Five key takeaways from the video 1) Reliance intends to enter the Beverages sector, Specifically, Carbonated drinks segment using Campa Cola- using its distribution ( 50M jio app and 15000 physical stores) Reliance aims to turn Campa-cola into a National level brand. 2) Carbonated drinks segment is growing at 10-11% , whereas Non Carbonated and Energy drink segment ( which technically comes under Carbonated) have much better growth potential. Further, as people are moving towards healthier lifestyles- carbonated segment which is dominated by Coca-Cola and Pepsi is unlikely to grow. 3) Pepsi and Coca-Cola are Giants in this segment - widely advertised (established association of these brands with feelings e.g They might represent Happiness or remind people of their childhood memories)- well entrenched distribution ( can be found as every nook and corner). Hence, will be very tough for Campa cola to create a space for itself. 4) Varun Beverages is a major player - handles distribution and bottling for pepsi in india- has 925000 visi coolers and 2500 transport vehicles with 15-20% Roe- with their Sting energy priced at 20rs since 2019 drink they are making drinks affordable so that they can penetrate rural areas ( India is a value conscious market). 5) Reliance to make Campa cola successful would have to do Mad advertising (year after year) - appoint bottlers in Tier 2 Tier 3 cities- Tie up with regional Fast food chains ( the international chains like McDonald's and subway already have tie-ups with Coke and Pepsi). Takeaways for investing: When looking to invest in new players entering a sector- understand the diff segments and their future growth potential ( wealth creation happens in a niche market when the needs of the customer's are met)- identify big players and understand how they have built up their brands- look at the history of other new players who have tried to enter the sector ( why they failed or succeded).

Associating the product with key feelings. 4.Creating a product that hooks the customers for more and more. 5.Understand the market and deliver value accordingly. Top key learnings: 1. It is very important to understand the value chain analysis of a company 2. Track the industry about what all new innovations or products are coming to the market 3. Do thorough research on your competitors. For example, you did good research on Campa Cola due to which I came to know that Campa Cola had bottlers in only two locations and it was mostly a regional play 4. Learned about how the brand building is done. For example, whenever we eat Pizza we associate it with having Pepsi at the end otherwise we feel that the meal is not complete, and how companies spend money on advertising to make you feel that you should consume their products 5. We need to continuously track what your competitor is doing. So, here we need to see what Reliance's strategy is in taking promoting its brand Campa Cola and we need to see in the next 2-3 years time if the company is able to take some market share from companies like Coca-Cola and Pepsi 6. Also got to know about the non-alcoholic beverage industry, what are the different categories within it, and their expected growth rate in the next 5 years time

