I don't even have a reef tank and i geek out at these videos... THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME! Love it when science gets mixed in with a hobby in a way that it doesn't really play a part in at this level currently.

I can't thank you and your sponsors enough for this work. In fact, I watched your entire 52 weeks of reefing series, and its been essential as I setup my first Reef tank. Your contributions to this hobby are fantastic, and most (MOST!) appreciated by me and other new reefers, I'm sure. I'll be following this experiment closely. My (new 3 month) tank is running between 7.9 and 8.0 using outside air and a reverse light cycle algae reactor. Be interested to see if I have to take more proactive steps to speed up growth of all the new frags in my tank.

I love what you guys are doing with trhis test! Ph is something I have struggled with as I have my entire system in a finished basement. Running an outside airline for the skimmer has helped but getting above 8.15 doesn't happen often, only when the weather permits a window being cracked. Even then, the upper teens is the best I've seen.

I personally say thank you everyone involved in bringing this information to the BRS community. I think all three of the companies named in helping with this test ECOTECH, Neptune, and WWC are great stand up folks who care about the Critters as much or more than making money in all this. Back to greatness 😊👍🏻. I must say I am not a fan of the ULM series but that would be a whole other topic. I believe what you are doing for the hobby is awesome and priceless! I see on forums naysayers saying you do this just to sell goods and I honestly do not understand how can people conclude such a thing from your videos. I guess most do not even watch them. I believe you guys are giving much more than your fare share to the hobby so thank you for that. The only thing I would add would be adding a kalk based test tank as. PH enhancing method. I understand kalk adds several other variables but in the end all of these are biological and chemical reactions and kalk is something that a lot of reefers can easily use. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

Thank you for all your work. I personally try to keep my tank around 8.4 with alkaline buffer. 7 milimeters almost everyday. I also feed my corals (predominately anemones) reef frenzy and they have grown alot in a couple of months. I know a guy with a great tank and he even keeps his pH around 8.9. This is going to be a great experiment and looking forward to the results.

Just a note about ocean acidification. If the average pH of the ocean drops to 7.8 from 8.1 by 2100 as predicted, it will still be well above seven, the neutral point where alkalinity becomes acidity. The central concern is that lower pH will make it harder for corals, clams and other “calcifier” creatures to make calcium carbonate skeletons and shells. Yet this concern also may be overstated. Off Papua New Guinea and the Italian island of Ischia, where natural carbon-dioxide bubbles from volcanic vents make the sea less alkaline, and off the Yucatan, where underwater springs make seawater actually acidic, studies have shown that at least some kinds of calcifiers still thrive-at least as far down as pH 7.8. In a recent experiment in the Mediterranean, reported in Nature Climate Change, corals and mollusks were transplanted to lower pH sites, where they proved “able to calcify and grow at even faster than normal rates when exposed to the high [carbon-dioxide] levels projected for the next 300 years.” In any case, freshwater mussels thrive in Scottish rivers, where the pH is as low as five. Source Scripps.
