This relationship is based on faith, not only desires. It's a commitment to refrain from the desire which goes against your faith. Both people know that when entering the marriage and the faith itself is kind of a guarantee. E.g. my faith prohibits ending my own life, so it's a taboo and you don't fantasize about that because you know the consequences of such a deed, although you might not sometimes see another way out, and still you know it's a taboo. Either your faith is worth it to you or it is not. Of course, a very serious decision to be made before starting something as serious as a marriage. It should not be merely to hide your orientation, you wouldn't be committed enough.

These situations are so complicated and difficult. This can be a serious issue. I come from a part of the world where being openly gay is still not easy, especially not for men, and especially if they are the only son in the family. Lots of men struggle so much even to just acknowledge and accept themselves that they might be gay, let alone forming a relationship with another man without hiding it from everyone. It's so sad, why can't we just let people love who they love? It doesn't affect straight people in any way! Lots of gay men try to force themselves to be straight and date women, which causes a lot of collateral damage. I fell in love with a gay man twice, once when i was 18, and once when i was 29. In both cases I did suspect they might be gay, but they openly pursued me, and I had no proof. Both situations ended very badly, with both sides being hurt. I felt confused, manipulated, like something was wrong with me and like my view of the situation was not real or valid. I wouldn't wish that situation upon anyone. Both of those men were wonderful people, and we could have had beautiful friendships, if they weren't forced by social norms to pretend they were straight, and if they could've been honest with themselves and with me. The first guy went into severe depression for 3 years after our relationship, until he was finally able to accept that he's gay and find love with a man. The second guy still doesn't admit that he's gay, although it's a public secret that his best friend is actually his partner. So much emotional pain and trauma caused by unacceptance of gay people, it's deeply unfair and sad. If you can't be open-minded enough to just leave gay people alone for their sake, then at least do it for your own sake - how would you feel if you or someone you care for ends up in a relationship like that, simply because of stupid social stigma? Let people love who they love. It's not your business.

If sex is so important to you that you are willing to sacrifice a family over a great sexual experience, then that is an individual choice. I just think some people feel there are things in life MORE IMPORTANT that sexual gratification. Seems like this mixed-orientation couple have chosen other aspects of a relationship to focus on. People in this comment section act like sex is the most important thing in a person's life but I am sure many people have "settled" on partners where the sex is not great but the relationship is good. Do you leave someone just because the sex is not great (I mean maybe you do, again individual choice)? Some people choose the other aspects of relationships that satisfy them over sexual satisfaction. Once you reach a certain age you realize sex isn't that important, it is nice when sex and love and marriage all line up, but I have very rarely seen ANY couple who remain in LUST with each other after years of marriage.

There are millions of people who are in arranged marriages as part of their culture and yet live a happy & fulfilled married life while there are others who choose their partner and live an unfulfilled married life. There are also people who have a happy open marriage which works for them. Bottomline is People are just complicated! We are in no position to judge people and their relationships. None of us are arbiters of the “best” or “happy” marriages. I think Blaine and Lindsay are an ideal couple. This is definitely complicated. I read a story about a gay man falling for a woman. He’s still attracted to men and does not have attraction for other women. In the story the character tries to understand his feelings by getting to know her as a friend while also dating men he eventually realized the joy attraction and happiness he feels when he’s with her and also felt jealousy when she’s with other men. At first he thought he was jealous because other men was attracted to her but realized how he hated them touching her and had a point where he thought he wants to be the only one she hugs, hold hands with, kiss etc. That’s when he realized he fell for this girl. For him it didn’t matter what the gender was but it’s the person that he fell for. The story goes on with him trying to attract his future wife while she only saw him as her gay best friend. He sort of uses that to his advantage to get close to her while also seducing her with his charm. I can’t remember the name but it’s really funny since it talks about him doing things like coming out of the bathroom wet with just a towel wrapped around his waist and asking her to dry his hair and shes just like alright sit down without a reaction which disappointed him.