This was the best analysis of industry I have ever seen. 5 learn from this video : 1. Campa has to do crazy advertising express. 2. Campa has to create value by its brand ambassador. 3. Innovation idea like ishmohit said they got free drinks for 1 week in gym. 4.campa has to set up more cooling fridge as VB as done. 5. Campa has to set up more distribution network over the world as pepsi and coca cola has which will be huge expenses . Top 5 my learning 1. we need to understand industry before analysis of company. 2. How MOAT is important for any company which will create value in future. 3. It is not one night game it will take 5-10 year to build brand. 4. Understanding of products is very important for understanding a company. Product is the one which creates a value. 5. Thank you for this wonderful video. Five key learnings from this video are: 1. Understand the landscape of the industry, like the entre beverage sector. 2. Understand how the industry has evolved in developed countries. 3. Understand the moat, like the coolers, transportation, brand creation and advertisement. 4. Learn from failures from others like aerated soft drinks launch by Walmart or Costco. 5. 5 key learnings from the video: 1. Learned about the beverage industries and it's different segments like Carbohydrates and Non Carbohydrates and its overall market size. Non Carbohydrates like energy drinks and dairy segments have higher growth compared to carbohydrates segment. 2.Learned about how brand is made. (A) Classical Conditioning Ex. McD-Coke, Dominos-Pepsi etc. (B) Operant Conditioning. 3 .Learned about the importance of distribution networks, advertisement, and expertise in the sector. Although it is seen there are both success and failure in Private labeling. Success of Costco 's Kirkland other than cola products and failure like Sams cola. Reliance need to really sepend on advertisement and increasing distribution networks by using its retail chain to reach each and every corner of india. As Varun beverages have installed visi coolers in kirana stores even in rural area. 5.And lastly, what we as an investor have to track about reliance in ths long term battle. (i) Extrbsive Advertisement over 5-10 years, (ii) Apointing bottlers and distributors to reach tier 2, tier 3 cities and even rural segments, (iii) How reliance will crack tie-up with fast food brands part, (iv) How it will focus on other segments like non Carbohydrates segments. My top 5 learnings from this video 1. To build a strong brand it is important to know your customer, you need to have a clear idea of who is your customer, what he likes and which niche market to target 2.The market that I will target how it works, who are the competitors, how they plays 3. You don't need to be champion of all segments, if you are weak in some segments just acquire the good one who knows the field and play with him 4. Make strong advertisement or campaigns which can be emotionally attached with customers (Darr ke age jit hai, taste the thunder) 5. Top 5 key learnings from this video 1.Creating consumer patterns : Consumers have become habitual to order coke or pepsi along with fast food and this trend will continue for years. Years ago, there was no such kind of trend like having drink with food joint. This is a very catchy business proposition. 2. Branding building: how important it is to build a brand and how a well reputed brand like maggi or cocacola will act as moat for company 3. Creating a new category leads to growth in retail like e.g. energy drink a new category was introduced by redbull or new segment like non aerated energy drinks. 4. Strategy of acquiring retailers: How pepsi and Coke set up fridges for free in retail stores and then flood the fridge with their own products. This similar strategy is used by Asian paints as they setup paint mixers at hardware stores and then there is no space for other paint mixers 5. Segmenting a market and finding growth segment. 6. Key Learning 1. First dominate one or two types of products, and stabilize your brand then after increase your product portfolio. 2. You have to continuously investing/spending on your brand to stay at the top. 3. It is not very easy to penetrate others market share 4. Top 5 key learnings - Where branding works and where it doesn't - for example in kraft's case it's losing it's value - dhandhe pe dhanda kaise banana hai, reliance launching campa cola to take benefit of it's distribution channel. - Although markets are inherently different vis a vis US and India but still there can be learnings from other markets. -retail business is extremely difficult to scale ( counter Intuitive to what people usually think) - It's extremely important to continuously follow industry trends and user choices. It's ever evolving thing. I'll use these to evaluate retail companies in the future.

MY five key takeaway's from the video are : 1) defining market niche is very important just like redbull and monster did 2) having access to all market size ( be it tier 3 or tier 4 citie's also) in a devloping country like india is done rightly by pepsi by having a proper deal with varun beverages 3) Great advertising strategy by be it pepsi and coca cola using classical conditioning advertising method and literally relating the hot summer's can be fight with a cola drink.. also campa cola having a advertising contract with salman khan in. 1983 was a good move. 4) how can reliance acquire the local drinks and try to tied up it with the famous pan india food outlet my personal suggestion would be to start with wow momo's brand as pepsi had a international contract with dominoz it really helps them and also helps in a conditioning behaviour also 5)though carbonated drinks market size is growing at a cagr of around 11% a beginer level entry into a healthy drinks market segment would be really good for customer's and companies also as the real market size of the healthy segment is yet to be tapped.. at last thank you sir for this video it was a treat to watch...

Top 5 key learnings - 1. Beverage business has many verticals and company have to focus gain market share without loosing margins. 2. Pepsi and Coca Cola are industry leaders and they see new competition every 2-3 years so they are more focused on their business model and capturing new growth avenues. 3. In this industry brand awareness and distribution are equally important bcz if you have awareness but not having product in small villages than it just waste of money in advertising. 4. Tie ups are essential - you can see from example of dominos in dominos you got same pepsi or dew of 60 which is 20 in normal market so from brand prospective this is a good margin boost of tieing up. 5. This market is not easy to capture it require disclipned capital allocation and consistent watch on brand strength. Applying to my investing journey - 1. The first most important as you always says be a learning machine and this utmost important because reading and learning gives you a competitive edge in understanding industry better than others. 2. As an investor of company I should indulge to find the real moat and secret sauce behind market share gain and what will be the next best move by company management .

