They had a similar gag on nmtb in England years back, and James is just copying the tone of that bit. Everyone who did that bit on nmtb knew it was all in good fun --- it's just a little awkward here because the actors are so hesitant to be equally sarcastic, so it doesn't feel like everyone's on the same page....

@@chumplafayette9561 yeah, i guess that's true. For me it's more what it says about the writing choices, that they think the public finds making fun of randos funny. Making fun of people we know makes sense, because we have a connection with them, but this kinda says "we find the humiliation of others funny regardless". Not that any of that is equivalent to finding murder hilarious or anything, it just took me aback.

I guess there's a reason a lot of Brits don't think James Corden is funny...
@cazzle2386
@cazzle2386 5 жыл бұрын
It's because he's not funny ;) no but seriously, in my opinion, he's never been original or creative and he has a tendency to talk over other people with "funny" comments which completely stops any kind of organic conversation or allow guests to be witty and charming as he leaves next to no gap for them to contribute. A good host above all else lets their guests shine and enhance their appearance, not use them as props for their own ego. Also as a Brit, the times he forces himself to sound American or use American slang is cringey as hell, it might go unnoticed by his American audience, but native Brits (especially those who have seen him in Gavin & Stacey or other work) just cringe and shake their head at it. Sounds very false. This whole skit is of course ripped from Never Mind the Buzzcocks (AMAZING SHOW, music based pop culture comedy, highly recommend to anyone outside the uk who hasn't seen it before) and while nothing in television is 100% original as such, it's so blatant and since he himself has been on NMTB, he knew what he was doing and made no mention of it. It's such a beloved show to Brits, this feels super disrespectful. Anyway that's my take on it, if people like him, I'm glad and nobody should tell you not to. Have a great day.

@Gracie Mackie It's a shame he stepped back from showbiz. Being famous only for being on two panel shows wasn't really what he wanted. I wish James could persuade him to host a US-based revamp of NMTB.

Do the panel members on NMTBC have co-stars and band members from over 3 decades ago as well for that potential extra embarrassment as well? And we could also say that NMTBC copied every single police line up ever!

Christian has always been one of my favourite actors. I saw so many of his movies at the cinema when I was a kid / teenager during the 1980s and 1990s.
