I come from a long line of alcoholics. I don’t drink, not because I don’t like alcohol, but because I do. I haven’t had a drop of alcohol in 18 years. I decided this Demon in our family has to be defeated, the madness had to stop. I decided it stops with me. I never want my children to see me drunk and stumbling around as I seen my father. When you see your Earthly father as weak and pathetic it breaks you. I know I have a Strong Heavenly Father who won’t let me down.

The following article is by the late Bruce Lackey: SOME INTRODUCTORY BIBLE FACTS ABOUT WINE: 1. The word wine in the Bible is a generic term; sometimes it means grape juice; sometimes it means alcoholic beverages. The following verses prove that the word “wine” can mean fresh grape juice, the fruit of the vine: De. 11:14; 2 Ch. 31:5; Ne. 13:15; Pr. 3:10; Is. 16:10; 65:8; 1 Ti. 5:23. 2. The context will always show when “wine” refers to alcoholic beverages. In such cases, God discusses the bad effects of it and warns against it. An example would be Gen. 9, Noah’s experience after the Flood. Verse 21, “and he drank of the wine, and was drunken,” clearly refers to alcoholic beverage. Prov. 20:1 speaks of the same thing when it warns us, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging; and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” Alcoholic wine is deceptive; but how? In the very way that people are advocating today, by saying that drinking a little bit will not hurt. Everyone admits that drinking too much is bad; even the liquor companies tell us not to drive and drink, but they insist that a small amount is all right. However, that is the very thing that is deceptive. Who knows how little to drink? Experts tell us that each person is different. It takes an ounce to affect one, while more is necessary for another. The same person will react to alcohol differently, depending on the amount of food he has had, among other things. So, the idea that “a little bit won’t hurt” is deceptive, and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise! Prov. 23:30-31 refers to alcoholic wine, because it tells us in the previous verse that those who drink it have woe, sorrow, contentions, babbling, wounds without cause, and redness of eyes. What a graphic description of those who “tarry long” at alcoholism. Verses 32-35 continue the same description; context always makes it clear when alcohol is meant. 3. Scripture warns against the drinking of alcoholic wine. The Bible is consistent on this, both in the Old and New Testaments. The two previously quoted passages, Pr. 20:1 and 23:29-35, are good examples of scriptural warnings against consuming alcohol. Pr. 23:32 says “at the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.” Verse 33 shows that it will cause one to look at strange women (that is, not one’s wife) and to say perverse things, or things which he would not say if he were sober. Verse 34 predicts that it will cause death, such as drowning, or loneliness, such as lying upon the top of a mast. Verse 35 warns against numbness (“they have beaten me and I felt it not”) and “addiction (“when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again”). Prov. 31:4-5 teaches, “It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: lest they drink and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.” The danger is obvious. By the way, Prov. 31:6,7 give us the only legitimate use of alcoholic wine in Scripture. “Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.” This would be using it as an anesthetic; a painkiller. But this is not for everyone; he says in v. 6, “unto him that is ready to perish.” Of course, they did not have all the painkillers that we have today. In our time, it would not be necessary to do this. We have many anesthetics available for those who are dying. Then, about the only thing available to the average person would have been some kind of alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant; it is not a stimulant, as some think. After several drinks, one gets dizzy; then he will pass out. So this passage teaches that alcoholic beverage would be only for the person who is ready to die; there would be no hope for his life. All that would be possible would be to ease his pain and help him forget his misery. Another passage is Isa. 5:11. “Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!” Obviously this is alcoholic, because it inflames. Why does he say, “Woe unto them”? Verse 12 answers, “...they regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands.” Everyone knows that when one gives himself to the drinking of alcoholic beverage, he will not be more spiritual, more desirous of learning the Word of God. To the contrary, it causes a person to ignore the Lord. Verses 13-14 reveal two other serious results: people go into captivity (become slaves to something or someone) and Hell enlarges itself! The drinking of alcoholic wine has caused Hell to be enlarged! God does not want anyone to go to Hell; He has given the greatest, dearest gift that He possibly could, to rescue sinners from it. He never made Hell for people. The Lord Jesus Christ said that Hell was prepared for the devil and his angels (Mt. 25:41). However, because of evil alcohol, Hell has had an enlargement campaign. Here, then, is a clear warning against drinking alcohol, because God does not want anyone to go to Hell. Isa. 28:7,8 continues the warning. “But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.” What a tragic thing, that even in the days of Isaiah, the priests and prophets were engaged in the drinking of alcoholic wine! Thus we see that the problem of preachers recommending alcohol is not new. Six hundred years before Christ, demon alcohol had worked its way into religion. 4. The making of alcoholic beverages is not a strictly natural process. Years ago I took for granted that if you took the juice of a grape and let it alone, not refrigerating it, it would automatically, in time, turn into alcoholic wine. There are several reasons why this is not true. It takes more than time to make wine. Sometimes people try to defend its use by saying that it must be good because God made it. But, the fact is, God did not make it. Man has learned how to make alcoholic liquors through processes that he has invented. Wine-makers know that one must have the correct amount of water, sugar, and temperature to make wine. Keeping grape juice in a refrigerator would prevent if from fermenting, because the temperature is not right. Likewise, hot, tropical temperature would prevent fermentation. In ancient days, before we had refrigeration and vacuum-sealing ability, people learned to preserve the juice of the grape without turning it into alcoholic wine. Many people boiled it down into thick syrup. By doing so, they could preserve it for long periods of time. When they got ready to drink it, they would simply add the water to the consistency desired, in much the same way that we take frozen concentrates and add water. In Bible days, contrary to what many believe, it was not necessary for everyone to drink alcoholic wine as a table beverage.

