Can i apply for citizenship if i pleaded guilty to a DUI 2 years ago? 5 year probation, but it got terminated at 6 months. I got my green card 5 years ago. Im married to a US citizen

I have a public intoxication charge that I got recently. Am going to go to court to get the change reduced, what are my chances of getting citizenship so soon after the charge if it was one incident?

Hi Sir, according to USCIS implemented the decision in 2019 that two or more DUI convictions during the statutory period could affect an applicant’s good moral character determination. Should I be worried about if I only had one during last 5 years, the conviction is even reduced from DUI to Wet Reckless Driving, because of BAC was just right on 0.08%, no speeding no accident, probation early terminated. My employer could also provide a recommendation letter shows I am a good boy. My naturalization interview will be in next, thank you!

If you don’t mind could you elaborate the interview process? For a little background: I’ve got my first dui and was serving non reporting probation for 6 months(completed). It will be 3 years soon since the arrest. I’ve called bunch of immigration attorneys and they want to charge me almost 3-4 grand. I’m currently stuck on what I should do whether to apply by myself or go with the attorney route. We have similar incident except yours was past 5 yrs. and congratulations.

@@Humbletrader08 hello this upcoming June will be my 1 year since I put in my application. The current ETA says 3 months. Now Ive talked to my family lawyer and he said just go through with it alone and I should be 100% fine. I’ll update when I can.

If the DUI misdemeanor was 14 years ago, and there have been no other criminal charges, except for a speeding fine, will that affect a person’s chances to be accepted? And possibly deported?

You have to show good moral character 5 years prior to applying for citizenship. You should be fine after 14 years

are u US citizen or green card holder ? it may effect if you are green card but almost you will be fine
