I would argue that leech seed is a better move than absorb. Once you set it up it can only be removed by them switching out. Also it frees you up to use other moves while the leech seed ticks, as opposed to moves like giga drain and absorb. The major counter to my position is that giga drain and absorb can result in massive single turn healing if used with STAB and type effectiveness, as opposed to LS which benefits from none of that.

I love these crazy FR/LG challenges. Being one of the easier games does have the benefit of being able to do some cool stuff. I also appreciate how this specific challenge makes random trainers actually much harder. Anyway as usual, I would like to suggest a Hardcore Nuzlocke of Pokemon Ultra Sun / Moon with only Pokemon that can learn the moves Moonlight / Morning Sun. It would have to be done with eggs since some of these Pokemon aren't available in USUM in the wild. Pokemon that can learn Morning Sun / Moonlight via Level-Up, Egg-Move, or Event in USUM: Espeon, Beautifly, Cherubi, Venonat, Growlithe, Ponyta, Togepi, Sunkern, Pidove, Clefairy, Oddish, Umbreon, Dustox, Volbeat, Illumise, Munna, Morelull, Exeggcute, Sableye, Noivern. If you include Pokemon that can learn this move not in USUM but in another game that came out before it you also get: Solrock, Lunatone, Nidoran Male / Female, Sneasel, Butterfree, Weepinbell, Tangela, and Scyther.

Hearing you talk about specific trainer encounters made me think of a possibly fun idea for a run. It would be a No Optional Encounters Hardcore Nuzlocke, with the only rule being that you are only able to fight in mandatory fights. This would cause your team to be very under leveled compared to your normal runs as grinding is no longer an option. This could also mean that you will only be able to use Gift Pokemon since random grass or cave encounters aren't "mandatory". Though this may make the challenge too difficult so it could be an optional rule as with a Nuzlocke rule set you must try to catch the first encounter on any route, which "could" count as mandatory if you wanted to. Honestly, I think the challenge could be fun, making it an underleveled Gift Pokemon run might be fun, but I honestly don't know which games would give you enough resources to build an entire team.
