For the people who are blasting this review please keep in mind that all one is trying to do in the event of a break-in is buy time. Time/lights/alarms discourage most burglars to the point that they lose interest and move on. The back door of my place was kicked in back in February and since then I have replaced the door and reinforced it with 3" screws. I also added longer striker plates( not as long as these door devils, though they would be an awesome upgrade) and security doors with 3 point locking systems not to mention the home alarm. Some say its's overkill, I say there's no such thing when it comes to protecting myself, my loved ones, and/or my shit!

That build-in was not secured to the wall, so the structure's looseness was acting as a big spring buffer, which robbed a lot of the force out of your kicks. Using the longer screws to hold the door frame hardware in is a really big deal, +1 for the 3" screws to get the plate bolted all the way to the stud that the doorframe is attached to, not just the doorframe itself.

Okay fair enough but if you DID HAVE it all secured in properly,just how many times do you think you could kick that door full tilt? Have you ever kicked a door in? You'd just wind up with fucked up feet or knees. The key test in this video was the last non reinforced kick that split the frame. Another idea though would be to reverse the door so it opens outwards.I did that once before and had the feds kicking my front door for 15 minutes till eventually I had to let them in! lol

One discreet but fashionable upgrade for interior doors is to simply replace them with solid core doors and common privacy locks. That allows for a layered defense where the interior doors look normal, but are in fact a real barrier. Solid core doors between the "public" and "residential" areas of a larger house can be put in without it looking like a "panic room" but can easily buy enough time to get to weapons or call for help, not to mention locking up higher security parts of the home while you are gone but leaving other areas open to various service providers like pet care, cleaners and part time household staff.

I've never questioned the strength and capability of the Door Devil, it's rock solid. What I was worried about, and later pleasantly surprised to find out, was how forgiving the design is. In my area (as in most in North Texas) one's foundation will shift throughout the year and could cause issues with doors closing properly. This has jot been the case in my situation with the Door Devil. There is plenty of room to accommodate this. We are in the process of having 30 piers installed to repair the foundation issues of our home, and the only doors that do not give us issues are the ones with the Door Devil insatalled. Your mileage may vary, but I'm a firm believer in their strength and durability.

Great video, I am impressed at the strength of the system, however..... Installing a steel gate that opens out is a good deterrent lag that baby to the studs and you will need a truck and cable to get in through the front door, this will buy you time to react! Unfortunately, if someone wants to get in they will, probably through a window not a door. It is a good product to use in conjunction with others however the structural nature of the "wood door" lends itself to being easily broken through especially if the person has a ram, shotgun or other breaching device and does not come in through a window, slider or french door.

Jesse Crandle the fact that it is BETTER does not prove that it is Doorkicker proof. you are arguing that because it stood up better that it can do what they claim but then you defend them when they fail to prove it in the video but instead using a "simulation" that supports their side of the argument rather than putting it in a simulator where it was at the least advantage and letting it prove itself on its own. they had a CONCRETE doorway they they could have equipped with this to prove its merit but they chose to use fiberply and 2x4 construction. TLDR- as a certified facilities maintenance tech i understand door code; i would not merit this as a satisfactory test of the door devils claims I expect the company to prove its potential before i will trust it to defend three quarters of a million dollars in equipment.

Yes the structure was wobbly, but either way it looks like the door would have lasted a dozen or more kicks compared to a "unprotected" one. For the amount of time needed to install and the cost I say it is worth it. They were not promising ultimate 100% protection. I would possibly buy it (but I think I would still rather just get a brand new, real security door).

Double key deadlock, Door Devil Plate, longer screws on hinge screws & kick plate and our steel door is solid. Outside steel face indicates that someone did try to kick (probably a mule kick or two) the door open. Neighbors did have an entry and burglary. We did not. Also have a visible bar on rear sliding door base that prevents someone from sliding it open. ADT Security sign is in front of entry area. When we travel, interior lights are on timers & a talk radio station is on & loud enough for someone outside to hopefully think someone may be home. Of course any window or door with glass can be penetrated. House and yard are always well lit and exposed. No bushes for a bad guy to hide. Next step are area cameras. Hope bad guys don’t make it through the door if we are home. Gunshots inside a house are loud!

