One of the most common questions Dr Blake Bloxham of Feller & Bloxham Medical, PC (www.fellermedical.com) is asked during consultations is: Can I lower my hairline with hair transplant surgery? And while this question may seem simple, it's actually a very good and complex question for patients to ask and understand. When I patient asks if they can lower their hairline, they likely do not mean it literally. All patients are likely aware that a line can be drawn below their current hairline and grafts can be implanted into this area. However, what patients actually want to know when they ask this question is whether or not it's possible to lower the hairline in a dense, natural manner, and if it's possible to do it in one pass. The answer to this question, is still: Yes! However, the hairline lowering must be approached in a specific way to give the patient the best chance at really lowering the hairline in a convincing manner.
To demonstrate this point, Dr Bloxham shares the example of a patient in his mid-20's with minimal and isolated frontal loss. He never liked the height and shape of his hairline, but some slight frontal recession made things even worse. So, he decided he wanted to lower his hairline with hair transplants. However, his surrounding hair was very thick and there was no way to create a convincing lower hairline without great density and artistic, natural hairline design in the front. The patient also was hoping this could be done in one pass.
So, did it work? Was he actually able to lower his hairline in this scenario with hair transplants? Watch the video to find out!