5 key learnings : 1. It is important to identify trends in market like pepsi did in energy drinks segment with sting. 2. Advertisement plays a crucial role in beverages industry as it helps to develop consumer psychology for a product. Therefore beverage companies should continuously focus on their advertising. 3. It takes time to build a brand in fmcg sector. Therefore companies should focus on long term planning rather than short term planning. 4. Distribution is one of the most important things in fmcg sector which plays as an entry barrier for any new player. 5. Pricing is also important as India is a value conscious market. Product should be priced as per Indians psychology as they demand more value at less price.

Key Learnings 1. Industry analysis with respect to different types of products vis-a-vis targeted market like different age category and affordability 2. Business scaling up through associate partners building in global level and in turn making it difficult for competitors to build such brand value 3. Increasing product mix in view of targeted communities, like energy drinks and making it affordable to masses w.r.t large addressable market 4. Penetrations to each corner of the TAM through establishing more bottling plants and capturing every single possible corner through catering visi coolers and ease of transportation 5. Extensive brand building through mass level continuous advertising by hiring well known public figures and making the brand equivalent to the products.. eg, Maggie=noodles I will use the key mental models in analysing the companies w.r.t the peers. 1 Successful companies/investors understand the whole industry and the competition. 2 To be successfull in fmcg type business building a strong brand and distribution network is very important(e.g cooling fridges and bottling plants). 2 Innovation and creative advertising can help companies stand out and attract customers(like free drinks for a week). 3 A companys products are key to creating value and building a successful business(e.g. red bull, monster). 4 Building a successful brand takes time and effort and requires a strong understanding of the market and customer needs. 5 Even one successful product can have a significant impact on a companys success/turnaround(e.g. sting).

Hell yes. My 5 key take aways - 1. Industry is trying to cater to the affordable and affluent both markets 2. Any one at any stage (Coke is mature given Campa has history and is being restarted) can get disrupted like the new categories in the US 3. You not only need deep pockets to create private labels but deep distribution and execution skills to disrupt, which Reliance retail will need to do across India 4. Brands matter but not everything has brand moat as seen in Heinz example destroyed by Kirkland 5. This will be a multi decadal war to build a private label for Reliance as Bisleri and Tata have fallen by the way. I'm learning and will apply this in creating my framework in understanding the market and the individual stock selection.

Hell Yes! I have been meaning to read Understanding Michael Porter for so long now. Here goes. Top key learnings: 1. How the beverage industry is segmented, its value chain, what players in the industry do to gain market share from their competitors, what it takes to expand to new territories and make new customers. 2. The importance of category expansion, distribution and advertising in beverage industry. 3. The role conditioning plays in creating a habit and feedback loop. 4. How difficult and time taking it is to set up a business like Varun Beverages has. 5. How Reliance may have a hard time gaining market share since the beverage industry is duopolistic all over the world. These learnings help me understand the importance of brand building, distribution and moat in the beverages industry. Also, the way beverage consumption is rising in India, the industry presents huge opportunities for wealth creation in the long term. Discl. Invested in Varun Beverages. Loved the video, pin-point analysis. (Don't ignore the below just because its too long) Key learnings from the video. 1.Depth - Depth - Depth - Always delve deep when understanding. Be a student. (For instance, when discussing about Cola wars - it would have been easy for Ish to just discuss about Pepsi, Cola and Campa Cola, but the fact that he went into all other categories including Fruit juices, diary juices, energy drink and doing brilliant research into USP of different brands including Red Bull, Monster and how they have cracked the market gives a very broader understanding of how the industry, consumer preferences and headwinds) 2.Every industry has its own critical success factors and great companies understand this. (Only backing of giants like Reliance and its earlier successful business stories doesn't promise success in this category too.) 3. When existing companies have created moat in several decades, breaking the moat requires sheer backbreaking on multiple fronts. As students of business, we should constantly track progression of those things periodically . (For this industry, brilliantly explained by Ish in the video as 5 points to track) 4. Perception ≠ Reality. A lot of videos on YT were posted with thumbnail as Campa Cola will kill Pepsi and Coke. (doesn't matter what they have explained in the video, perception is sometimes made in the minds of the people. My fellow friends were discussing Pepsi and Coco-cola can't stand against Reliance now. This isn't true, this is a battle for decades to be watched out.) You should always base your opinions basis research and facts basis relevant industry knowledge. 5. Understanding the proposition that would work well for companies - Pepsi did that well with Sting and enjoys the first mover advantage. It would be a breathtaking battle between the giants in the next decade. We must look out for how the each player places itself in the minds of the people in the next few years. My learnings - Quite similar to ones jotted above. In a nutshell, we should really understand the business in depth. Declutter noise, embrace knowledge :)

