the video (that I should have double checked before posting)! Thank you Brian for pointing it out ;-)

These new features are absolutely bonkers! Several of these automated processes, like the progress bar, I used to spend hours making my own little workarounds. Can’t wait to start my new training classes as these updates are very timely! Keep up the great work!

Great work, Rob. I haven't come across your content before but this was really useful and there were features of Camtasia 2024 that I wasn't aware of before. Didn't know that the 2025 version was coming so soon!

Phenomenal video! Very educational and I have to say you just sold a copy of Camtasia 2024 to this person (me) 😆 what I would like to know for people who have 2022 version already is there a black Friday sale that will allow me to upgrade to 2024 for a lesser price? Please let me know soon. I am very grateful. Thank you.❤

That's great, thank you! And YES... Camtasia is having a Black Friday Week sale that runs until December 6 where all NEW users can get their first year of Camtasia for 25% off. Details should be on their website or by clicking the link I have below ;-)

@ that’s great and thank you for answering me so quickly Rob. I have Camtasia 2022 and really liked it until I saw your video. Do you know if they have a sale for people who already have Camtasia and want to upgrade?

How about creating "Absolute Beginner" series? Short vertical videos maybe? Cover subjects like, what are tracks? Do track orders matter? Can we move tracks up and down? What happens if we do? How do we split sound and video (this in slow motion because Techsmith does not explain it at all)... maybe "Make your first YT video" with basic edits, titles, transitions and so on. I'd pay you for a video like this. Thank you

Hi Rob. I’m so glad to have found your channel. I downloaded Camtasia 2024 on my M1 MBP. I do run Parallels on my Mac because most of my videos are recorded showing Windows based software. I know Camtasia doesn’t support Parallels. That’s a bummer. It would be nice to know if there are others with a similar setup and how I could troubleshoot. Camtasia 2024 for the Mac opened up without issue. However, the screens do seem very different from the Windows version that I’ve used for years. I would like to know your thoughts about Microphone choices. I am recording content using my iPhone as well as my iPad Pro.
@RobtheMaritimer5 ай бұрын
It sounds like your situation is similar to mine... I use a Macbook Pro M1 Max and I also run Parallels (for other reasons)... but I don't run Camtasia in Parallels. When I need to record something in Windows I use an old Windows laptop I have, but I'll usually just use it to get the recordings and do my editing in the MBP. There isn't much difference in the "look" of Camtasia between Windows and Mac versions now... could it be that you're using an older version in Windows? As for microphones, I'm a big believer in shotgun mics since they're so good at only picking up my voice and nothing else around it. I use the Synco Mic-D2 and since it's an XLR mic (not USB) I also need an audio interface... I use the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. That mic works great for making videos, doing voiceovers and live streaming. iPhones are great for video (especially the newer ones) but not so much for audio. I hope that helps :-)

I hope it's okay I drop in a question about camtasia here!! I have Camtasia 2024, and I'm finding that wherever I split my video, the volume from one to the next video is drastically different! It shows as being the same when I look into the audio properties for both. I've even tried not cutting anything out, just adding a split but continuing the video as normal and it still drastically changes the volume until I make another split. I've had camtasia since 2019 and it's never done this before. Wondering if anyone is having the same issues?
@RobtheMaritimer3 ай бұрын
I have not experienced this at all... it may be something you need to contact Techsmith's tech support about.

Thanks, Rob. For those of us who purchased the 2024 with the perpetual license, do we miss out and will have to pay again in October? Do you happen to know?
@RobtheMaritimer6 ай бұрын
If you purchased 2024 with a perpetual license, then that comes with 1 year of free maintenance... it means you're on the maintenance plan. Assuming you purchased 2024 when it came out last week, you'll get all updates for at least a year... until your maintenance plan is up for renewal. So YES, you'll get Camtasia 2025 in October at no extra cost. THEN, just be sure to keep renewing your maintenance plan and you'll always get the updates :-)

Why you change the tracks color? Early version was green and now is gray. My eyes suffer with dark gray and clear gray when I am editing.
@RobtheMaritimerАй бұрын
For a question like that, you'll need to ask Camtasia/Techsmith directly. I think it's been a long time since they changed it though... it's looked like this for several years now.

Thank you from Brazil!!! Camtasia 2024 is nice! It is a shame that Camtasia will be available just in a subscribed plan.
@RobtheMaritimer5 ай бұрын
You're welcome :-) I think the subscription model will be good for the long-term future of the software. And if you're already a Camtasia customer, just make sure your maintenance plan is up to date (and renew it when the time comes), and you'll be able to stay on that plan :-)

Sigh. I'm disappointed they haven't updated the export settings yet. There simply isn't any control over the type of vide that gets created during an export. I'm not expecting Final Cut level setting but something more than "video or video with player." For example, when I export the video, I notice the created video file uses 44.1kHz audio (old school CD quality) vs the industry standard 48kHz for HD videos. I realize that's a nit pick issue that most folks don't care about. Additionally, I've been recording all my footage using AV1 on my RTX 4080 plus a video capture card so I can get video from other systems. I use OBS to record MKV files with the AV1 codec as it currently provides the best quality vs file size. Unfortunately, Camtasia does not support AV1 at all (encode or decode) although the format is unencumbered and available for many years and supported by most graphics cards now.

Be sure to let TechSmith know of any features you'd like them to add... they're hard at work on new features and what features they work on is directly dependent on the feature requests and feedback they get from their customers. Thank you for the feedback! :-)

Thanks for the feedback @JasonTaylor-po5xc We're definitely going to be looking at some of what you listed here, so...stay tuned...

@@KellyRushTechSmith Thanks Kelly. I used to use Camtasia about 10 years ago at version 8 for all my first courses on Udemy. I had to switch away from it because of stability issues on my system but I've hoping to return since I do appreciate the training-centric features simply not found on NLEs.

Hey, I have a question. When you save the file, it gives you a way to customize the resolution and file size. What percentage does it have to be at in order to be 1080p?
@RobtheMaritimer4 ай бұрын
I don't think of it as a percentage... but for it to be 1080p the dimensions have to be exactly 1920 wide x 1080 high, in pixels. I hope that helps :-)
@meta527II4 ай бұрын
@@RobtheMaritimer i mean in the encoding tab, where it has a bar that lets you choose between smaller file size and higher quality.
@RobtheMaritimer4 ай бұрын
@@meta527II Ah ok... there is no definite answer as it really depends on the type of video. If you're making tutorial videos with screen recordings... not much in the way of fast-moving scenes, then for 1080p/30fps somewhere in the 8-10 Mbps range is fine. For videos with lots of motion, then you'd want to go higher, maybe 12-15 Mbps. I generally leave it set to automatic (I use a mac... it looks a bit different on a PC).

The 2024 update only includes new feature dynamic captions, which isn't enough to justify renewing my subscription.
@wendyhamilton31635 ай бұрын
2024 is the last perpetual release ever so that is something to consider. If you do keep renewing maintenance you also are exempt from 'subscription' pricing levels and can get all new releases at maintenance pricing. Be aware if you cancel then you lose that eligibility for discounted pricing permanently and would have to pay at subscription rates if you were to change your mind in the future.