@@cynthia_1831 Well, you are half% correct. The gathering of the saints makes a Church, not the building. Sure a Service can be held at home, i support that ! BUT it really does matter on which day Christ followers hold their Service. Who are we to change God's law ? Are we now saying that God made a mistake ? Or God was a fool when he gave that law ? Then why in heaven did he himself blessed and sanctified Saturday as the Sabbath and not Sunday ????????? This question supposed to ring in our conscience! There must be a devine anointing or visitation on Sabbaths that we are missing out because of ignorance. And perhaps the Lord is shaking his head, because we are still the state of a deeper sleep. Just imagine that. The scriptures say "My people perish because of lack of knowledge "! We are living in the end times; it's high time that we wake up !!!

God had been trying to save me for years, i would go to jail for dui's seek God, get out then back to my old crap. Prison, seeked and walked with God, got out, back drinking, same game over and over. Till sept. 3ard 2018, God gave me 1more chance to listen to Him. A demond was in my house, i heard the heavy footsteps nd thought it was my brother. Come to find out in the morning, it wasn't. He left black residue on the bathroom floor and scratched my dad's back and left the same residue in his bed. I got scared and i obeyed God. I called the church laidies and they came and layed hands on us and anointed the house. From that moment on, no urge to drink. Instantly healed, washed in His blood, a new creation. Praise God. THIS IS WHAT THE HOLY GHOST TAUGHT ME FROM THE BIBLE IN THE BIBLE THEY ARE TWO TYPES OF WINE 1)Fermented wine =Intoxicating wine =Alcohol and 2) Unfermented wine = non-intoxicating wine = Grape Juice = Fresh wine. It was unfermented wine which is GRAPE JUICE that Jesus Christ our Lord made at the wedding at Cana in Galilee. Drinking alcohol,,,beers..liquor is sin before God. Drinking and drunkenness both sins because they defile the temple of God which is our bodies (1 Corinth 3 v 16-17) Just like smoking...doing drugs...are also sins before God because they DEFILE HIS TEMPLE which are our bodies. NOTE: ALL VERSES WHICH SPEAK POSITIVELY ABOUT WINE IN THE BIBLE Are speaking of Unfermented wine = non-intoxicating wine = Grape Juice = Fresh wine. and ALL VERSES WHICH SPEAK NEGATIVELY ABOUT WINE IN THE BIBLE Are speaking of Fermented wine =Intoxicating wine =Alcohol