Few Learnings : 1. Generally businesses are built where there is no MOAT for example cheese /milk , it's comparatively easy to enter, rather than trying to break into the noodles segment where Maggi is already having first mover/taste advantage. 2. If it's a consumer business then companies have to create an image or associate the product with some event with which everyone can relate for ex: if it's party then coke banta hai . 3. In India we don't have high purchasing power so companies should focus on bringing the product in the smaller packages as people don't think much before spending 10-20 bucks . 4. Placing of the product matters for ex if you go to paan shop and you see a new drink in the front so there are high chances you will purchase that if you keep seeing them , it boils down to marketing only as in case of pepsi/coca we are seeing every shop has pepsi/Coke fridge.( Jo dikhta hai whi bikta hai ). 5. Companies have to invest in distribution( bottling /packaging)if they want to reach PAN India level. Keeping everything at one place will result in local brand ( ex. Lahori jeera, catch ). How we can apply : The information will help in studying other businesses as well for ex. FMCG and now we have some idea what things companies have to do inorder to reach PAN India.

We can Identify a niche segment & attain growth in the market segment: Even is a saturated market of cola and energy drinks National Beverage Corp has created a niche market for itself with its product "La Croix". 2. Barrier for competitors: Just as Pepsi and Coke created barrier by installing cooling machines. 3. Increased customer reach: Which cola companies attained by appointing bottling franchise in various geographical locations and developing robust transportation network. 4. Digital presence plays vital role to promote and boost sales: Reliance and Amazon attained 50Cr and 100Cr subscribers each for their apps which acts as moat as well as helps attain substantial volume. 5. Learnings/ Takeaways Never underestimate the power of giant universal players with a brand reputation. They will put all their efforts into saving it. It's very tough to corner the established supply chain and distribution channel. Brand association, emotional (associated with feelings or senses) or contractual is tough to crack. Nobody could replace Maggie noodles. Nothing is impossible. If the pond is too big, a new speci still holds a chance to co-survive and expand over time. There could be a secret strategy to establish reliance retail as a FMCG player by evolving Campa cola brand. None of their current food or beverage brands are worth doing so

1. Launching in South , a brand hardly having any recall value , is very Intg strategy 2. Price Discounting strategy seems to b on lines of Telecom 3. Coke and Pepsi are too experienced , in warding of competition. Both Hv deep pockets 4. Both are investing hugely in plants , distribution, product mix , sku 5. 1st- before investing in any fmcg company cheak the products through which the revenue are actually coming because if revenues are coming from 1-2 products only then it will be a problem in long run 2- how distribution is important in fmcg business.always cheak the distribution network of an fmcg company before investing. 3- sometimes niche business are better like in case of redbull or monster to invest. Rather then participating into highly competitive market. 4-white labbling can be destructive for the moth's of old And well established business in the categories where there is very Little to no differentiation in product. 5-branding and stretegic partnership will be important In business where entry for new players is easy. I am from surat from where Sosyo originated. As per my view if Sosyo properly marketed then it will gain market share! Reliance has also acquired Shubhlaxmi Polyester again Surat base company. In shubhlaxmi polyester's employee i have so many friends.

I am invested in Varun beverages and was a bit apprehensive as Reliance was entering the fray. After watching this video I think Reliance will have an uphill task. Great video, great analysis. Thanks

Right now, I am in the USA. I observed that Pepsi's portfolio is far better than coca-cola. Even they also pay for more space in cooler. They tie up with many other brands like Starbucks, clush, Rockstar, C4. Feel free & 5hour energy shots have another level.
