What's most powerful is watching them slowly transform from the criminal mentality and bitter hearts of darkness to the public service mentality and brave hearts of heroes. It is truly a beautiful thing.

Hell yeah they should be given the chance. Firefighting is a grueling ,dangerous task. If they are trained to do the job while incarcerated, they should have the opportunity to pursue a career doing it after their release. It may be a chance at turning around their lives and be a productive part of society.

I love this! Super program for these inmates. A way to “give back” and hope for their future. I hope they keep it going.

All these comments degrading these people for becoming a member of public safety that helps the community are vegetating behind their keyboards and doing anything.

Yes I did, I was hired, as an Instructor Fire Fighter 1, CPR instructor, First Responder Instructor. I trained and worked while serving my time once I got out I was Hired by Battallion Chief for CDF California Department of Forestry. All States should have a program to give Incarcerated Fire Fighters a 2nd Chance worked for me.....Federal 10 year sentence. During my time I entered the Fire Service Program, trained, tested and became a California Certified Firefighter1 for the State of California. Worked for several years....Wrong info. for FELONS cannot be certified as an EMT? WRONG I did during serving my Time....So much to tell, I always wondered about other inmates and if they pursued a career in the Fire Service......should I open a channel to talk about getting more Inmates as Certified Fire Fighters.

I was in Cal Fire Camarillo, Ca. California Youth Authority. We fought alongside regular firefighters and even passed them up on the fire line. We did more than them and got no credit for it
