For those looking to beef up security but without buying this. Replace all screws to your hinges AND door plate, with at least 3 inch screws. Also you can add in a heavy duty door stopper/ wedge for bottom of the door. Replacing the screws alone will help substantially. Tip.. Predrill the holes into the wood before screwing in the screws so the wood won't split, and you can also lube your screw threads with soap or either liquid soap so the threads won't strip. If you decide to use something like a under the door handle security bar, replace the locking pin it comes with, with a bolt instead. Once you find the correct hight and angle for that specific door, use a drill and drill a two holes for a bolt to go thru the bar, just like the original locking pin would have. Then Use nuts on the bolt to secure it into place once you've found correct hole placement for the bolt your replacing the locking pin with.. Just some ideas and tips!

If the home has a sliding glass door, be sure you place 3M Shatterguard on it. Most hit with a crowbar and the glass collapses but with Shattergard it remains a barrier. Cover windows too. To deter thieves away from windows, plant Crown of Thorns shrubs under each window. They have 3 inch thorns that will gather DNA should a burglar tries entry.

The purpose is to beef a door up to where the majority of break-ins will be thwarted or at least delayed, to the point where the time and noises will dissuade further attempts by criminals interested in a quick, low-risk score. They get jumpy spending more than a couple minutes to gain access when time increases the chance of being seen or heard. They aren't picking bank vaults. SWAT battering rams are going to take down most every sort of residential entrance, but neighbors a block away will hear it. If burglars try their stock bag of half a dozen tricks without success, they're moving on, not persisting for the thrill of the challenge. More often than not, "good enough" need be barely better than "average."

I have three security doors for the exterior doors of the house, kicking them in is not an option, they swing out and are stout doors to begin with. The security doors are mounted to the solid door frames via 12 non reversible screws per door along both sides, so prying will take longer than the criminal wishes to spend before police arrive. I installed 11 inch lock reinforcement plates for each door and replaced every screw on the hinges and lock plates with 3 inch screws, this was prior to installing the security doors. The windows have the popularly known hurricane/storm shutters that roll up into a box above the windows, this totally secures each window. I have motion sensored lights at all three doors that are the replacement for the standard porch light, then four motion sensored flood lights front and back to light up the exterior of the house. There is zero vegetation, just beautiful lawns around the house which denies an intruder a hiding area. The police have been over and love how the house is set up, no hiding spots at all.

I live alone in a rural area of the Navajo reservation my door was kicked in about two months ago. Luckily my carpenter tools or my AR-15 wasn't stolen. Maybe when forced of the kick made something fall off the shelf or something to cause the burglar to rethink about what risking his life. Hence I have two signs that indicates that I have the owner of the house is armed and to think twice if they intend to break in. So eventually I kinda secured my front door. My doorjamb was broken, so I repaired the doorjamb and put a metal stud flat strap behind the door jamb and drill holes for the deadbolt which I felt would keep my doorjamb intact, also I used 3 inch & 4 inch screws to strengthen the door jamb. So a month later I put up a security door. But I need to buy another one for my backdoor. With our country facing inflation prices the security doors are becoming more pricey. So it is my goal to reinforce my rear door to make my door more secure and it's true of how a burglar knows the weakness of door jambs and doorknobs. Door hinges are weak too. After coming across this product on KZbin I believe it will secure my back door when I'm out of town shopping or at work. I'm grateful that you have this product because I'm thinking about purchasing a kit. Home owners ought to watch your video so they be aware of how easy it is for burglars to kick in a typical door. Burglars know how easy it is to kick in a door, which are held by small screws.

