True confession. My brother had a lot car, no driver's side window. I had a CO2 Daisy Luger pistol. Fired a shot through the window from about 100 ft away. Saw the bb go through and hit the rear window. Honeycombed the whole thing instantly. I found a rock, used it to punch a hole in the glass from the outside, and left it on the back seat with some bits of glass. Convinced my brother that the kids from the next street over had come through the woods and thrown a rock through the rear window. So yes, a point source impact can shatter a car window, where a blunt impact might have no effect.

The revolver performed best, because it has no gas wasted on the action for blowback, and has more time to speed up the bb(its longer barrel). Non-blowback is best for velocity.

I remember learning somewhere that, in the case of a car accident, car windows (and by extension windshield I suppose?) are designed to shatter. This is due to the fact that if it remained as huge chunks, it could be dangerous if it was projected into the passengers. However, I think the way it was built into the frame allows it to maintain integrity?

Only if hit in the corners, that’s why the glass breaking tools put all the momentum into a single point and you’re supposed to hit the corner, the center is stronger.

Not only are they designed to shatter, they have a tiny protective film that also keeps the glass from flying everywhere and becoming a major hazard, car glass never breaks into sharp pieces if you notice it always shatters into ice-like chunks. Car windows are also designed to break much easier from the inside in case of an emergency where you may be stuck inside.

It's not just for car windows. It's called safety glass, and is designed to pebble into small, uniform sized pieces, same as your bathroom shower door, better quality mirrors in gyms (most are not safety glass) and hotel lobbys, most decorative glass panes in Vegas, most newer store windows, as the looters demostrated, and anywhere else you don't want shards of glass like in a horror movie flying everywhere.

Cool video. I bought the Dan Wesson 8 inch that shoots steel bbs. I was surprised it didn't break a beer bottle from 5 metres. Hit it with many shots but didn't break. The bbs I used were dust devils though so maybe that was the reason. The Dan Wesson is a really cool looking piece. Cheers for the videos

Try the Ruger Superhawk 8 inch it fires 6 mm metal BB's it can smash a thick jam jar at over 20ft.

Dust devils are made of highly compressed powder and are designed to turn into dust on impact (hence the name). They are safe to use but not good at breaking something. Try steel BBs or copper coated lead BBs, they will do the job.

They did produce a bb for airsoft that did go through automotive glass , we had issues with them at large games and banned them from use at games. As far as I know they stopped producing, I still have 4 unopened bags and 1 opened one. Just a novelty now for me. I have way more powerful airsoft stuff that would do the job lol.

If you put a Q-tip down the barrel without a magazine and then you put a sewing needle in the Q-tip and then you muzzle load it you essentially have a blowgun and they're really really fun.

The BB guns did not penetrate the windshield, but they came close…and they sure did a lot more damage then I would have thought. Kind of scary…someone with a full auto BB rifle has a decent chance of breaking through. We are not very protected in our cars, are we?

WOW....I am really surprised how big the damage on the windows are from the BB guns is! Normally you even cannot smash a sidewindow with a headrest from the inside. And those BB guns (1911 and Dan Wesson) are able to kick out about 3,5 Joule maximum! Try it with a Weihrauch HW45 pistol with 7-8 Joules! Should even hit a dent into the doors maybe....?

The Dan Wesson can be converted to shoot.22lr, or .22magnum. Barrels interchangeable same way, cylinder as well. You must figure out your own hammer but it's a real gun masquerading as a toy

Believe it or not this is a true story. In the sixties a friend of mine owned a Benjamin 22 caliber pellet CO2 rifle. It shot a huge hole through cans Soup cans Etc. Now that don't sound like much of a big deal but in the '60s cans were not made of aluminum they were made of steel or some sort of Steel metal combination I'm not totally sure just a lot tougher than aluminum. We shot the same cans with a regular 22 caliber rifle amazingly the damage was similar to the pellet rifle. Pretty damn amazing. I don't know whatever happened to that rifle but I lost track of my buddy back then. I was only 10 11 years old but I wanted that pellet rifle more than anything. In later years I searched high and low for a rifle like that however of all the air CO2 guns I purchased nothing came close to the power that rifle. I'm sure they probably don't even make that model or strength of a pellet or BB rifle anymore. Great memories for my childhood.

Sounds like it could be a Benjamin 362. .22 calibre, and they took 8 gram co2 bulbs.

@@jl3106 sounds right if it was made in the 1950s or early 1960s... from what I remember it was all wood except for the barrel and the pull back CO2 power setting which was at the rear of the barrel shaped like a penny. It's been at least a year since I made this comment and completely forgot about it

You should be putting pellet lube on the co2 capsules when inserting them stops the seals from getting frozen and going hard so the seals will last longer !!
