I drank almost every day Feb 1985 to June 2019 = 34 years. My evening drink became the highlight of my day and I didn’t think I could be happy without it. It bothered me that there are so many Bible verses about drunkards not inheriting the Kingdom of heaven...I went to bed every night in 2018 begging God to take away this craving so I could be able to have wine/gin in the house and not want to touch it. The preachers/believers I respect the most did/do not drink and urged others not to either(Billy Graham John MacArthur and many others) I wanted to be like that.... 16 June 2019 I went to bed alcohol free.... and haven’t drunk since. Still trusting God to help me every day...

I became a Christian 20 years ago and stopped drinking. But I went through a really bad divorce that included my wife becoming pregnant to another man while we had four children who I ended up with custody of, then I started to drink again every second weekend, then my dad passed away at 61 years old and I started to drink even more. Fast forward 10 years and I was heavily drinking every day, I brought the body into disrepute and sinned against the Lord sexually with a number of women and made a real mess of fatherhood and exampled a bad and sinful way of life to my children. One evening about 4 months ago I was watching sermons on KZbin while drunk and one evening I made a decision that I was going to make a stand for Jesus. The next day I woke up and realized that the Lord had delivered me from alcoholism and other sins. He litterly took them out of my being, I haven't looked at pornography or even had the urge and the need to drink is completely gone. If anyone is reading this and loves the Lord at heart but is a slave to sin, do not give up, believe in Him and believe He is faithful to deliver you. It's not by your might nor by your strength but it's by His Spirit you shall be saved! He is the one who does the work, you just need to believe and be willing to walk with Him in His ways!

I KNOW IT'S LONG, BUT YOU REALLY SHOULD READ THIS, Even though I was raised in a good holiness home and taught right, I stopped going to church and started mingling with the world at around 19, I started drinking just a little at first, just to fit in, I became an alcoholic, one night during a drunken stupor, I tried something called crank, it sobered me up and made me feel great, surely just doing a little bit here and there won't hurt me? The alcohol and crank eat a hole in my stomach, I spent over two weeks in erlanger hospital, they did emergency surgery on my stomach, called the family in because they wasn't sure I was going to make it, now I was liking how the demerol made me feel, when I was released, they gave me strong pain meds, I loved the way that made me feel better than anything else I had tried, Dad and Mom telling me, I should try not taking them, or at least cut back, and only take them when I REALLY needed them, but I had the perfect excuse right? I mean look at my stomach, I'm cut from my chest down below my belly, I continued to go back to the doctor to get refills, way after I was healed up, I practically had to beg for them, and lie to the doctor that I was still in pain, until he finally cut me off, so I went to the streets to find them, and paid extremely high prices, so now I'm an alcoholic and dope addict, My Dad came to me one day and prophesied to me, with big tears rolling down his face, he said son,I have a message for you, God told me to tell you, if you didn't straighten up, stop your wicked ways and get back in church, destruction is on your trail, and when it happens, it will be almost more than you can bare, I didn't listen, I knew it was true, because my Dad was a great man of God ( I had seen God work miracles through him before) it didn't happen right away, but when it did, It was almost more than I could bare, I lost everything I ever had, got in trouble with the law, and was looking at prison time, by this time, Dad and Mom had both passed away ( Dad died like 2 months after Mom died, married for 62 years) while I was in the drunk tank or holding cell, withdrawing, and begging God to save my soul and let me die, I meant it, ( couldn't kill myself, I already had tried, but the thought kept coming to me, if you pull the trigger, you're going to hell) so I went back to what I KNEW would work, I prayed like never before, I took awhile, it wasn't just a 2 or 3 minute prayer, but I didn't stop praying until God had mercy on me and heard my prayer, INSTANTLY, in that little jail cell, God saved me, the withdrawal was gone, sickness all gone, and for the first time in a couple years, I WANTED TO LIVE, I received another miracle, I didn't do one day in prison, I never had another craving for alcohol or drugs, that's been over 5 years ago, I'm still in church, I lead singing, I'm still shouting the victory, and so can you

