WW2 planes had guns that shot through the propeller. But if I’m remembering correctly, the propeller was connected to the gun in some way, where if you held down the trigger, the gun would only fire at certain intervals based off of where the propeller was in its rotation.

This dilemma was encountered in WWI when machine guns were first attached to airplanes. The propellers were shot off, which is why a synchronization/interrupter mechanism (which would temporarily prevent a gun from firing when a propeller blade was in front of the barrel) was developed for aircraft firearms for WWII combat aircraft (or in some cases such as some German fighters, a cannon barrel came out through the shaft of the propeller). It is a well-known historical fact that airplane-mounted firearms shot off/destroyed propellers. That said, airplane gun calibers were much more substantial than .223 or .308, and fired at a much higher rate of fire.
@elementalist19845 ай бұрын

If you're shooting from a distance and you're trying to hit something directly behind the glass then you'll hit it. But when it's a foot away from the muzzle of your gun and the glass is at an angle as windshields are then it's going to deflect it millimeters and down range that's going to be actual meters. I have shot through glass before and no it doesn't go straight through when you're too close to it.

There are 2 things I will caution about, both of which will happen during one single event. In the case of shooting enough holes in one of the propellers it is highly likely the tip will snap off shooting it off in a random direction, danger in just about any direction as it can ricochet off or even be sent up and fall down in a unknown area. Next thing to worry about after that happens is the van, you now have a unbalanced blade spinning at speed, this can lead to it rocking the van off of the blocks, the fan deflecting and spinning itself apart spewing more shrapnel. Best case the intact propeller deflects and gets stuck cutting into the van without throwing around additional shrapnel. Video is very entertaining, I just don't want to see any one get seriously hurt.

This was actually a thing with prop planes when they decided to mount guns on them. Safety was not as much a concern during early engineering process and planes went down because they were shooting their own props off. In order to make guns on planes work, they had to build systems into the guns that timed the shots so they passed between the prop blades as they spun.
@DH-xw6jp5 ай бұрын
Fun fact: the "machine gun" mounted on a WWI biplane was actually semi automatic and used a trigger rod actuated by the engine's cam shaft to pull the trigger once for every second revolution (so the gun's rpm was directly tied to half the engine's rpm) to prevent pilots from accidentally shooting their own propellers. The trigger the pilot used simply engaged a linkage connecting the engine to the gun. This design (or something similar) was used on all fighter planes untill the guns got moved to the wings of the plane and could clear the propeller.

“Pinned and welded” means the suppressor cannot come off, and prevents needing a SBR tax stamp. You shouldn’t address the length of the barrel, and then immediately admit to breaking the law…

I like the fact that the most ironic thing ever is seeing SimpliSafe sponsoring videos of Matt doing the opposite of safe 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Bro?? Are you alive 🤔. I been coming to KZbin every day for a week expecting to see a new video and everytime I see nothing but disappointment, heartbreak and crushed hopes and dreams. FML.

When they first started mounting machine guns on aircraft in WW1, they were mounted outside the arc of the propeller, usually on top of the upper wing. Anthony Fokker developed the interrupter gear that stopped the gun from firing when the propeller was in the path of the bullet. He mounted it on the Eindecker monoplane and made history with it.

I really dislike that now that he has a ton of money he doesn’t care as much about this channel anymore the videos are short as in actual content he skips calibers like I do punctuation videos just simply suck now

I agree! I’ve been watching demo ranch for years and the old videos were so much better. I hate to say but I enjoy when the KZbin channels are small, like they are hungry and care about content. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad Matt has made it and all but it’s just not like it used to be

Or maybe he's so busy with the resort that he has no extra time, but he cares so much about this channel that he still squeezes in just enough time to shoot one

@Sneakdisscommentbelow it's not fun for him you can see it. He doesn't seem into anymore. As someone else said he's to worried about the resort.👌🖕

Amazing! As an aircraft mechanic who works on props, I've always wanted to see lots of different things thrown into them, like whole chickens, watermelons, wood planks, etc. Looking forward to some destruction next time!!

Some WW1 planes fired their guns through the prop. Half the time, the gun was linked to a mechanism that would disable the gun if the prop was in front of it. The other half of the time, the prop was reinforced to take the shots.

For the van for next time, find the parking brake cables, pull the parking brake as hard as possible, then clamp the drivers side cable so it stays engages, maybe with vise grips, then release the parking brake. This will keep the drivers side from taking most of the speed, and make sure all rotation goes through the prop, which will make it spin twice as fast. Then you have no brake smoke, etc.

Hey Matt, if you really want it spinning fast, take the front clip off the van and mount it directly on the front main engine pulley. Good luck 👍