I know the subject matter of this video is slightly different because of the religion aspect, but you have to remember that some people make this choice freely. Two years ago one of my best friends, who is not religious at all, married her best friend, a gay man. They are soulmates in an utterly committed and loving platonic relationship. Their marriage is sexually open (because they are not really a couple) but they live together and care for each other in every way. It works for them and though they face judgement, they're genuinely one of the sweetest and most affectionate pairs I've ever seen. I agree that there's something messy about relationships like the one in the video- although, hey! free choices- but there are people in the comments here saying such a mixed-orientation could "never work". This is simply not true. If a relationship is truly loving, whoever it involves, then it can work.
@Dellennickolis954 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry that sounds like friendship with extra steps. kinda like they just settled because they couldn’t find relationships on their own. Platonic relationships are just friendships . THAT said, I should've added, I need to clue you in on something critical. No matter what legislative branch of government responsible for making up laws on the go to accommodate for a broader public appeal tells you, two men or two women getting married to each other DOESN'T count as an actual marriage. We have foreign countries' governments even today making up new rules that now say, "It's totally okay" even though it wasn't before, all just to keep the people it represents happy. This couple has greater commitment to their church and its cultural and social pressures than they do to themselves or each other. They both exercise a severe level of self-deception and have gaslit themselves into a reality that is distorted and severed from who they truly are. Sex isn’t everything in a relationship. But, it sure is a barometer. Both partners are allowed to want to feel desired by the other. We should feel fully connected to our special person through all means available to us in this life: Mentally, amicably, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and yes, even sexually. How unsettling that this wife does not acknowledge how unequal this relationship is. According to his religious beliefs, she’s his ticket into heaven. He’s willing to allow her to go this entire life questioning his desire for her, all under the duress that it’s a necessary and eternal sacrifice to be made in this life. God wants his children to experience joy. Is this truly their joy? Or, have they backed themselves into a mindset and commitment they feel powerless to escape? It’s sad that this couple has committed to a partnership of consolation, rather than one of passionate conviction, transparency, and authenticity. I think it’s commendable they value marrying your best friend, but we are creatures capable of deeper physical love & connection, worthy of so much more joy than this.

This isn’t anyone’s business, and not an outsider’s place to judge. Not everyone values sexual behavior and preferences as priority in a marriage or relationship. If it is most important to these people to have a traditional heterosexual marriage and a conventional family, while respecting their morals, that’s their prerogative. No one is under duress here, as they are consenting adults who have every right and ability to choose whom they marry. No outsider is in a position to assume the they can’t have a happy and fulfilling relationship. I’m sure it has its own challenges, but arranged marriages existed for centuries, when marriage wasn’t really a choice and was necessary for survival and heirship, as it was the only way people could have children. This obviously included gay people, and yet people most often still managed to find happiness and even love with each other eventually. It all comes down to personal choice and priorities.

@DesigNatedAudio3 жыл бұрын
@@sexykitten0814 Everything you said only further supports my argument. Self-deception is the primary energy in this relationship. You have just equated this marriage to the antiquated arranged marriages of the past. Aren’t we way past that in our day? Just because something was done in the past doesn’t give it automatic acceptance to be done in the present. We should evolve and move beyond our mistakes and shortcomings in relationships. Not cling to tradition as a way to justify the poor decisions made in the present. The determination to ignore the red flags this marriage scenario presents is symptomatic of your own willingness to self-deceive, yet you will wear that mindset like a badge of honor as if your support for their privacy and intimate decisions is the “woke” thing to do. When truly, it couldn’t be more perpetuating of the unhealthy and deceitful relationships that exist among the religious communities these people exist.
@sexykitten08143 жыл бұрын
@@DesigNatedAudio What I said does not validate your argument at all. On the contrary, it shows your bias to your own way of thinking, namely in that you assume that people you don’t even know, must be self deceptive, and unhappy, since they value sex and marriage/relationships differently than you do. Those antiquated arranged marriages of the past are not only outdated in today’s world because they were based on survival, practically, and political association, but also, because people today, unlike then, have options unavailable to people of the world long ago, and therefore, now have every right to exercise choice. These are competent, consenting adults who have made their choices when it comes to such priorities, and to assume that they aren’t, because they think differently than yourself, or the status quo, is just as judgmental and narrow minded, as people accuse the fundamentally religious of being so, when it comes to not supporting homosexual relationships. You may not be religious and that’s certainly your prerogative, as is the right to hold the opinion that the nature of sexual relationships is paramount to a couple’s happiness, as it typically is the case, since humans, in general, are sexual beings. But don’t assume just because you and many others tend to feel that way, that means everyone else in the world has to as well. People are all different and have different priorities. For people whose religious beliefs are very important to them, being happy both in life and marriage/long term relationships, is very integral to being loyal to their own personal sense of moral conviction. It’s much like supporting the relationships between gay individuals. It’s not for anyone else to determine what constitutes a happy and fulfilling life or marriage for someone else, only the individuals involved can truly know that. If they come to feel it isn’t working for them, that’s between them as well and it’s their choice to change it or not. Just like in supporting the LGBT community, in their rights to have relationships, it’s all about live and let live, not, “Your way of thinking and feeling is wrong, or dismal, because it’s different than I think it should be.”