@jimmy56343 жыл бұрын
@@danielvalenzuela1019 please explain what you mean by that.
@danielvalenzuela10193 жыл бұрын
@@jimmy5634 Gnostics taught that the physical body, material realm, and it's pleasures were intrinsically evil. That we should beat the natural in order to gain the spiritual. Which is completely anti-grace and anti-Christ. Was Jesus less "spiritual" or "holy" because he drank wine... "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ "... I'm not saying he was a drunkard, but surely he wasn't called one for drinking grape juice. Alcohol is a gift from God just as sex (Psalm 104:15) , but we must filter it through the word of God. Sex is for marriage and wine (alcohol is to be enjoyed with moderation), money for generosity, etc. Paul even called that kind of abstinence a doctrine of demons: 1 Tim. 4 "Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons... who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth." And anti-grace because you are relying on your effort or "abstinence" for your spiritual growth and not the finished work of Christ. I'm not saying we shouldn't walk holy, but it's not by trusting in our "outward observances" but in Christ alone. Enjoying the pleasures and gifts God gave us with thanks giving, but filtered through the Word. Hope I gave a clear explanation.

@@danielvalenzuela1019 I believe what your saying apart from alcohol i believe in being sober, but yes we should enjoy life, not be over righteous, find the balance but don't twist it, find the right balance and right pleasures, but we also have to remember there a time for everything, sometimes God wants you go on a detox on pleasure, no distractions at all, and we should wait on the lord for information on things we are not sure about, not lean on own understanding, cause the fruit of spirit is still long-suffering, and patience, but sometimes God wants us to become the cup on certain things, through his discernment spirit, so the thing is watch really careful how walk, don't give a inch, serve the lord with fear, try become perfect, do what God wants, it's all about the right balance and waiting on God
@danielvalenzuela10193 жыл бұрын
@@alextsc1050 why wouldn't you agree with the alcohol part? Do you adhere to abstentionism? You can still enjoy a few drinks and still be sober. Or maybe I misunderstood you... But regardless, you can't divorce your humanity from your spirituality. Of course there are times for everything, living in a constant state of intoxication us not what I'm talking about. What I'm trying to say is that abstaining from alcohol (or any other God given pleasure) doesn't make you "holier" Or brings you closer to God, the same way that sex (inside the parameters of marriage) doesn't bring you closer or separate you from God. And of course we should wait on the Lord! But I don't find biblical the "detox from pleasure" part. That's the gnostic heresy I'm talking about, doctrines of demons as Paul said, "forbidding people to marry (sex), and order them to abstain from certain foods (meat, alcohol, etc) which God created to be received with thanksgiving..." 1 Tim. 4 And we don't "try" to be perfect. We believe and trust that Jesus already accomplished it for us! That's the amazing part of the Gospel, resting in His finished work. Not on our religious formulas. It's all by grace, through faith. We need to stop to "try" to climb an invisible ladder which God never intended for us in the first place

