You can't blanket say old SAE gross HP is 20% higher number than DIN, there is a small difference in the number of watts between DIN HP and imperial HP , just over 1% when tested like for like, but the difference between US SAE gross HP and net DIN comes from the test conditions - exhaust , ancillaries like Aircon pump generator etc. That difference in test conditions has a bigger % effect on small engines than large ones. If you compare modern net SAE HP and DIN HP you are back to just that small difference in watts between imperial and DIN HP.

Lovely! I am reminded of a gymkhana race sponsored by the Corvette Club held at the Indianapolis Raceway Park in 1969. To their chagrin, the fastest time of the day? A Fiat 850 (with a little help from Abarth). My 124 Coupe didn't do as well.

A strut brace was a game changer to the handling on my 156. If you still have it, I'd pop one on and take it out for a blast.

The dash with real wood looks better than anything made today. Nobody is going to enjoy making videos of 2025 model year cars with 50 year old screens.

This car was designed and built to be all over the magazines, to wonder car enthusiasts, then draw people into Renault dealers only to be sold a Renault 5 or Renault 11 Turbo of the era. In that way, it was very successful.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the text under the video states 'faster, lighter, and cheaper than it's competitors from Porsche. The Porsche 944 turbo from 1985 had 217hp. The Renault GTA Turbo from 1985 had 197hp. The Porsche 944 Turbo from 1985 weighed 1180kg. You stated in this video, the GTA Turbo weighed 1150-1200kg. Identical to the Porsche in reality. The 1985 944 Turbo did 0-100kph in 5.9 secs. Top speed 261kph. the 1985 GTA Turbo did 0-100kph in 6.4 secs. Top speed 240kph. Along with many technological advances such as ABS braking, a transaxle, and more, the Porsche was Faster, More Powerful, and the same weight. So as much as I love your content, you really should research a bit more before stating things which are simply untrue.

Well, Everything wasn’t designed in CAD back then, it was clay and physical models, That’s how various cars turned out more different than today.

200 hp is not exactly little considering the fact that cars were so much lighter than the last 20 or so years. I remember a kind of review of a Porsche 911 in 1981 were they spoke of the "immense power" you have to beware of, of ... 180hp.

Look at that centre console - the incar hifi dominates the portion the console that's moves into the dash. 80s turbo always a handful on a wet road they were either on or off 🤣. If you get a chance in an Isuzu Piazza Jack be wary even in the 'Lotus Handling' version.

Keep your piece of pipe to play around on a Saturday morning with the twin SUs of your MGB. If your chasing a misfire on a 8 or 12 cylinder engine in a particular rev range, and perhaps also intermittent, your wasting your time, even if you happen to be very charming and called Ian Tyrrell !!!

A wonderful car about half the price of a Porsche Carrera in the late 80s but blighted by the British suspicion of French cars of this ilk. Probably at its best as a continental grand tourer. I very nearly bought one of these in the late 90s to replace a 21 Turbo Quadra. The price then - £3500. How I wish.

That's (as usual) a spot on review. Let it settle and use the mid-range is exactly how to do it. As a continental express they just chomp high speed autobahn miles. I have had two of those. The second was a daily driver for 18 years, it had the full leather and aircon when I bought it with only 5k miles on the clock. I'd have another in a heatbeat (but with two Alpines already I'd be pushing my luck!). It was and still is one of the best cars I have driven. Buying one now would need much care, although mine was utterly reliable it would be very easy to buy a lot of trouble.