Is it the thin metal strip that makes the door harder to kick in or the 3 inch screws? I realize wood is easy to splinter but if you kick the door, how would the metal strip help hold the door in place? Dumb question, yes I know.
@haroldwilson85448 жыл бұрын
The deadbolt is stuck into the wooden jamb. The long metal plate "catches" the deadbolt as you kick it (on the edge of the hole through the plate which the deadbolt is passing through). Now the edge of the metal plate is pushing against your kick. Because it's long, and because you installed 6 (I think) long screws, the metal plate is distributing the load across the screws and into whatever they are screwed through. Normally, there is a pair of 2x4 studs doubled around the opening of your door, so the screws are distributing the kick into the doubled 2x4 studs.
@tyneetikk20768 жыл бұрын

My guess is, they'll have an axe or other tool and just break right in. They don't muck around. They're there for the long haul, so there's no real limit to what they can bring to get in. A thief can't logistically bring an axe or jaws of life, use it, get in, and haul stuff away unless they're willing to leave their tool or carry less stuff. And why would they bother? If they can't get in easily, there's no reason to keep trying. You increase your chances of being spotted and getting caught.

Kicks were half capacity compared to the intruders kicking my door (the reason I'm watching this.) However, I saw how easy it was to kick in the door. You've assured me that shoving myself against the door in a MAJOR attempt to bolt my door as the intruder attempted to break in was a VERY good move on my part yesterday. It's probably the only reason I won - a plain old bolt.

Consider this: Sliding glass doors are weak in the area of the rail system at the bottom. Unless the rail is made with strong steel and has a protective wall on the outside, a burglar can put a crowbar or even a big screwdriver under the door and lift it up off the rail. Then, the door can be pulled out and the burglar is in. So what I recommend is what I use, namely a heavy chain loop that fits around the inside door handle. The chain loop is connected with a very heavy duty clip to a very strong eye screw that is deep into the 2 x 4 next to the door frame. The clip makes it very easy and safe to attach the loop to the door and take it off. New sliding glass doors have a deep rail system at the bottom of the door which makes using a crowbar or big screwdriver difficult. Also, the glass is the kind used in windows in banks---unbreakable. Yes, they are not cheap. You will find them for around $900 to $1,000, but they give you a huge difference in security. The original sliding glass door on my home, built in 1979, was weak and easily jacked-up with a crowbar. But I installed the chain loop and then someone tried to jack-up the door. They did jack it up, but the chain loop only allowed the door to move a little and it also made it impossible to pull the door out. You can also place a chain across a door, on the inside, use the eye screw and loop system and really secure the door. Put a heavy eye screw into the 2 x 4 on each side of the door, attach the chain with a loop used for towing chains on the side where the door opens and put the clip that opens and closes on the hinge side. That makes it impossible for someone to reach the clip on the hinge side. Obviously, you can't use the chain on every door UNLESS you are home. I have the door from the kitchen into the garage with a chain, but that's the only one not connected when I'm leaving. That door has a magnetic switch which causes my security system to call my cellphone IF that door is opened when I am away. I also highly recommend motion detectors in the home and have them call your cellphone when they detect an intruder. If you have pets, you can't have them where they will set off the alarm. Put the motion detector aimed high enough so that a dog or cat won't activate it. AND, place it so a burglar won't see it. There are ways to do that.

Don’t you use steel catch plates for mortice bolts in the US? In the UK all mortice locks come with a 16 or 14g catch plate, which normally has a formed steel dust box on its rear side. Even with one of those installed, the door case will normally split out feom a good kick. A 6” steel plate is all that is required to prevent that vulnerability. bolted hinges are a good hinge side upgrade, as is a steel plate within or on the face of the door at kick height. I’m surprised no-one has invented a heavily sprung face plate, which acts as a shock absorber.