I can attest. I've been drinking hard and heavy for nearly 10 years. But, I've been sober for 2 months now. By 17 years old, I had become an alcoholic. By the time I was 18 I was drinking almost a case of beer a day. So that's anywhere between 12 to 18 beers a day. So I have easily drank more than 30,000 beers in the last 8 years. (I mean you figure at LEAST 12 beers a day, at LEAST 5 days a week, 4 weeks every month for 12 months, multiply that 8 for years, and you get at LEAST 23,040 beers over the span of 8 years and that is on the LOW end considering I rarely got a 12 pack. I almost ALWAYS bought a 15 or an 18 pack of beer.) And that is not counting all the bottles of spirits and liquor I've drank on top of it. I have even drank during work hours before. And drinking certainly does effect your life in major ways. And this is not just a matter of physical health. My father also drank a lot when he was young. I believe it had a lot to do with why cheated on my mother. And because of his infidelity, my father and mother have not been together since I was only a year old. These things can effect your life big time. Alcohol has done so much damage to me and my life. I'd say that every time I talk about it, I always tell people not to do it and that it's not worth it. And it isn't. Being 2 months sober, my head is more clear, my joints don't ache and hurt like they did, I can get out of bed faster because I'm more rested after I sleep, etc. I have less anxiety as well. I mean I still have it, but not nearly as bad as I experienced it drinking. The withdrawals would send me into an otherworldly, life-altering panic attack. And really it's the withdrawals that get users to come back. People who don't struggle with substance abuse don't often understand that those of us who "use" don't actually want to keep doing what we're doing. It's not that we want to keep doing it, it has more to do with how we will feel if we DON'T do it. If you've never experienced withdrawals, I tell you they are no "walk in the park". They are seriously like being in a nightmare while you're awake. My anxiety would get SO BAD that I couldn't breathe. My blood pressure would get so high that I once almost passed out in the street. I would suffer auditory and visual hallucinations, laid there in cold sweats, you name it. It's nearly killed me more than once. I have drank more beer and spirits and liquor in the last 8 years than some men will drink in their entire lives. What's both crazy and tragic is that there are men who can drink more than I can. That blows me away because I think I drink quite enough as it stands. Not many men can say they've consumed nearly 40,000 beers in only a handful of years. It is nothing to brag about either. It is tragic and pathetic (I use that word sympathetically and with consideration). Even with all of this, I will say that alcohol is not in itself inherently evil. The evil is in giving yourself to excess. We are called to be sober throughout scripture. So I think we should take heed to that. And this also applies to all of those who like to conveniently excuse marijuana as a "safe alternative" and those that say "hey, at least I'm not drunk!" Yeah, you may not be drunk. But you aren't sober either. So that "I'm not drunk" excuse goes out the window. You aren't sober if you're stoned out of your gourd. I started smoking marijuana when I was 15 and I can promise you, you are NOT sober. I don't smoke it anymore, but I remember the days when I was a teenager. I'd smoke from the time I woke up til the time I went to bed. The Lord isn't going to give you a pass just because you aren't drinking. You are using a substance to alter the state of your mind and consciousness. THAT IS NOT BEING SOBER. I feel the same with taking pills as well. I stay away from EVERYTHING anymore. I used to smoke marijuana, take pills, I even did coke a few times. Come out of that life if you are in it brothers and sisters. It is not worth it at all. And if you fear the withdrawals, just know that they will come. But they will also go. My alcohol withdrawals would give me like mild seizures. But when I was tempted to drink to take care of it, I denied myself. If we don't force ourselves to get through it sometimes, we might not ever get through it.

I could write a book on the things I’ve seen when the ‘Christian’ engages or refuses to repent of the drinking lifestyle. It always tears me up inside when I see my brothers & sisters fall into this bondage. I was involved in a church 25 yrs ago that was lead by a strong pastor. He preached on the dangers of drinking. 1 by 1, the people started leaving the church until finally the body dissipated. I’ve been looking a lot of those people up recently to see if they still follow Christ. It’s not hard to find them, most of them are at the bars at night. When I asked 1 gentleman, ‘Are you still following Jesus?’ He answered, ‘I’m so far from God, it’s ridiculous!’ So I shared the message of salvation w/ him & told him, ‘No. You’re only 1 prayer away from God, his mercy & grace can deliver you from this lifestyle, but it’s gonna be a decision that YOU have to make. God loves you, do you want to be a fan of Jesus or do you want to be a follower? You know the truth, but you have to put actions to your words in order to escape this lifestyle that binds you.’ He cried & said, I’ll think about it.’ Just seeing a lost brother in that state of mind is heart breaking.

I’m not perfect & have struggles of my own, but I believe what Jesus said about repentance & I take it seriously when I know how my sins dishonor God. One by one, on a daily basis, I work to rid myself of the garbage that not only displease God, but ruins my testimony for Him. I know how I feel when I see a wishy washy Christian doing whatever they want w/out regard on how they are perceived by unbelievers. Honestly, it’s hard to tell who are the lost & who are actually saved people when the two types hang out sometimes.

