I strongly disagree with the panel’s assessment of the Hurricanes. While it’s true they’ve lost some key players, their depth across the squad shouldn’t be underestimated. There’s plenty of talent waiting to step up, and I have a feeling they’ll defy expectations this season. Don’t be surprised if they emerge as the dark horse of the competition!

Interesting Julian said he's keen for the midfield so he can see more ball, and then Caleb talking about coming off his wing looking to make an impact.

Great show lads, good to see the team back together. Question around the rule changes: If teams cannot place 'pillars' & the halfback cannot be touched within 1m of a ruck, will halfbacks risk box kicking from within this protective circle in hopes of a penalty? (opposing player jumping/diving thorugh to charge down) Can the law be applied this way?
@lovemysport7902

While I am not a fan of ‘escorts’ of a team defending a Box Kick, I similarly think that it is unfair to force a team to allow full access to the individual attempting to catch the ball to be subsequently hit by (possibly multiple) incoming opponents because invariably the individual catching the Ball is standing still waiting for the Ball or has jumped & has just barely got one foot on the ground before they are subsequently hit/tackled. And in reality the removal of the Blockers doesn’t create a 50/50 competition because at the moment all of the advantages are with the Team doing the Box Kick. They can have multiple chasers targeting the 1 Catcher & while the Catcher has to catch it & it is penalised if they knock the ball on, the Chasers can jump & flick/tap it back with a single extended arm/hand. To make the Box Kick contest more 50/50 & also for Player Welfare, how about some/either of the following? 1: If the attackers/chasers are not contesting for the Box Kick Ball then the Chasers must be 5m-10m away from where/when the Ball is caught in the same manner as what the Blockers now have to adhere to 2: The Chasers are not allowed to flick/tap the Ball back & must instead have to try to catch the ball. 3: If the Chasers are allowed to tap/flick the ball back to their ‘support’ players, can the Catchers be allowed to slap/tap/knock the ball on with their team mates not being penalised for what would have previously have been offside - accidental or otherwise? No. 3 might turn the Box Kick Contest into more of an Aussie Rules Rover/Ruck Rover competition but at least it’ll make the Box Kick Contest more of a 50/50 competition. And a good episode to start the season off with off. The interviews with the Saveas & Caleb were good. Season's Greetings!

Hi Guys, I thoroughly enjoy your show, it’s always good to get another perspective. It’s the first show of the year and you’re already staring on the obsession the NZ media seems to have with speeding up the game. Where is this coming from, are the NZ fans really pushing for this? Have you actually canvassed any supporters? Surely there’s a more creative way to compete with other codes. Failing which, rugby runs the risk of slowly morphing into the very codes you seem to be competing with. Rugby’s allure has always been its appeal to all people of all shapes and sizes. I’m not looking to squabble but your obsession with speeding up the game may actually ruin the spectacle for the rest of us. Looking for meaningful engagement, fresh ideas and a better understanding. Keep up the good work on a great show.

Its not so much speeding the game up as stopping it from slowing down any further. We are seeing stop/start matches with less than half an hour ball in play time which is pretty crazy in an 80-minute match. At the end of the day it suits NZ to play fast & open rugby so we will obviously prefer it that way whereas it suits other teams to take the momentum out of the game so they will prefer it their way. No need to worry however as contrary to what some people seem to think, NZ pundits do not call the shots at WR, WR is a business & they will take the game in the direction they think gives them the most commercially viable product to sell.

I think the better question is does anyone exist that wants to watch a slow style of play? Whenever rugby is promoted they use the examples of free flowing open play - why wouldn’t any want to see more of that within the game?

If you want to speed up the game,get rid of the TMo
@regularjohn-o8f
@regularjohn-o8f 7 минут бұрын
@@TheTakbok They cant do that because nowadays people analyze every decision and constantly criticize referees thats why we have seen increased TMO involvement, TMOs are trying to take the heat off the referees and ensure fewer mistakes. Basically, we just need less deliberate time wasting as a tactic to take momentum out of the game.

Blues could go back to back realistically the Chiefs on paper look like they can compete even without Wallace there, but I don't think Clayton McMillan can take the Chiefs to the title, something about his coaching is lacking. They've lost 3 finals under McMillan 2021, 2023 and 2024 they don't have a ruthless edge, they're predictable and they don't possess the killer instinct like Rennie's teams did. I also don't think the Crusaders have the ability under Penney that they did under Razor.

Problem is that Super rugby is basically a local NZ competition which is only watched by NZ and maybe Samoa,Tonga,Fiji.Wanted to ,but havent watched it for three years now,dont know the players dont know the teams.Super rugby has lost massive ground in exposure and im rooting for it and miss that rugby,grew up to early morning Saturday wake up with a game waiting,Super rugby was the best.Miss it
