Nepotism and lack of originality is a Pan-Indian problem. Even the people calling out don’t call out their own privilege sometimes.

Pokhraj, nepotism exists in every industry. If you were my mate, and I had contacts or a position of influence, I'd naturally help you. Great things have happened through nepotism, too. Issue is the not k owing when to stop. The "more for me - less for you" kinda mindset which has little to do with art, and alot to do with greed.

Whoa - Haroon's transformation is immense! 👌🏼 Well done, man!! As for Bollywood, well let's just address the obvious - recent box office successes don't necessarily mean good content, for eg, a Gadar 2 may have broken records, but when I've seen the public reaction online, most have only gone to see "Pakistan get defeated", so it's not a win for Bollywood, its a win for propaganda & hate. If a Satyaprem Ki Katha & Rocky Rani have done well, it doesn't make them fantastic movies, as both dragged and needed editing, despite the well meaning intentions behind both, which they need to be applauded for. Though that said, box office success was majorly influenced by corporate booking, something Dharma Productions did with Bhramastra, too (a very average movie). Pathaan was engulfed in ridiculous controversy, which helped give it that initial boost, though the movie had blatantly STOLEN scenes from the Mission Impossible series, which is embarrassing. I love Shahrukh, and what he's done in the past, and glad the film worked for him, though strictly speaking for the film, its very basic, average, with poor effects. Where are the standards?? Is hype and nostalgia enough? That seems like a lazy way out to me. I did see OMG2 last night and found it to be smart, very effective, entertaining, but also could've done with a few mins chopped off to enhance the impact. Box office only indicates ticket sales, and not actual quality. Hope we keep that in mind. So has Bollywood come back?? In my opinion, the Bollywood I once adored and loved, is still far, far off. Let's see what happens going forth.

23:29 - Babil Khan is lying here. The director of his film "Qala" - Anvita Dutt has openly admitted in interviews that she knew his father Irrfan Khan very well, and she is very close friends with his mother Sutapa, and that she was determined to get her friend's son appearing in her film. And if you watch the film itself, you will see that Babil's performance is actually extremely weak. In many scenes, the camera focuses on the other actor in front of him. And even the lighting is kept very dark and illusive when he has to emote, because clearly he is lacking in acting talent. Go and watch the film again if you don't believe me. This is awful gaslighting by this privileged "starkid" nepobaby

I do not think there should be an OTT-Cinema Binary. The latter is too nebulous to compare.

I would like to know what ticket sales are like - that would be a gauge of big screen success, some type of per capita/gdp factoring in there too. For a market as big as the Hindi-speaking one, I’m surprised. Great report.

After IIFA, Bollywood has given back to back hits like Zara hatke Zara bachke, satyaprem ki katha, rocky and Rani, gadar2, omg 2.. so yes Bollywood can always survive. And ups and downs are part of every industry.

India needs to accept Bollywood is no longer the only Movie Industry & no longer the leading movie industry. To survive Bollywood needs to do the following; 1) Reduce fees of all actors and invest more in the movies themselves (script, VFX special effects etc) 2) Invest in and take more risks with NEW & INNOVATIVE writers and directors & content to encourage more creativity 3) We need to develop and encourage proper lyricists as many top lyricists have died or are getting too old. Without poetry and lyrics Bollywood will no longer have good music 4) We need to encourage more melodious music directors and STOP all nonsense remixes & rappers (Baadshah Yo Yo Honey Singh etc) others Bollywood music will be finished. Since Nadeem Shravan, Jatin-Lalit and Anu Mallik have split up or stepped back melodious music has disappeared. Also AR Rahman has been seriously sidelined by Bollywood. Why? 5) Bollywood needs to accept and embrace other actors outside of film families as there are some brilliant actors who are doing superbly well on OTT but are not getting a chance with big movies. Why did we have to wait so long for Manoj Bajpai and Irfan Khan to get their due? Irfan Khan unfortunately passed away too soo before he saw the fruits of his labour. 6) Bollywood should also continue with the formula movies that actually work. Why fix something if it’s not broken? If masala films work then Bollywood should continue to make them! 7) Stop blaming nepotism! Abhishek Bachchan is the son of INDIA’s biggest movie star ever but Abhishek has had the most flops and one of the biggest struggles ever! Family connections do help but if the public don’t accept you then it doesn’t matter who your mother or father is.