So the case here was that the place where they were going was far so they would exchange their tithes which was mainly produce, into cash as they were Instructed in the scenario. Then purchase oxen, sheep, wine and strong drink. Strong drink and wine were mentioned in vs26 but the passage simply says that they must eat Before God After they purchased what was listed in 26. The reason why the very passage in vs26 simply says that they can "...eat..." and not "eat and drink" is simply because strong drink was mentioned. It was only used for offering see Numbers28:7, and all strong drink offerings were not drank but were to be poured down in the Holy Place As is indicated in Numbers 28:7. God always teaches us the spiritual with the physical. Alcohol is very dangerous to many humans. But some can drink without being drunk. But what is God teaching us? We read in Scripture to not be drunk with wine but be filled with the Holy Spirit. Alcohol is "physical" "spirits". "Spiritual" Spirit is the Holy Spirit. Instead of a BAC level, which is a blood alcohol content (physical meaning), we should be focused on a BHSC, which is Blood Holy Spirit Content. Look deep into the actual alcohol fermentation process, we have grape juice etc., we add yeast (although not necessary, yeast naturally floats in our air), the yeast eats the sugar and produces alcohol. Check out my Amazon book, the 7 Feasts of a Highly Effective God, in the book I show that the 7 Feasts from Leviticus 23 are actually the full Gospel Message. So during the first Spring Feasts; Passover, Unleavened Bread and First Fruits we have Unleavened Bread eaten, Bread without yeast, picture of Christ without yeast, without sin. BUT after the 49 Days of Weeks, Weeks being the 7th Feast, the time in which Jesus appeared alive to His followers after the Crucifixion, the very next Day was Day 50, Pentecost. At Pentecost we can now have yeast, why? Why is yeast now allowed? Because this yeast is a picture of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ conquered sin (Fall Feasts: Trumpets, Day of Atonement and Tabernacles) and death (Spring Feasts: Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits and Weeks) and then He sent us the Helper, which is the Holy Spirit. This is the full Gospel. After the Work of Christ, this "Yeast" puffs up, not with drunkenness, but with the Holy Spirit, Hallelujah!!!

I grew up believing alcohol to be a sin. I met my husband who grew up in a beautiful Christian family where moderate alcohol was enjoyed in Biblical way. We both tore the scriptures apart to find whatever was truth and side with that. It became clear that moderate alcohol wasn't only not a sin, but a blessing. After considering my personal nature to addiction I considered that I had temperament in other areas of my life, and felt God's blessing to partake as I read His Word. But before trying it I had to work through my thoughts about drunkenness. The world makes it sound like alcohol isn't any fun unless you get drunk, which of course forbidden by Scripture. My husband helped me understand that the truth is opposite. Drinking wine and it making the heart glad is the fun part, drinking too much isn't any fun at all. After years of partaking I agree with that. We see it as a blessing that must be in submission to God. That being said, our society doesn't support good principles in discipline. In my experience alcohol can only be part of my life with strict discipline. I've noticed a sort of discipline part of the Bible that doesn't seem to exist in most circles today. Approaching alcohol without discipline will lead to ruin. If I live thinking I'm immune to it, I'm being arrogant! That's why humble dependence on God has to go with the decision to drink.

@@m____w____6981 of course it’s not your fault, but it doesn’t help either. You also don’t want to be a contributing factor for someone falling into sin. Here’s just a quick example. Our church loves football. Every time our local team would play, a bunch of us would head to the pub because it was big enough to accommodate everyone. We would watch the game in the dinner area which is separate from the bar, order a meal, and head home once the game is finished. We had been doing this for years. We’ll one night one of the new converts ended up staying til 2 in the morning and got drunk. Was it our fault? No. Is he responsible for his own decisions? Yes. But we didn’t realise he couldn’t exercise the same disciplines as us, and we unintentionally were a contributing factor to him falling. We no longer watch football at the pub anymore.

