I can'y understand how the whole Blue Sky convo went by without discussing Mastodon and their protocol, which was already widely used when Blue Sky decided to go their own route. What did Blue Sky's protocol offer that's new and, more important, what was the conversation like behind the scenes about that? Seems an obvious missed opportunity there...

Eh, as a journalist I can understand why they didn’t go down that rabbit hole. You have a limited time for an interview, and generally it’s better to focus on the work of your interviewee. You don’t want to invite the CEO of one company on and then talk about another the whole time. Yes, they could focus on BlueSky for the most part and then ask a one-off about Mastodon at the end once they covered everything else, which I think they still could have done, but there’s also a chance with high profile interviews that BlueSky agreed to a set of questions before the interview and may have rejected the direct comparison to Mastodon.