@kylecaraway86624 жыл бұрын
This can be solved without a 60-70 dollar item. It's called 3 inch screws to attach all you metal components. Once you have the door attached directly to the framing you won't have to worry about the door frame breaking.
@bms91443 жыл бұрын
I think the big benefit of the shield part of the kit is that it spreads the force to a much larger area. If the wood shatters behind two three inch screws in a standard strike plate, I suspect the next blow will bend the screws enough to get the door open. I would like to see a test though.
@kylecaraway86623 жыл бұрын
@@bms9144 the plate doesn't do anything the frame itself can't. This kit is so expensive that you could just get a door brace instead. The ones that get put under the door handle and their is no way they are getting through then without breaking the door to pieces. And trust me your not kicking in 8 three inch framing screws out of the frame itself.
@bms91443 жыл бұрын
@@kylecaraway8662 Kyle, I would love to see it tested. As you know, even with the long screws, the standard strike plate isn't directly screwed into the frame of the structure, because it has the soft wood of the door frame, and the gap/shims in between. Three screws bunched in a 2.5" area, with some soft wood and the cavity for the bolt. The screws are relatively long and thin, and anchored very well on the structure frame end. I envision flex, failure of the door frame at the small strike plate, and bending of the screws as very possible on a second or third impact. You might be right, however, I have not tested it. I suspect the Armor Concepts guy has, which is why he came up with the 48" strike plates, but I am speculating based on what he said in the video. As far as the price goes, everyone has to decide if $80+ per door is worth it. My personal feeling is that it is money better spent than on a camera system that the police will watch with interest but ultimately do nothing with unless someone is dead. Alarm systems let you know your stuff got taken for $20 - $30 per month, but won't prevent it. I have seen some nice videos of three minute burglaries with alarms going off. As for door braces, they only function when someone is home, you can't wedge the door from the inside when you are away. I worry much more about break ins when I am away.

I've never seen a home door that's more secure than this, although me thinking like a thief, knowing the owners aren't home and me causing all that racket, I would try the wall beside the door, which looks much less secure. Great product though. Side note. I would love to have these implemented into apartment complexes. I only say this because I got approval a couple weeks ago to kick my own door in due to malfunction of the electronic key device. First kick by the deadbolt and I was in, not only was that enough to open the door, but it was enough to break the door stop on the base board and punch a hole into the drywall inside my home.

I guess if you want your home as secure as possible, you need to keep several hundred dollars on hold in case you need to hire someone to cut through your door and then replace it. If you're going to do this with your door, you might as well put high impact windows in and line your outer wall panels with something that makes them much harder to brake or cut. In a residential home place you bar between the jamb plate and the door horizontal have your co entry guy drive your tool deep then rotate your bar vertical it will force the door away and therefore the deadbolt out of the device or at leased far enough for the cheap deadbolt to be bent out of the way at this point drive throught the door should only take a couple blows.
@JAllen013 жыл бұрын
The reasons its easy for an entry team is you employ tools an tactics beyond the design and you don't have to conceal your actions at all. The device stops the one kick very little sound very little outside evidence type entry the a criminal would prefer. during the day when meny robberies take place the small amount of indistinct noise caused by a door kick is likely to go unnoticed it happens so fast so we want to stop that. Doors in America are worse than windows in keeping people out of your home who mean to do you harm. The window makes a very distinct noise and leaves outward evidence tipping off victims and neigbors. If i break the standard door i can step inside and wedge it closed and now i have a lot more time than if i broke a window so long as the one blow wasnt heard or recognized

It takes a lot more than this to make a door really secure. I won't go into it all here but if they didn't shim the frame securely at the strike area (which they usually don't) then you're in with a cheap crowbar in a few seconds and much more quietly too. This overpriced gadget isn't necessary if you know what you're doing when you install the door frame and strike. If they're not in after 15-20 seconds they'll go for a window instead.

Commercial doors always panic out as a fire safety feature.

I used to be a bad boy until I got caught and I always went through a back window because people almost always leave a window unlocked. It's insane to see how many people do this. People still do the hidden key method too.

That's why I keep a Smith & Wesson handcuff key in my secret compartment in the back of all my jeans. Also you type well with handcuffs on behind your back...impressive!

Never kick the knob/lock side. Always kick the hinge side. Better still, 12ga. shotgun.

Why does a home security product only get a 11 min video, but coffee snobbery gets a 30 minute #geartasting video? Seems backwards to the purpose of the series and website in my opinion.

There's always something to bitch about isn't there? :P This video is short and to the point, doesn't need 30 minutes to explain and demonstrate. As for how anybody can talk about, or listen to coffee talks exceeding 5 minutes is beyond me.

The Sick Horse Ranch I wouldn't have minded seeing a longer video for this though. Maybe a locked door without the product, and then one with it. Maybe a comparison to the door devil as well

As far as a door without this or the door devil, surprise, it breaks.

Hooligan tool + mini sledge would make light work of the door. Would be in about 6 seconds.

FD7FF I've fucked up many safes and I gotta say most of them have the same weakness. A lot of them are designed to be gotten into after a fire and fuck me cause all you need is a lighter and fuckin pliers get into one..