I'm so tired of failing, but I never give up. Now I’m on the first day of not drinking anything again. Last time I lasted many moons. I hope this time it last forever. I have been dealing with if it’s ok to drink or not. I thank you for the hard work you have done with your Bible study. I’m one of those that make problems when I drink. So, when you said everything that you did about drinking too much, and that alcohol makes issues in your life, then you should never drink. hope that the Lord can strengthen me, so that my walk can be glorifying God. Trying to be Christian and not sin is the hardest thing I have ever tried. I used to think that Christians was weak and silly. Now I understand that they are the strongest people on the face of the earth. I wish I had a priest or pastor I could speak with, or a church, preferably both. Home in Norway the churches are destroyed. Not materialistic destroyed, but it’s a waste land of dead Church communities, most churches where I come from don’t even have a dedicated priest. The church doors are closed most of the time, else then when there is some kind of event. Lucifer has done grate work in Norway, destroying our Christian values, culture, and communities. These ministries that share there content online is a blessing. I’m just rambling on, if someone read this comment, God bless you. Thanks again for sharing these teachings. Be blessed in Jesus Christ almighty name. Amen. I hope I get saved one day.

Jesus is our only high priest and only mediator, under the new testament/covenant a priest is not a thing that exists, except in the sense that we are all priests spiritually. Catholicism or Orthodox or any denomination with a priest is in error in that area. That does suck about Norway but at least you have the internet... but I suspect there are still thousands of like-minded Bible believing Christians out there, maybe they're dispersed or hard to find, but they're there, just maybe not in your town I don't know. But I pray God will lead you fellowship there and even a good church. If one doesn't exist maybe it's even you who should change that.

@fiwarelli You can do this… but probably not without Jesus. I’m almost 17.5 mo sober from a 17yr long alcohol addiction and while I use and appreciate all the psychology and education about addiction I’ve gotten from treatment and addiction therapist ( check out put the shovel down’s channel) until I brought myself to Jesus and was willing to let him change me I couldn’t do it. This is a hard video to watch as an alcoholic because he actually does not address the heartbreak and prison of addiction with any real compassion at all. I’m kinda of surprised and disappointed. I like this guy but this video while informative lacked compassion for us. You actually cannot know before drinking if your mind and body will react in a way that makes you susceptible to addiction. People drink the same amount and different brain reactions. It’s not a fault issue, you didn’t knowingly run into this trap but Jesus can save you from this trap. Relapse is often part of addiction but it doesn’t have to be… I cling to that. If I relapse I will try again and I don’t live in condemnation because I’m in him now, I just have to really repent and turn towards him. In rehab God spoke to me for the first time. I begged and cried for him to rescue me from certain death and he told me “I will rescue you if you make yourself available to me” I took it to heart. I ran to church but first on KZbin and later in my neighborhood. I read the Bible and connect with other alcoholics and Christian’s and I actively go after what he may have for me. I am vigilant and avoid complacency by daily evaluations of myself. I don’t condemn myself, I let him redirect me. I read the AA book and participate in Celebrate Recovery (both are online so you could go) Nobody will be able to understand you like another alcoholic so find a way to connect. This is what I’ve done so far and it’s working. If you ask Jesus to forgive you and live for him your sin and shame are no more and you can learn what your real identity is according to him. I promise you it’s incredibly amazing. Don’t give up and don’t let anyone shame you or tell you freedom from this isn’t possible. Jesus can rescue you too!!!! 🎉

Vær sterk i Herren! All velsignelse til deg, hilsen en ung broder fra Bergen :))

I completely understand your point. My family's from Belgium. Belgians, same as Germans, don't drink much water. It's been part of our customs to enjoy a glass of wine or beer with a meal. I grew up in a very loving home. No one in our family became and alcoholic, because we were taught to enjoy things in moderation and with self-control. When I became a Christian, I noticed that our customs were misunderstood by other Christians here in America. But, I know that it has to do with the fact that, like Pastor Mike said, people have been taught to believe that the Bible condemns anything that's alcoholic/fermented, when in fact it is the abuse of it which is condemned by the Scriptures.

