Yknow, every space marine legion, except for those on crusade (Black Templars) can only have 1000 Space marines

Legions can be as big as they want, the chapters have to be limited to 1000. Ultra-marines being the example of that.

So tell me something. Wtf was the point of having melee units inside the fort? Last line of defense? Melee units should always be sent out to attack unless they are defending a choke point or in a position where ranged attacks cannot be used against them. They were useless as the last line of defense inside the fort. They would have been much more useful had they been sent out to attack the catapults.
