Owned a Maserati quattroporte 08 GTS since 2014, it’s a beguiling car to drive, I don’t notice the bumpy ride now, but it cruises on the motorway nicely with the cruise control set to nearly 3 digits, and once you get to a country road, (the highlands of Scotland being a favourite) it is like nothing else, long open roads and great acceleration coupled with smooth quick cornering make for an ideal GT car with loads of room, apart from finicky electrics, it’s been a very good vehicle, and these early ones are more like £15k now which is a bit of a bargain for the right owner

It's really a fast GT coupe ballooned out to a 4-door, which is something the Italians have pretty much always done (I can remember the introduction of the very first Quattroporte). I would take issue with your description of £30k value on the QP. I own a 2007 QP auto and I must say I love it but it’s value will be nearer £10-12k now so the 2020 model featured will be lucky to make £15k. And everything you say about the Maserati sounds about right for my Alfa Giulia. It is just not Mercedes in terms of luxury car...but when you want a sports car, it is all you can ask for and more. It isn't horrible when just poking around, but it doesn't feel special until you really start to drive it. So you've got your tomato and your Ferrari. Any long term thought on either? The QP may well have a split personality and unexpected strengths and weaknesses, but it's nothing like this actual comparison, for being pointless and silly. • The frame of reference changes by the minute. (Family car? GT? Luxury car? Value for money?) • The hyperbole is as highly babbled as that in any 27 video I've seen. • A few points of difference are highlighted, but most are briefly referred to, or ignored completely. (Surely, boot and other storage space is a relevant feature to assess the success of a luxury car - no mention. Where and how is the QP less roomy?) • How many km had each car done? • Even more significant, did they either car have new, or even decent quality tyres fitted? These heavily influence ride comfort, steering feel, cornering grip - even interior noise (Jack never _ever_ mentions tyres, in these very random car features.) 🤷🏼♂️

@@Number27 No I understand they sell for more but I guess that is because they are so reliable. a 1996 one just went for just over £2k on eBay with 95k miles on the clock.

Knowing the price paid for the Mercedes would add an awful lot to the satisfaction factor.... What comfort for the price of a seasonal adult bus pass...
@Engineerd3d3 жыл бұрын
Coming from a 650mile trip in a w116 s class. I agree the comfort is a Merc DNA trait and they do handle very well for what they are, 40 miles of mountain twisty roads were part of the trip. Having driven a few S-Class cars w126, W140 and including the w220, they do feel "special". With that said the Maserati ticks a bunch more boxes for me and will be the next toy. It may be schizofrenico but it is a car you look back at after a drive and they do turn hydrocarbons into a symphony.

I have never ever driven good handling Merc, most of them are horrible to drive,

@@coltr7561 depends on your expectations. I tend to dig the magic carpet ride and still lean it into corners harder than most folk. I suppose it's subjective.

The Maserati sounds lovely but that carbon steering wheel is horrible. I’m not sure it was meant to be a luxury car, I think it was supposed to be a four door sports car.

I think Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson described the Quattroporte best, 'It's like a 2 year old child. 70% of the time it's annoying, but if someone tried to take it from you you'd kill them.'

The Model years for ALL THE CARS you review should always be in the description!... Don't you think that is very relevant?
@burakguray50803 жыл бұрын
As u mentioned jack, dark years started with low quality 1995 e class and 97 m class 97 a class 99 s class 97 clk continue this trend until 2005 s class has been revealed. On the other hand, fiat is professional to destroy legacy strong cars like alfa romeo / lancia / maserati. Current maserati ghibli quattroporte had token interior parts like chyrsler 300c / dodge dart that is why these cars are losing %50 of their value in 3 years.

I could bare that Maserati,you’ve been spoilt by the plushness of that old merc.Try riding a road bike for a day and then get in the Maserati.😆

It’s quite simple Jack, the MB is a luxury car with sporting pretensions while the Maserati is a sports car with luxury pretensions.

I really think you have compared an apple with an orange in this one. The person who chooses to buy a Mercedes will not be thinking of a Maserati as an alternative.

Yeah mate, makes non sense, everybody has two, three parking spaces or is an old chap who can't bear the Maserari sport suspension.

This is a fun video, but is your wonderful Merc better than the big bad Maserati? Could a £900 shed be batter than a £30k ballerina? It sounds too good to be true. The Merc is almost certainly better than the Maserati as an A-Z car, but you forget one very very important thing - The Maserati is cooler. The whole point of buying either car when new was to prove to your neighbours how Very Very rich you are. Nothing else matters, Otherwise, we would be driving Mondeos which are also excellent cars, but just aren't as cool.