OK, to all the commenters: he was even told by his parents that they'd accept him no matter what, AND HE STILL CHOSE HER!!!! That's not to downgrade the pain and misery of people such as the other guy in the video, or of anyone who identifies as gay and constantly feels judged. I'm LDS, and I've seen for myself and through fellow members' accounts that even within a Church that couldn't possibly emphasize more the need to speak kindly and show Christlike love and attributes to ALL of God's children, gay or straight (though some on here, due to the Church's stance on marriage, would disagree - to which I say, "That's OK - you're free to your opinion"), there are plenty of busybodies who live the "church culture" rather than Church teachings - my family is a bit different. I don't mean to equate my personal experiences with that of others which were most definitely worse, but we've had some wards (or "congregations" as you might call them) where I felt that bitter sting of loneliness and being cut off from everyone because my family didn't fit that perfect little Molly Mormon mold. So, sadly, it doesn't surprise me to hear about members feeling ostracized or and judged from fellow members who think they know what they're talking about but really don't (keep in mind, the Church may have a firm stance on marriage, but our leaders have also countless times taught that we should spread love, kindness, and acceptance to people with same-sex attraction . . . including those who disagree with that stance. So it's not a Church issue, it's a "culture" issue). That said, that doesn't give anyone the right to tell these people not to try to make it. If he married her simply because marrying a woman was the right thing to do, or if he were trying to "fix" his same-sex attraction, I'd say differently. But that's not the case - he *chose* her. And I'll point out, too, that *she* chose *him* - I say that, because as much misery and suffering as many homosexual people already go through in the Church, for some that causes even *more* heartache - the idea even someone of the opposite sex refuses to marry a gay person. This leaves them feeling even *more* judged and ostracized. The fact that she doesn't judge him may very well be what got him to choose her. And, finally, what of people who *aren't* so religious and are gay (homosexual activity and everything, and fully identify as gay or lesbian) and yet suddenly find that *one* person of the other sex who throws them through a loop? Heck, there's an article out there about a lesbian who wound up marrying her egg donor and daughter's biological father. Look it up, if you don't believe me. These people typically say that their attraction is more emotional than sexual (which is what I'd imagine true love actually is, anyway). Are we going to tell *them* that their feelings for each other aren't real? Isn't saying a mixed-orientation relationship such as the one in the video is doomed to fail a slap in *their* faces? Because they will tell you it's every bit as real as their relationships with anyone of the same sex (in some cases, even more so). Just don't judge someone else's marriage and relationships based on bias. That's all I'm trying to say.

@@veganreignmaker Hmmm . . . So . . . You're telling me . . . That a gay man shouldn't be able to choose to marry whoever he wants? AND if you watched the video, they said that his parents told him it'd be completely OK if he married a man. AND he said, when given the choice between the Church and his marriage with his wife, he would choose his marriage. Might want to consider that his love for her might actually be genuine? There's a lot more to love - even romantic love - than lusting after each other. And there is a VAST difference between being "realistic" and outright judging someone else's situation and experience just for being different from others. I've even had some gay people - as in even have S.O.s of the same sex - say that a mixed orientation marriage *can* work. If you don't believe people should be judged for who they marry, then I highly suggest you start practicing that, yourself, before accusing others of "mental gymnastics".

