Can a Jackery 240 or 300 start a Mini Fridge?

If it were me I’d keep the 240. I’m think about power outages like the recent freeze we went through. Having the ability to have multiple charging stations in my house would have been nice. Or, any longer power outages I could rotate the devices out, use one while the others are solar charging. You get the idea. Thanks for the review.

I was just thinking the same way, better to have couple of 300w power stations and charge one while using the other or just using both in diferent rooms instead of having one bigger station, (unless I could afford two more expensive units)

I just got the 300 to test on a road trip this weekend. I want to eventually go on longer solo road trips and maybe get the 500 in the future as I like having backups of things. Especially if I plan on going to the middle of nowhere type places.

You were cracking me up. You could have had the 500 already and sounds like you will soon :). Today, on amazon, the 240 is $169 (lightning deal), 300 is $299, and 500 is $420. 300 is newer and has the advantages you mentioned just not sure worth twice the cost. To be fair Ebay does have the 300 for $269 new shipped. I do find slow charges last longer than fast charging so I do like the 5v 2.4a on these.

I too have had the same experience as you - the slower you charge, the better it is for the battery, and also how full of a charge you typically end up with. Problem is you don't always have time for slow charges. There is a place for everything!

I think if someone was a on strict budget, the 300 is the better buy over the 240 (actually I think the 300 is basically the replacement as I've read the 240 is discontinued I think now). But for an extra $100 you do get a lot of options. The jump from the 300 to 500 is about $200 so it may be harder to justify for some, especially since it's ability to charge a laptop for example, is only marginally different (one extra charge according to Jackery, between the 500 and 300). If you need to run a mini-fridge for more than 4-5 hours then yeah the 500 is the better options and probably the best overall deal if you need more power, but the 300 at $300 isn't bad either. It comes out to about $1 per watt in the end, with the 160 and 240 offering a slightly better per-watt cost, but their practical use is more limited.

I have the Jackery 240, 1000 and 1500. All three models have their niche. The 240 is best for recharging my phone. The 1000 runs my wifi router and Chromebook. The 1500 is powerful enough to run my coffee maker. I rotate all three on the solar panels. I like the 240 because it is lightweight and very portable and charges fast via the car charger. I do agree the EcoFlow makes some good products that outperform the Jackeries. The Jackeries are overpriced for what you get, but they are well-made.

Jackery have now started to flood the UK market via YT through RV and campers channels. I am really glad they did because I like to go off camping and use my portable amateur radio kit and decided that the Jackery 500 and solar panel would likely support my power needs for a few days, it did and what a great unit. I can run my compressor cool box and radio kit all weekend with no problems whatsoever. I usually keep it in the boot of the car hooked up to the rear 12v outlet, that way it is fully charged any time I need it. I don't know if leaving it hooked up in this way will have any long term effect on it, but if anyone knows, please comment. Thank you for a great vlog and the information.

I saw a UK reviewer that was reviewing a jackery the other day and I was dumbfounded at first at "what the hell is wrong with the face of that thing?" And then I remembered that y'all have different AC outlets than us and that they, of course, had to modify the outlets to work with your guys different outlet plug in

Oh, and to answer your question, jackery says on their website and the owners manual that it's ok to leave plugged in all the time. I'd still recommend to unplug and actually use it every now and then to keep the batteries active. I usually try not to let mine sit more than 2 or so weeks without using, just to give the unit some "exercise"

100 watts for one hour = 100watt hours. So if your battery is 300 watt hours, then it will run 100 watts for 3 hours, or 300 watts for 1 hour. That would be at 100% efficiency and from 100% down to 0%. Your mileage may vary with inverter efficiency, battery age, etc.

Unfortunately jackery is over hyped in my opinion. The EcoFlow River can handle up to 1200watts and can accept double the solar input (200w) and it also cheaper than the jackery but gives better design!

I made this video before I knew about EcoFlow, but I now own a River Pro and Delta. Both are better than Jackery and EcoFlow keeps coming out with new cool stuff. Feel like Jackery is now behind EcoFlow trying to play catch-up. Thanks for your comment!

I have the 500 abd testet my mini frige too. The start load is too hight für the 500 too. I think you would need a jackery 1000 for a frige.

Ive got a 240 and will start my full size fridge atleast get an hour of use out of it to get the fridge back to temp and then recharge the jackery in car or something.

With all the jack you're dropping on power stations, why not pick up a 12V fridge/freezer? Mine powers on a Jack 240 😀45W! Old/outdated fridges are perfect for the Good Will store...no need to keep them around!

No, the 300 does not support a 3.7 cu fridge. It stays on for about 5 seconds and then shuts off. Works great for my CPAP though.