But the kicks moved the wall. It is taking the stress. I am not saying it won't work but it needs to be tested right

The door looks stronger than the wall it's installed into!

This looks like a great way to thwart theives, as long as you layer your security by combining this with good locks & an alarm or facsimile there of...LOL But, again just as you said, we can only slow down determined, un-wanted, visitors....

You don't lock your front door?

With the entire structure moving all about, the energy from the kicks isn't going directly into the door, it's moving around the door into all the wood structure moving around.

Reinforcing a door frame is a ok idea but windows are the real weak point and easy entry.so Is between studs no matter what you do if some one wants in they will find a way.

Ellwoodbonsai Put bars over the windows then, problem solved.
@BizDiva9 жыл бұрын
+Ellwoodbonsai Most forced entries are performed precisely as shown in the video. Broken windows require repeated effort and noise, which attracts attention. I don't know that this solution in this video is the one to go with, but the door is the primary point of entry in home break-ins, according to law enforcement.
@RickFlyFish9 жыл бұрын
+Ellwoodbonsai I think the idea is, if they break the window it'll be louder or attract more attention than a single kick to a door which sounds more like dropping a piece of wood on concrete. Even bars on the window's can be defeated with portable cutting torch which doesn't make much noise

Ellwoodbonsai that being said. Believe it or not over here, one of the neighborhood dipshits decided he had to test my personal security screws, additional metal fabrication s nothing great just some recycled scraps, in the video we see him then him with a shovel then some other implement s from around my yard ... Took the fucker 30+ minutes to final break there frames to illegaly access my place. There kicker was you can see and hear little pieces of glass falling to the floor from the pre broken windows right beside three door he'd been kicking in.. hey dipshits. Uh broken windows? Either broken or not you're right... These bullet catchers will get in to begin their final moments...I wasn't at home but they guy who he had rolled up in a carpet and nearly set on fire on my front porch told me when I got home

I just keep my couch against the front door. The other entrances open outward.

Interesting that this product is called door devil. But I remember buying this product under the name of Prime Line strike plate 11026 Jamb reinforcing and repair kit.
@wilcoxtactical37164 жыл бұрын
This is a good starting point but doesn't help spreading the door jam. Police and fire generally use a door ham spreader which just pulls the deadbolt out of the wall hole. The hinge side is still weak. The hinges should be replaced with security hinges that have pins and should be installed with long 4" screws. The jam should be filled in with hardwood all the way around. Most doors are installed with shims that help level and plumb the door but doesn't add any level of security to the door. Deadbolrs should be high quality and have a hammerhead deadbolt that locks into the hole. The gap along the door should be fixed to prevent wires from being pushed under the door and helps to stop the deadbolt from being unlocked from the inside. There are multiple ways to reinforce a door and this product just barely addresses one of them but does nothing to address more advanced means of breaching a door and especially not the ones going to be used by LE when they decide to confiscate guns.
@BroncoSteven698 жыл бұрын
This doesn't address the fact that a lot of guys walk up with a small jack and simply jack the jamb sideways in about 15 seconds and simply push the door open. Then they unlock the deadbolt and lock the door on the way out. People don't notice a kicked in door when they walk or drive by. You have to frame the house with braces to combat this, which we do, and we always install the strikes and hinges with two hardened 3.5" screws each. Come kick my door open with one kick. I will have a cane ready for your sore ankles.

It should be standard building code to have stronger and thicker door frames and studs to front and back doors.

I think this is a good thing to have if you live in a bad town or neighborhood but one thing that could be bad is if your house catches on fire and your trapped inside firefighters can't reach you fast enough.

I gotta get these for my daughter's double wide trailer. I know how flimsy those things are built, and she sleeps with a double barrel 12 gauge by the bed. I'm getting it for the intruders sake.

I would also install this on my bedroom door. I installed a steel 6 panel door on my bedroom. My bedroom is my safe room inside my house.
