Can Daniel Jones Right the Ship? | NFL Week 2 Review | Kurt Warner Game Tape Study

Күн бұрын

This week on my second Study Ball, I'm going to take a look at Daniel Jones. The reason for this is that he has been highly scrutinized and criticized after signing his big deal - and, in many ways, rightfully so. He hasn't necessarily played his best football. Just a week ago, in Week 1, he really struggled - possibly more than anyone else in the NFL. However, I thought he came back and played extremely well this past week.
Now, I know they didn’t win the game, and without a kicker, that was the difference to me, but it wasn’t on Daniel Jones. He played some really, really good football. On Study Ball, I like to highlight different things - pointing out both sides of what people are saying. A lot of people are harshly criticizing Daniel Jones right now, and as the Giants sit at 0-2, there’s been a lot of talk.
At the end of the day, though, this young man is playing football for the New York Giants, and my goal is to evaluate him in whatever way I can and see where he stands as a quarterback. Last week was rough, but this week, I thought he played really well. There are some things we can learn from this - about the game itself and about quarterback play, which is always a key part of Study Ball. It's not just about criticizing or praising someone, but also about teaching the game and shedding light on who these players are on any given Sunday. So, let's dive into the tape. #danieljones #nfl #newyorkgiants

I think we've seen a big jump in his confidence from wk1 to wk 2. If that continues, and his chemistry with Nabers continues to grow, he could end up have a pretty good season.

Thats the 2 years under judge that made him go into a shell. They said he was a turnover machine when really in his rookie year with 13 games played he threw 12 picks but 23 tds. He was a fumble machine he fumbled like 18 times with like 16 lost. They needed to work on his pocket presence and holding on to thw ball but they over corrected so much that his deep ball is basically non existing

I am going to post the link to this in all the DJ hater comments. For Giants fans you showing him throw the ball away is refreshing, any good decision is worth showing, this guy is so maligned and he just keep stoic, keeps smiling, keeps working. I want him to be successful so much. He showed in 22 that he can. He has 3 times the skill around him now, This video gives me hope…

HI Kurt, don't know if you saw the game last night but you absolutely nailed your prediction about DJ playing well and improving. I know it's pushing our luck a bit, but could you discuss what you think about his deep ball game, and whether it will improve as well? He used to do especially well with this when he was a rookie, but it's been off while the OL hasn't been able to protect him. Cheers for everything you've done, it's a great site and resource.

So let's be real. DJ woulda wiped his ass with him. -Next- 2022 QB Draft Class "DJ must go, DJ must go" Who comes outta the draft? *Pickett, Ridder, Willis, Corral, Zappe, Howell, Chris Oladokun (No. 241), Skylar Thompson (No. 247), and of course, Purdy (No. 262)* A bunch of garbage cans & DJ takes us to the playoffs for the 1st time in 9 years. -Next- 2023 Draft Class *Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis* DJ beat Bryce Young's ass! & the other 2 WOULD NOT have saved the team, or stopped NYG fans from being miserable. Since then, these "Smooth brain" fans have asked to sign Mitch Trubisky, Russell Wilson, & wanted to Start Drew Locke!!!! Get a clue!! & lastly, Draft Class 2024 NONE of the QB's they wanted so badly to tank for, ARE EVEN GOOD!!!!! Caleb- trash Jayden Daniels- trash JJ McCarthy, OUT FOR THE SEASON!! Drake Maye- MISSING IN ACTION Behind J. Fkn Brissette... & not to mention if we woulda got one of them, we wouldn't have a WR... STILLL!!!! Keep building the team!! Draft a solid solid real deal RUNNING BACK, on the cheap, & keep building the defense.. -Work J. The breakdown of the play at 5:40 is awesome, and actually demonstrates some of the deficiencies in the offense. A great example of thinking about what you want to accomplish and, if everyone understands the goal on a given play (QBs, WRs, etc.), then the execution will be much better and you are developing smarter players.

Daniel Jones has built up a ton of confidence when playing Washington and plays his absolute best. He doesn't have that confidence against any other team and plays a lot sloppier, generally speaking. It's hard for Greatness to Emerge out of Mediocrity, Kurt. You know this from your own inspiring career/path. I've always felt DJ is the new Joe Montana, i.e. the 2024 edition. Can do anything/everything. Is great team person re: culture. Gets into fights for his LINEMAN if DJ feels they've been disrespected. Goes FACE FIRST into linebackers/safety's at the goal line (first concussion). The Giants were right in what they did. I hated to lose Saquon. But DJ is the heir apparent to Eli -- the Giants will win with DJ leading the effort. Love the Mara's. They've tried so hard as have new GM and head coach so you know it's just a matter of time. Like the sun coming up in an hour. Thanks for all of the great Sunday's, Mara Famz and @giants. Also best media team in the league - Carl Banks maybe the best behind the mike ever. Better even than John Madden. We need Carl to drop his own football thing/game/ BANKS 2026 (Carl Banks all-NFL teams year after year). Thanks again may we never forget Wellington Mara.

Kurt I disagree with the analysis here at 19:11. Right then, that ball should be out to nabers on the flat. The DB hips shifted in after the jam and when his head is turned that flat is open. He hesitates, decides too late and then the scramble kills any chance of it working. Problem with Jones I have is his anticipation and ability to push the ball down the field. Why he can't do that or Daboll doesn't trust him is beyond me at this point in his career.

Why are u misleading people into thinking this simple 2022 1 side of field, throw to open guy on that side, or check down, is good veteran NFL QB play? It will not work against good Ds. Good Ds will jump routes when QB makes 1st look. This game plan is a regression because Jones can't execute 3 reads on both sides of field in 3 secs. Which Jones should be able to do, especially against Commanders.