I was led by the Lord to quit drinking as a new believer at age 21, I seemed to fail badly at social drinking my 1st year as a believer. Often waking up the next morning realizing I had about 3-6 drinks more than I intended to and felt real badly about it. It was hard to let go of it as drinking was very ingrained in my Irish American upbringing , but I felt a strong leading from the Lord at the time. Recently, 35 yrs later, I've thought about trying to social drink again and even prayed about it, figuring I'm a bit older and maybe can handle it. One day it just dawned on me that He told me to quit drinking and hasn't said to go back to it. I take comfort in the scripture that says to not be drunk with wine, but to be filled with the Spirit. So folks like me have something from God to take that place, and to ask Him to fill me with His Spirit often. Kudos to those that can handle a drink in Christ (Im probably a little jealous ), those folks can probably take it or leave it. No need to be legalistic about it on either end, we have freedom in Christ. But I do suggest that drinkers examine themselves and watch what fruit it bears out. I suggest dropping it if it seems that temptations increase while drinking or you find yourself regretting anything you've said or done the night before, or if you often find your thoughts too obsessed with your next drink or social events coming up. I met 2 old Christians a few years back, one would give testimony about God delivering him from booze and even had a tape about him aired on the radio through Moody broadcasting , the other taught men for many years how to get and stay sober in a Christian rehab and was now elderly and retired. Both, as old men, got back into drinking as seniors. One would have the largest bottle of wine I've ever seen by his chair and sip all day long, stressing that it was medicine for him (pure nonsense) the other would talk non stop about where his daughter and he would be going for dinner the coming weekend. Not about the meal but about what he would drink. Totally obsessed and unaware. They were both patients of mine at the time (I'm a home health nurse) and I knew it was not a coincidence . I took it as a warning at the time(ten years ago), now I need to heed it .A book by Jack Deere(biography) called Even in our Darkness seemed to highlight how it played a large role in devastating his family. Very honest book and he doesn't knock alcohol. We have the God given freedom for it, but I think we need to examine ourselves very honestly also , alcoholism can be a very subtle, clever snake

The reason why they would purchase strong drink for offering and tithe is because unfermented wine wasn't usually readily available like how fermented wine was.

It was unfermented wine which is GRAPE JUICE that Jesus Christ our Lord made at the wedding at Cana in Galilee. Drinking alcohol,,,beers..liqour is sin before God. Drinking and drunkenness both sins because they defile the temple of God which is our bodies (1 Corinth 3 v 16-17) Just like smoking...doing drugs...are also sins before God because they DEFILE HIS TEMPLE which are our bodies. Yet God shows us how connected we truly are, & in all sorts of ways. I did experience the same conviction, about 10 yrs ago~ actually, for about 12 yrs prior to that as well. So it had been bothering my spirit off & on for a long time. I did choose to ask God for help, and eventually, I was delivered/stopped/no longer enjoyed the escape, etc. I don't know why it took that long, & I try not to dwell on that. I'm sure grateful to be free from the habit, & it has led me ever further into focusing on what goes into my body, my mind~ even who or what is in my life in any way. In fact, my life is so peaceful & free- it's awesome. Again, I'm pretty sure it's not something I was going to do without the Lord. 🙋Sammy in AZ

Shawn, I had always been a social drinker, all my life, and when I turned 40 years old I bought a motorcycle and started hanging out at biker clubs and really started getting in to drinking then. A lot of things happened in my life during that and I started drinking vodka every day from the time I got up in the morning until I went to bed at night and I done this for 6 years straight. Needless to say my body finally broke down and I had a heart attack. This didn't stop me though, I continued for about another 6 months after that and then one night, while drinking, I decided to open the Bible and read like you did. I got to the gospel of John where so many of the Jewish people did not believe who Jesus Christ was and I broke down and called out to my Lord Jesus Christ and repented and told Him I believe in Him and I needed Him to take over my life and save me from me. That very night the Holy Spirit entered me and I have not ever even thought of another drink. @@hwnboy925 By God's grace it's possible, and God says He opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble... the key, therefore, is humility to the King. When you're willing to say, "Whatever you tell me to do from now on, I'll do it, no matter the personal costs or consequences and no matter who agrees (including people you respect)." Then, you start readimg your Bible like your life depends on it and you pray and ask God for help. He says "without Me, you can do nothing." And through that commitment and continuing to trust in God and obey Him, you will be given the grace of God whereby you may stand. But then you'll get excited about your success and you'll forget your own weakness and God's necessary help, and you'll start to drift away... then, when you fall, which you will, you repent and confess your sin and believe God's promise in 1 John 1:9. But again, that requires humility... and the whole journey comes down to this: Did you learn to humble yourself to God and to keep humbling yourself to God? That humility is required when you feel strong and it's required when you feel weak. You'll always be a sinner and a failure, but you don't have to always sin. But overcoming only comes by God's grace and truth which subsists in Jesus Christ.

