Not to forget most dugged in anti vehicle mines are also magnetic triggered, to prevent unwanted discharges.

Not sure if you can call the cement bath bomb shield TOTALLY busted, more plasuble. Because they proved quite well that if you're not specifically designing a bomb to work when flooded with wet concrete it can really screw with the bomb's wiring. It COULD work, it's just that it'd work because it damaged the bomb, not because it blocked it.
@tristanellis-mascoll1171

Exactly what I was about to say. We see in the episode that they "disarm" the bomb with the concrete in a way seen in MacGuyver. And the Mythbusters explained what actually happened. Also if I ever came into such a situation, i ask for that cement, if time for bomb squad was not enough. Rather damage 250ft of whatever compared to 650ft with added deadly pressure wave to that shrapnell.

The Myth was "wet concrete protected the mail van and surroundings from the effect of the entire bomb exploding". Further, the third attempt demonstrated that a bomb designed to explode, and not designed to be 'safe', destroyed everything. *BUSTING* the Myth. Inventing *_different_* Myths which weren't tested doesn't make the tested Myth "Plausible". The Myth was *_NOT_* "wet concrete prevents most of the explosives detonating". Hence the *Myth* was *BUSTED*. The Myth was not "wet concrete reduces the damage caused by explosives detonating". The *Myth* was still *BUSTED*. It is well known that sandbags reduce the damage caused by explosives detonating. There is no myth there. Best Wishes. ☮

@gbulmer Well the myth was "can wet cement reduce damage done by a bomb " As shown in McGuyver. And yes it did in the test done by the Mybusters. Because it partially defused a bomb like the one used in MacGuyver or the first attempt. Unlike the second test, where the bomb was fully waterprotected inside a funnel like structure barely surrounded by wet concrete, but rather additional compressed by the perfect fitting plywood box. Taking physics into the calculation that box enhanced the detonation and directed it upwards and downwards, instead of leaving it to expand into each direction equally.

@@tristanellis-mascoll1171 Thank you for replying. While your argument has merit, it is clear that the Myth the Mythbusters were testing was would the wet concrete absorb the detonation of the bomb, and *NOT* would it prevent some or all of the explosives detonating. Their dialogue, and subsequent actions are clear. The MacGyver episode depicted 'smothering' or absorbing the explosion, not preventing most of the explosive from detonating. I do agree that putting the bomb inside a plywood box may have changed the energy distribution of the explosion enough to be observable. The box appeared to be barely covered by wet concrete, and the slow-motion video did show material reached a much greater height than the 'control' . However, the blast damage at ground level was still devastating. So, though some of the energy appears to be directed away from the surroundings at ground level, the Myth was still *BUSTED*. Worse, without the wooden box, you argue that the energy would not be directed up/down and away from ground level. So, by your proposition, ground level damage would have been worse. That BUSTS the Myth 'even more'. It seems much more likely wet concrete might prevent the bomb detonating than partially prevent detonation. Partial detonation seems like random fluke. Best Wishes. ☮

@@gbulmer No, sorry, you're wrong. The myth is to test what happened in the MacGyver episode; that IS the myth. Altering the circumstances to get the result you want is not really testing a myth, but rather steering it to a certain outcome.

I remembered watching in the UK. They had a very large 300 car and. The SRN-4 300 Car & Passenger Hovercraft Ferry. The fastest time, it took to cross The English Channel was only 22 minutes. Back from the 1990 to 2015. The retired hovercraft. Ran over an egg in on the beach. The SRN-4 Car and passenger hovercraft. Empty weight was 193 tons. After the hovercraft went over the egg. Without breaking the egg. Where this personal hovercraft would weigh less than 150 Lbs without driver. Just a piece of trivia. That I remembered watching this episode of Mythbusters. I was sad when the program ended. But happy to get to see it again.

The heavy hovercraft though kind of proved to be an unwanted middle ground. They weren't as cheap and efficient as a boat but they also weren't as fast or convenient as an aircraft. So this kind of put them into an awkward spot where they weren't appealing that strongly to either crowd. Those that wanted to go for cheap and take a lot of stuff with them and didn't care about speed would just go by boat. While those that lived further inland and did want the journey to be quick would just go by plane. The big ones like the SRN-4 could only effectively operate from ports and there wasn't really a reason to drop off hundreds of people outside of a port. So they were pretty much just ferries that had a quarter of the capacity and cost 4 times as much to operate. They were faster but people who cared about speed would just go by plane instead.

If the wires were not fully isolated, yes. As for a series, I think MacGuyver is more the "bridgetime" series between more realistic effects like in the original The Fall Guy series or some A-Team episodes and more theatrical effects seen in todays series.

Mac never said how it worked… it just was shown to work Whether it cause some sticks not to go off, or it damped the whole blast doesn’t matter. I call that plausible… it disabled most of the bomb.
@gbulmer
@gbulmer Ай бұрын
They stated the Myth they were testing. Everyone who saw the episode of Macgyver thought wet concrete had damped the explosion of the bomb. The likelihood of disabling most of a bomb, but not all, was not part of the Myth. Further, it seems much less likely that wet concrete would disable part of the bomb than completely disabling the bomb. It completely matters what the Myth was. Otherwise it is not possible to test. The Myth, "wet concrete reduces damage by absorbing blast energy" was *BUSTED.* The Myth was *NOT* "wet concrete disables some explosives in a bomb detonating". Best Wishes. ☮

@gbulmer
@gbulmer Ай бұрын
You asked _"how does all these series get paid for?"_ Answer: Advertising. When it cost more to make than the advertising revenue it attracted, it was cancelled. Advertising revenue reduced over the later series. Costs were reduced by reducing staff, but advertising revenue reduced so much it stopped being commissioned. The TV channels believed they could make more profit by using the same amount of time for different shows. Best Wishes. ☮

@gbulmer
@gbulmer Ай бұрын
This is not a compilation. This is one episode, titled "The Explosion Special" first aired January 9, 2016 ①. Mythbusters usually tested more than one myth in one episode. The episode typically cut between multiple myths, rather than serially. Testing many myths often took much less than an entire episode. I AssUMe they put the conclusions of all myths near the end to cause viewers to watch the maximum quantity of advertisements (which are paying production costs and creating profit). Best Wishes. ☮ ① IMDB and Wikipedia have the same date,

@@SirBSpecial Thank you for replying. I was responding to your comment about it being a compilation, and the cutting between myths. It is unfortunate that they didn't use the original episode's title. I suspect that they don't use original episode titles in an attempt to get more advertising revenue. I AssUMe they measure the results because making money from distributing existing content is the uploading company's business. I also AssUMe it likely works because they usually use a new title. Best Wishes. ☮
