Okay, whether you agree or not, Ash DID own a Haunter. Although, he never caught one in Kanto. In Pokémon Journeys, Dialga and Palkia end up fighting (again), and as a result, Pokémon begin to devolve. This results in Ash's Dragonite turning into a Dratini, Ash's Pikachu becoming a Pichu, and Ash's Gengar becoming a Gastly. So, yes, Ash has owned a Haunter and a Gastly, but not the Kanto one.

my headcanon for ash's gengar is it's that same haunter he left at sabrina's gym. it left eventually and got caught after evolving into a gengar but that trainer abandoned it so gengar went home with ash. he didn't catch it while it was a haunter but i consider that haunter to essentially have been ash's if my headcanon is correct.

Starters are hard to Catch early on because they with a few exceptions have a the very common Catch Rate of 45, shared with many final stage pokemon, all Fossils, Most Psuedo Legendary lines, The entire Eevee line, some Mythical pokemon, ORAS Rayquaza, Gen 5 Reshiram and Zekrom, Gen 6 Xerneas and Yveltal, and the Cosmog Line.

Hey Keegan, here’s an idea for a Pokémon run! Beating Pokémon Shield as a Farmer! You could use Pokémon like Scorbunny (Farmers Breed Rabbits) or Wooloo (Farmers breed Sheep) Or Tauros/Miltank (Farmers Breed Cows) stuff like that.

Quite frankly, I have a hard time imagining an anime accurate Ash finishing this game, even in the non-Ultra version. An Elite Four where several of them use entry hazards alone, I feel, is enough to make me think he’d be SOL. Even if he figured out how to handle it in one battle, he’s going to somehow forget and make the same mistake against Kikui in the end anyways, because he’s Ash. On top of that, his terminally pretty broke ass isn’t gonna be able to match the full restores all of them are using per battle while he rolls in with a terminally under leveled, probably not even fully evolved team and one super high level Pikachu, who still for some reason isn’t at level 100.
