Cat makes some nice equipment BUT working on any of the computer controlled stuff is a nightmare. We have a Cat powered crusher and if the water temp or oil pressure sender are out of spec the thing goes into limp mode. So far we have replaced the oil sender three times and the water sender twice in 4 years. Thankfully our skidsteers and mini excavators are mechanical engines. Our Kenworth T300 dump truck has a computer controlled Cat engine in it and without a Cat code reader you can't do squat for repairs. Needless to say I'll stick it out with older equipment that is easy to work on.

My experience with newer cat equipment, low battery will throw all kinds of random codes. Being cold and not plugged in on the block heater the oil was just cold and thick. There should be a number above the stop sign on the display. Look up that code. My bet is sensor low current. Meaning dead battery usually. Also most cat run the injection pump run off oil pump. No oil pressure then no fuel and won’t run

That little red button is to bypass all safety features and send all power possible to the cables for a really dead battery. To enable you have to hold down that red button for a few seconds. May have been exactly what you needed if your other batteries had been charged enough.
@alskjflaksjdflakjdfКүн бұрын
Agreed. Normally those jump boxes refuse to deliver power if they don't sense voltage on the leads. This is to prevent dead short situations and possibly a fire. If you do have a completely dead battery you'll have to hold down the red button and the voltage check will be bypassed. In Alberta where I live the small Noco boost will start a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder if the device is warm, but wouldn't start a 2.8 liter 4 cylinder in -20C. It's worth it to invest in the larger devices in cold climates.
@Zack-Hates-YoutubeКүн бұрын
@alskjflaksjdflakjdf Another thing I noticed is that with any of the Nocos they only had the last green light flashing. From my experience and the manual, it's ready to jumpstart when the lights are chasing from lowest to highest. Maybe one green blinking light indicates no voltage or a trickle charge.

All my packs only deliver max juice for 10 or so seconds. Mine doesn’t deliver long enough for the glow plugs - so I have Mrs Hall in the cabin to start the plugs - then I give it a second shot for the engine. The smaller ones may also struggle with an engine that size of that CAT in that cold weather - in the UK, our (moderately beefy) jump pack struggles with our 2.5l Navara engine in the cold … YMMV. But absolutely worth knowing how to use that “force all the juice” mode. I like the comments on Wranglestar videos … I feel like they’re what the internet was meant to be 🙂

I have a couple Noco jumper boxes like you. In normal conditions they work fine. However, in extreme cold they do not get it done. When batteries seem to die here in NE Wyoming is when it's negative temps. So I bought a traditional lead acid jump box with 500CCA and that thing has already jumped 3-4 trucks in those temps without a hesitation. Yes it's big and heavy, but, it works which is all I really care about. Jumper cables would do as well but sometimes getting another vehicle close enough is difficult. But I carry both just in case.

When jump starting a diesel I find it’s best to turn key on then wait for glow plugs or intake heater to time out. Before you engage starter and try to start engine. The glow plugs/ heater pull a lot of amps that on top of the starter can be to much for jump packs. Sad to see over 1k worth of battery jump packs and power supplies and all that was needed is a simple set of jumper cables.

at my work (i work for a fertiliser company here in Scotland) i use a Linde H80 evo forklift, its about 6 years old. stopping for 2 weeks at xmas, first day back it threw a fault code and went into limp home mode. the boss turned it off then on again, dampness on the battery and alternator, once it had warmed up thing was fine. so much modern machines depend on the batter not dying so if your battery goes into a low state where its pretty much a dead battery, it can confuse the computer. if its a $10 part then change it for a new one, common fault parts are cheap as they commonly break or fault. but you might need to look into getting a new battery too.

@wranglerstar I would love to help. From what I can see, that looks like an oil pressure switch like you mentioned. It was hard to see the wire connected to it on the video but it looks like a single wire sensor aka switch. If this is true, then it should make connection/disconnection of ground to the wire through the sensor body itself when a set pressure it met/not met e.g engine on vs off. You can test this with a simple multimeter and resistance/continuity test. If this is not a single wire sensor and is a 3 wire sensor it would be a pressure transducer, and actually have the ability to read accurate oil pressure. I can also explain how that circuitry works or set you up with some other videos that explain the design well. Let me know!

Put that hose on into a container start it and check flow a second or two. At the very least you may dislodge a blockage in the circuit. Just a suggestion though. Also I have a 40 year old craftsman battery charger with 200 amp boost. It never say error or fail and will weld the terminals together if I so choose. Small jumper boxes are great but sometimes need time to build a charge in a dead dead battery.😊

Something like this where I knew the vehicle had to sit in the cold I'd just pull the battery to keep it from that happening. Considering how important the Mini Ex and SS is for you maybe consider picking up a third battery now since the SS battery seems on its way out. This way you always have a battery to grab if you really need it. Stores might not be open if evac or emergency has been declared.