I had a Pastor who’s father was an alcoholic. He would preach that alcohol was a sin. He applied his situation to his preaching in the pulpit instead of what the Word says. The Bible made it a point to emphasize John the Baptist never drank wine or any form of alcohol. Not one word that Jesus abstained. In Jesus’s own words he said to the Pharisees and scribes that John came neither drinking or eating and you said he had a demon but you call the Son of man a drunkard and a glutton. Jesus also at the first communion. This will be the last time I drink wine with you until I drink new wine with you in heaven. Jesus also made wine( his 1st miracle) for the wedding party. My father lived to be 69. Occasionally he would like the taste of a beer or a glass of wine. I never saw him drunk in my entire life. He would buy a six pack of beer and have one and four months later there would still be five in the fridge. I enjoy a beer or a glass of wine occasionally. I give thanks to our Lord for the blessing of the beer or wine. I from time to time open one because it sounds good to me but after drinking a couple swallows it just doesn’t taste that good to me and I dump it down the drain.I do not get drunk or abuse alcohol. I try in my walk to follow the guiding of the Holy Spirit if he would tell me not to have alcohol then I would not drink it. I told our Pastor if it was a sin to him then it was a sin but not to put his sins on me. I know of people who are obese. They stuff cakes, candies, various sweet down their throats. They have sugar diabetes. Would it be right to say cookies are a sin to everyone? As a 16 year old I came to Christ. At the age of 19-20 I backslide. I entered the military and spent some times in the bars drinking with friends and getting drunk. Even though I was backslider the Holy Spirit still laid it on my heart I was sinning. That was over 40 years ago. I have since come back to my Lord and savior. I do not get drunk but I do occasionally have a beer or a class of wine and do not hear from the Holy Spirit that it’s a sin. Thank you if you’ve read all this and God bless

Thank God I'm going to church again been associating with my pastor, brothers in christ and participating in prayer meetings and Bible studies and now I'm 2 weeks sober something I couldn't do just by one drink at a time, only God can change a living soul, I'm going to continue like this in Jesus name all who is in him is set free, amen 🙏.

I completely agree as well. Alcohol is an evil addicting drug. Why even go there? I will never understand why Christians think it's ok to social drink, wine or other alcohol. It's not! Ive seen first hand what it does to individuals and families. It's satan's drink straight from hell. Why would one ever even play with that kind of fire. It leads to nowhere good. Medicinal purposes? Ok, I understand. But when you take it for medicinal purposes, then treat it like medicine! Don't drink a whole glass full of it. Usually when you take medicine in liquid form it's about a teaspoon full. Not a glass full.

You could say do you think there is a heaven? If they say yes... say how do you get there? If they say just be good, say but Jesus said no one is good but He did say you must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God (John 3:3). Do you know what that means? If they say no, just explain what happened in the garden of Eden when God gave Adam and Eve all the beautiful delicious fruit trees but told them there is only one they can't eat otherwise they would die, be spiritually separated from God forever. Every person on earth is born without God's Spirit and are spiritually dead. So the only way our Holy God could have a relationship once again with His creation was to come to earth, send His Son Jesus, conceived by God's Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary. He had to become like one of us so he could overcome sin in every way. When Jesus went on that cross, He took the sins of the whole world, the Adam and Eve sin upon Himself and became our substitute. In the Old Testament they used to sacrifice unblemished Lambs for the sins of the people over and over. Jesus became our sacrificial Lamb that was slain once and for all, He covered our inherited sin from Adam and Eve. The moment you give your life to Jesus and believe what He did on the cross for you, you will be eternally saved and God's Holy Spirit will come to live inside you. This is what it means to be born again with God's Holy Spirit. You now will begin a relationship with our God of the Universe, Jesus and His Holy Spirit for all eternity.

One of the fruits of the Spirit is self control. Being drunk violates that. It's important that if you do drink, you are very conscious of your state of mind and if you feel you are getting close to losing that control to stop. Also, do not judge those who chose not to drink, just as those who don't shouldn't judge those who do. It really is on an individual basis. For one person, one shot turns into 20 very rapidly, another person on the other hand knows when to stop. For some people this is a point of contention and so if there is someone that believes it is a sin, I chose not to drink in front of them because the relationship is more important than the argument of whether it is or isn't a sin. Paul uses the example of eating meat in Romans 14:15 but the same principal applies here I think. At the end of the day, all commands hinge on 1) loving God and 2) loving your neighbor (Matthew 22:37-40). Those two are the main point of any given command. Really, every action, reaction and decision should go back to those two commandments.