Did you attempt to have the refrigerator already cooled then turn it over to battery power? It would be interesting to see if it could maintain operation on battery vs trying to start it on battery.

I suspect it would run just fine if it was started on grid, then switched over to battery. However, every cycle would require another startup, (which happens many times per hour) so not sure how practical that scenario would be. Am I missing a use case that this would be beneficial for? I can think of a way to test this with some 120V DPDT relays though if necessary. I might even have the right relay necessary to test this scenario with.

I received mine last week the E240, but noticed it can't charge using a fast charging cable for a mobile phone. Has to be the normal cable that takes ages to charge your phone. Any ideas how to get around this? Only thing I feel disappointed about. As wanted to be able to fast charge my phone off it using the USB port or UK plug port as wanted to use phone to watch movies etc when camping etc. Do you have any solutions to deal with the fast charging issue I.e mobile s9 plus. I don't require the bigger Jackery at present so will probably do what you have in getting two. I gather you are talking about Chrome about the guy with the Van and the Jackery 500 and 240. My advice would be, get a compatible solar panel down the road like you have that is waterproof as theirs I have found out is not. In the UK, the E240 Jackery is £259. You got a bargain. Lastly many youtubers were sent Jackerys about 2 months ago, free. Write to them and see whether they will give you a 500 Jackery as you already have two of their products don't think you will have a problem.

Honestly I've been more interested in the 110v plug and not as focused on the USB charging, however I do think the Jackery 300 has better USB options. Example, it has USB Type C that can go in or out, and also QC. I ultimately returned the 240 and got the 300. I would recommend you do the same esp if you plan to use the USB charging feature more. The 300 is just newer tech. I did get a rockpals 100w portable solar panel that I used on a recent camping trip with the Jackerys. Stay tuned for some more Jackery experiment/review videos. I ended up buying a Jackery 500 to run the mini fridge, but I got it during their explorer week at a killer price. Didn't think about writing them to see if they would send me one, but I also wouldn't mind having a second one based on my observations from my recent trip where I ran my mini fridge with it. I wonder how old your mini fridge is. Because mine runs my mini fridge no problem. And I have the 300. My mini fridge is a 4.3 cubic foot galanz. Pulls 250 watts starting. But then consumes about 50 the rest of the time.

It is pretty old. I bought it used probably 10 years ago. I have a newer one that is 1 year old, but even the Jackery 500 struggles to run that one. I will have to check out the galanz. Maybe they have more efficient compressors. Thanks for your comment - it is very helpful!

@@suebearer9713 The DC adapter cables (DC plugs) that come with icecos are finicky as hell, really the only negative. The strong spring seems to make them lose connection. Make sure it has a good connection, hold it together to test. A 300 should run it at any charge level (the 300 is regulated output).

Such a shame I have the same set up as you but I love all my jackery's we had power outages and my wife come in I need power I hand the 240 and she goes away happy win win so I'd suggest keeping your 240 just store it at 90% and take it out couple times a year drain it and in an emergency you'll be glad you kept it. Best to store it between 60% and 80%, not 90%. Whatever you do, do not store these at 100% unless you plan to use them that same day. Lastly, never drain them past 20%. Lithium battery's work best in the 20-80% range. You will get the best lifespan out of them if you follow these simple tips.

You have to understand the schematics of wattage. You have to have at least 3 times the watts to start the fridge and then it will run

Check the wattage rating on your pump. If it plugs into your household outlet, then take the amps and multiply by volts (example, 1 amp 120 volts = 120 watts). If its below the inverter rating, then you should be fine. If its 12v (plugs into a car cig lighter) then I think these Jackeries can do 120 watts on their 12v outlet. Hope this helps!

Yes, you should be able to watch TV. Length will depend on numerous factors - how large your TV is, the wattage, and also other devices you might be powering as well - for instance, if its a smart TV, you probably also need to power your internet. If you are watching a DVD, then powering the DVD player, etc. On a recent camping trip I used the Jackery 300 to power a small 23in LED TV and my SNES Classic (USB powered). I don't recall how long it could run for, but it consumed surprisingly minimal power. Good question though!

I have a 12v compressor style fridge now that I recommend. consumes much less watts, but also has a soft-start so it runs even on the smallest Jackery. Problem is the internal volume is much smaller. Everything has a trade off. As for kettles and toasters - you can only get so much BTU per watt. Burning watts to create heat is already 100% efficient, so if they had low powered kettles/toasters, it would just mean they don't run as hot and thus requiring to run longer. In the end, you would still burn the same amount of power. Hopefully that helps. My thought process is when you need heat, batteries aren't always the best option. Thanks for your comment.
