He has a bad track record when he receives all 3 starters oddly. Of the 3 regions he got all 3 starters only one evolves in each, and only 1 of all reached the final form. Whenever he only gets 1 or 2 of the region's starters, they fully evolve with the exception of rowlet, who had an everstone and still beat its final stage.

i LOVED this video. i have a huge soft spot for the black and white anime, as well as just the anime in general, and it makes me so happy to not see someone completely dunk on it for once. i remember making fun of the anime was really popular around the time these games released. but you completely embraced the spirit of the challenge and fought hard to make your pokemon work in battle- regardless of how traditionally "strong" they are. that's what ash is all about and why he's such a perfect protagonist for the series! i would love to see you do something like this again. maybe in ultra sun and moon? it's my personal favorite arc of the anime and ash has a really fun team that i'd love to see used in a nuzlocke.

To properly play as Ash, you need to go in with no knowledge, obstinately fail to learn at first (at least if Ash's Unova performance is anything like Kanto), but then adjust the game odds to save you at the wildest moments. :P But other than that inconsistency making the game much more consistent than any of Ash's playthroughs, this was a great video! It takes (electro)balls to bring a pikachu to the elite four!

The absolute maniac sent out a Pidgeotto that got stomped and then only managed to win because thundebolt set off the sprinkler system. The boy is the purest kind of madlad.

I think that for the purposes of the anime, having the badges be a thing that gym leaders can award when they think it is proper even if a battle didn't end in success is generally a good change.

Using PKHex you could modify the OT of the trainer to accomplish this. You could even maintain the illusion if you wanted by only changing the trainer ID of the OT, but leaving the name the same, so it just looks like your Pokemon is an ungrateful disobedient little gremlin all of its own volition

The reason electroball did so little damage against sygilyph was because its power is effected the pikachus speed in relation to the opponents. Like with gyro ball but reversed Better plan would have been to nuzzle first, doing a little damage and paralyzing, then used an electro ball. Would have doubled its base power instead of halved, and might have been a one shot