I grew up in a German church where beer was what you had with meals. At our church picnics and dinner there was beer. I don’t remember anyone ever being drunk. It’s just the way it was. So I grew up viewing beer and wine as not sinful in and of itself, but never something that you set out to get drunk with.

Monks were the ones who created beer so that makes sense. I believe having a beer or wine with a meal or just to relax after a long day is similiar to Christians who drink coffee for the effects of the caffeine. Certainly not a sin or a heaven or hell issue.

Exactly. It wasn't my church that did it but the way my parents raised me. Beer and wine are just like soda and coffee. They are simply beverages that are to be consumed in moderation.

I suffered from a chronic digestive problem for many years. As I prayed about it, the Lord kept bringing me back to 1 Timothy 5:23 "No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments." I resisted this for years, because I had been brought up to believe that Christians shouldn't drink alcohol. A few months ago, I decided to follow Paul's advice and started drinking a glass of wine with my evening meal. Within a few days, the digestive problem was cured. I could barely believe it. So, from a practical viewpoint, there can be health benefits with wine. I am 64 years old and I have never been drunk in my life - even in my youth I hardly ever touched alcohol. I never drink more than a glass of wine - in fact, I only fill the glass half way. But it's enough for the health benefits.

Best verse you brought up that no pastors ever bring up: "You may spend the money for anything that you desire, for oxen or for sheep or for wine or for strong drink or for anything that you desire, and you shall eat it there before Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household. Deuteronomy 14:26". Saying don't drink, is like saying "don't have sex ever". Drunkeness is a sin through the whole Bible, but consuming wine or strong drink is not. Just as sexual immorality is a sin, but sex inside of marriage is God's gift. Paul says to not make rules on what we eat or drink, liberty in Christ, and we are actually supposed to watch out for those that do. Jesus is Lord over my life and I am thankful that I'm a bigger guy and getting drunk is almost impossible. We are not to live a life of drunkiness, as we all know that leads to ruin and the Word confirms this too. Just as we are not live a life of sexual sin and adultery, that to is ruinous. But both wine/strong drink and sex inside of marriage are great gifts from God for us to enjoy before Him. God is not a legalistic Baptist pastor holding a KJV bible waiting to strike you with it if you drink an IPA craft beer or a glass of fine bourbon or pino. In fact God is the opposite, and wants you to enjoy these things in moderation and with self control. So...cheers brothers and sisters in Christ. :)

Dj Hudgins, I believe it’s more like an allergic reaction than self control/will power. A friend of mine who struggles with alcoholism said a doctor told him it’s more like a “reaction” to alcohol. Everybody’s system reacts to alcohol in an individual way just like people react to poison ivy in a different way. Some people do not break out in an itchy rash when they touch poison ivy yet others will break out in an extremely itchy rash. The analogy of “poison ivy” to “alcohol” is what a doctor stated: if you get that itchy rash you know you’re not supposed to scratch the rash but you do and that reaction causes you to want to scratch it more. Even if the scratching draws blood you know to stop scratching but sometimes you don’t because you feel relief of the itching while you’re scratching. So when an alcoholic takes a drink and can’t stop drinking (scratching) you should refrain from drinking all together because you know you have an “allergic” reaction to alcohol and it will ruin your life and perhaps the lives of those around you because of the consequences from drinking too much. God bless you. We all struggle, just in different ways and we should strive to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. Stay in prayer over this. God loves you dearly!