I had never felt that energy of 'I WANT you', mixed with so much pure love at the same time. And he was gay. And it was an impossible situation. I've never had so much heartache in my entire life. I thought I was going to die from heart pain. Must have been something spiritual. But impossible in this life. Ultimately, the problem was also that in the end, he was not as brave and honest as I am. We did not have the same standards in that regard. He was a bit of a shape shifter (lots of 'white lies'). A bad communicator and a bit of a chicken. So, it probably never would have worked out anyway. Pffff.... this love stuff can be so complicated. I still cry when I think of him sometimes. I will always love him.

This is the medical proof that I was born gay. The President of the Baptist Church who was a Dr said if I went through electronic shock therapy I would become straight. They put me in a locked booth and put a wire ring that measured temperature changes on my private parts and showed me about 1000 pictures of men and 1000 pictures of women over about 10 days. When my body temperature rose when I saw pictures of the men, which is natural for me, they delivered high voltages of electricity through other wires that were also attached. It was horrific. But the machine never recorded ANYTHING when I saw all those pictures of nude women. There isn't anything anyone can do to influence the outcome of those tests. The Dr at the facility said it proved that being gay is not a choice, that I am gay, and that I was born gay. When I came back to the original Dr, he laughed and said, (I quote verbatum) "That would have really hurt you eh". I went through 13 years of reparative therapy that did an enormous amount of damage. That included two lots of surgery on my esophagus for gastric reflux from the pressure of LYING about my God given gay sexual orientation. Last year I had a heart attack when my heart was 90% blocked from the long term stress of being in a MOM. I have been married to my wife for 51 years and nursed her with MS for 25 years. She is in a nursing home nearby now that costs over $A1000 per week. She accepts me and my gay friends. The Baptist Church has told me I am not welcome to even attend church, and that I never have been. I was a Baptist Pastor and Missionary. I am not sexually active. When one member of a mixed orientation is gay, that person is lying. Last time I checked, lying is sin. I strongly support same sex marriage. I have been retired over 22 years. Update: My wife passed in June 2022. Before she died I thanked her for accepting me as her gay husband. She said "Of course. That was easy. Why wouldn't I?" She was wonderful.

I’m fascinated by this dynamic. I knew I was gay since kindergarten, and even though I got push back from my parents, there was no way in hell that I was going to be with a woman and eat p***y (sorry for being crude). My mother eventually came around. But even if she didn’t, I was prepared to spend the rest of my life alone if I wasn’t going to be with another man. And if anybody guffawed and had a problem with it, I’d just say “by all means, eat all the p***y you want in my place. I’m allergic.” Of course, I went through my own coming out process, but I guess it helped that I had remained steadfast in my beliefs since an early age.

I find this slightly disturbing, not because gay man/straight woman or straight man/gay woman shouldn't be able to do what makes them mutually happy, because they should and I'm fully supportive. In fact, many marriages coexist peacefully in which either the husband or the wife is bisexual and has the freedom to seek out same-sex partners outside the marriage with their spouse's blessing in order to allow the sentimental and familial bond of of love and obligation they share to exist without any undue hindrance. However, my only qualms stem from the fact that this arrangement appears to have been arrived at only as a way of fitting into a Church-sanctioned paradigm of sorts, an already worrisome motivation, but especially so in a Church which still views LGBTQ+ members as alien creatures to be 'tolerated' rather than fully embraced and given the freedom to marry whomever they actually LOVE and are attracted to, both physically and sentimentally. Also, in response to the assertion made by the first mixed-orientation wife, Lindsay Hickman, to the effect that her husband chose her 'out of all the boys and the girls,' I would have to disagree for it appears as though he chose her simply because she was his only viable option if he wished to be gay and married in the Mormon Church.
