So the question i have is about what your able to do at port for msc. While yes the pay is important i care more about the travel and being able to see the places we port at. Do you even get to do anything at port and whats the best rate to do if you want to see more off the ship?

Do you think a big portion of the "average calculation" on the MSC websites is taking in account bonus pays, like berthing pay and bonus pay for being on the ship past your relief date?

Yes.... the up to includes all that!

Sir, Your content is awesome! My question is I am retired Navy, Can you just stand watch as an AB or do you have to work in Deck or just stand watch. Thanks for all you do
@thewanderingmariner6 ай бұрын
There is a rating AB(w)"watch stander and AB(m) mechanical which is the day work position. You can stand watch as either position provided your RFPNW certificate is current. Some are designated watchstanders.... usually out of desire and ability to drive the ship well.

How long is training for Ops Chief after NEO? Curious since I start NEO for that position on July 15th
@thewanderingmariner5 ай бұрын
I was hired as a AB when I started working with MSC. There will not be much training for the OPS chief position as you already have the required skills. A few weeks for OPS chief and fire fighting I am guessing.

I recently applied to be a on shore tanker man trainee for PSC group in Chicago. Do you know if it’s possible to move up to maritime merchant from this position V
@thewanderingmariner5 ай бұрын
Yes, it's possible to move up to a maritime merchant position from being an onshore tanker man trainee. Here are some steps and considerations: Gain Experience: Start by gaining as much experience as possible in your current role. Learn about the operations, safety procedures, and technical aspects of tanker management. Additional Training: Look into additional training or certifications that are recognized in the maritime industry. This could include STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) certifications, tanker-specific training, or other relevant courses. Networking: Connect with professionals in the maritime industry. Attend industry events, join maritime organizations, and engage with colleagues who are already in the merchant marine sector. Apply for Positions: Once you have sufficient experience and relevant certifications, start applying for entry-level positions in the maritime merchant sector. This could be through direct employment or through maritime unions and organizations. Seek Mentorship: Finding a mentor in the industry can provide guidance and help you navigate your career path. Best of luck with your journey
