so glad I found this! I thought I was going crazy. I haven't noticed the issue on climbs, but on fast turns that tire slides when you least expect it.

So you found the traction unpredictable? What did you go with or recommended in place of? What size wheel and riding you do?

I too like the DHR ll and it’s great as a front too. For me riding a fully rigid means I rely on my tires and rims for a supple feel and some give. That’s why I’ve gone to wider aluminum rims on all my bikes . Of course 3x db spokes help give the wider rim flex. I’ll run 2.5s in the back but try to get 2.6 or better in the front. These are all 29er bikes When I get a 27.5 I’ll go wider, I just completed a Esker Hayduke build so I need to wait before I start getting stuff for my next rig

I love the Rekon+'s for riding in Florida sand and wet, sheds well has enough grip to push you across sandy surfaces without digging in so deep that you waste energy on breaking sticktion. Might have to change it up if I head out west though, they seem to slide too much for out there. I noticed they slide on leaf-litter pretty quickly too.

I just got Rekon + on my hardtail in tan wall. It looks amazing, but I totally agree about the climbing. I enjoy tech climbs as well and after two rides I spun this tire out on climbs that are normally no problem. I like the aggressor in the rear, but thought I'd experiment with the Rekons. Waste of money haha
@hardtailparty

Same experience here. I love the look of tanwalls, but until they make them on the tread I like, I won't be compromising grip for looks. I hope we see more tires with tanwalls soon though, cuz they look great. The funny part is that I have some friends who dont have any issues with the rekons. We ride the same trails and I spin out like crazy, and theirs hook up. Weird.

@@hardtailparty I'm gonna try dropping my pressure in the back to see if they improve, but I like to just think we are both too powerful for these tires. I saw Onza just released white tires, so hopefully this is the era of more color choice in tires.
@hardtailparty
@hardtailparty 5 жыл бұрын
@@CobraKyle Yeah, we must just be too strong. :) I think they're going to start making dh2s and DHFs in tanwall now. Hopefully they include plus tires, but I'm doubtful.

I may try that cushcore when/if I get a new bike. Not sure I would be a fan of that tire. I do like the DHRII, though.

Ha I’m running a DHF 3C front with a DHRII dual compound in the rear. Best traction I’ve ever had and the dual compound in the rear wears evenly with the triple compound front!

I found the DHR II to be slow for climbing compared to the Aggressor or the High Roller. Also, as a front tire I've had more predictability with the DHF, and it only weighs 50gr more. More recently went for a DHF front and Forekaster rear, both 2.6 but mullet config. Man the Forekaster rolls! That's the most accurate to trail tire combo I've tried. The closest that comes to mind is a couple of Continental Mountain Kings... those were magic glue over rock gardens. But they are way more expensive than Maxxis tires.

I have been running the recon WT 3c Maxxterra. 2.4 on the back and really like it on the terrain here. Paired with the DHF WT 2.5 on the front, it makes a good combo. May give something else a shot next time around

The low treads and the V block pattern doesnt hook up on edges as well and an even pattern of small blocks or big blocks. It works fine on smooth climbs but I can see why it’s driving you nuts in Sedona.

What do you think about the specialized slaughter t7? I use a slaughter on my trek slash and feel like I love the tire on this bike in the rear. I am looking at one for my mullet ht for the rear. I currently have dissector tires all around 2.6 and the rear feels spongy kink of like pedal bob I get feedback. Over all I love fast rolling tires on all of my bikes.
