Can am commander 1k shift cable replacement and catching fire.

I’ve been considering buying one from some old guy across the street but he doesn’t know shit about it 🤷‍♂️😂 it’s just his toy but anyway is the a common issue every x amount of hours or miles? His has some “shift linkage play” is what his son told him I don’t intend to tear the thing up but don’t wanna sink a bunch of money into it to just drive around town and some trail occasionally, would this be a good buy or no?

2017 can am commander xt 1000R with 95 hours on it. I have all gears except L and when on high sometimes it stays in L gear but will not say L on cluster only high

thanks for this video buddy! mine seems to not quite go into gear and it does this little "bucking thing" where it wants to go but just throttles up and down a little before it actually gets into gear solidly - and finally takes off - I smell a little burnt rubber at times when it does it - I'm pretty sure it's the cable not going into gear quite right.. :D

Not a problem just trying to help out others. In your case it sounds like a cable issue and possible belt issue. When was the last time the belt was changed. Burnt rubber isn’t good for sure. But one thing I have noticed is these cables seem to slack up. So adjusting them is definitely needed over time.

@@TruckBros Right on man! I actually just changed the belt to the new maverick style belt and it's still doing the little dance... My neighbor works for Can am and when i told him the symptoms and little "dance" mine did sometimes when puttting it in gear and taking off - he reccomended adjusting the cable and thats why i looked up your video! So man, thanks again for posting this. I won't get to work on my machine for a couple weeks til I'm at my farm again but I already ordred the new cable! So would your commander not go into gear when shifting into H or L and R as well? When I shift mine into high from idle then give it gas it will grind like it hadn’t engaged into gear. Not every time it does this but enough to be annoying.

Yes mine did this several times before the cable broke. Canam has a big problem with there bikes getting hung between gears. But you more than likely need a new cable or to adjust yours.
