Yeeeesssss it is so weird. I was speaking in tongues through prayer. I do not have the gift of prophecy. As far as I know, I may have a little bit of it, but I have released and allowed the expression of the Holy Spirit through tongues happen through my vocal cords. Cords. I believe that all Christians can speak in tongues but many simply do not. Not because they don't want to but a lot of times because they don't believe that they can. And I remember myself speaking in tongues and closing my eyes and just allowing the spirit to go at it. And finally a tune came out and I was just randomly singing. What sounded like an old Hebrew cadence. And I was able to think in my mind as though I was separate from my own vocal cords, and I was thinking in my mind whoa Is he right now singing in Hebrew???? Holy spirit is a person and that person lives in me.

Hello pastor David. Years ago a Bishop came and stood next to me and my children in church and said that not all can speak in tongues. We felt like he was talking to us as we had just come into christianity from an indian religion. This effected us and years down the line we still haven't received the gift of speaking in tongues. Thank you for clarifying that the bible says that ALL received the holy spirit and spoke in tongues. Please pray for me and my children that we will be baptized in the Holy spirit. It’s a blessing u can’t speak in tongue’s bro that’s a demonic language, straight from the pits of hell . To be able to speak that the drums having to be kicking , people has to be shaking & moving around aggressively and while that person is opening there self up for a demonic possession that s when the talking in tongue’s and shouting comes into play . I seen it before it mostly definitely a scary thing to witness . I’m tell u there nothing holy about that trust me .

I had been a Christian a long time and I was led to believe that speaking in tongues is a thing only those whom God choses to give will able to . Just one year ago this woman showed up to me and told me there is a gift God wants to give you and you been desiring this for so long . I thought it was a baby , so well one morning I am at the kutchen while listening to this woman speaking in tongues and interceding in prayer and suddenly I felt the warm presence engulfed my body and I satarted pray in language I don't understand . I was there crying and I felt the need to surrender my life to Christ. All I know it's a wonderful gift for my Spirit to cry out to God through tongues when I was attacked at night and I don't know what to pray . Yes the Holy Spirit is not limited , I desire to interpret tongues and be able to prophesy too not to obtain this to be proud but that I may able to use this for edification.

For those in the comments still looking for their language or doubting, if you haven't received your tongue from the Holy Spirit I recommend you watch a video called "Receive the Holy Spirit" by Derek Prince. I was a "Church goer" for 20+ years that didn't believe all disciples of Christ were supposed to receive the Holy Spirit but I watched that video and prayed the simple video at the end in faith and for the first time in 2 decades I was able to have a full tangible life changing encounter with the Holy Ghost. The only regret is the time I wasted in which I could have known him earlier. Don't be like me! The gift of the Holy Ghost is an iron sure promise from our Savior Jesus Christ. You are selling your Christian life short by not having your own personal direct line with God himself via the Spirit. God bless.

We dont always know what our soul and heart are crying out or communicating to our Lord. It may be a block that you are putting on yourself. If you don't want to focus on them it may hinder actually receiving. Because you have to "desire these gifts". You need to have a great desire and an open heart and trusting God will grant you

I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit when I sought for the power of God. But I did not speak in Tongues til yrs later. It was like I knew I had the gift but it never came out. After my husband’s aunt laid hands on me is when I spoke in Tongues while I was worshipping God at home.

The way I started speaking in tongues again (I spoke in tongues over 20 years ago but had backslid and stopped speaking in tongues) I obviously repented of all my sins then I made sure I had forgiven everyone that ever hurt me including myself, then I prayed to renounce every involvement I ever had with the enemy like horoscopes, tarot cards, going to psychics.. all that is from the devil and I used to go to them when I was backslided, so I renounced everything and then I would pray every morning for an hour asking God to give me the gift of tongues (I also prayed like I usually do for everyone and every aspect of life) but every day I would ask Him to help me speak in tongues.. then one day as I was praying..I realized I was saying syllables without trying.. Like my tongue was moving by itself.. I started crying! And started thanking God and continue letting the Holy Spirit use my tongue.. it was amazing! You will speak in tongues! Because God gives us the desires of our hearts when we hunger and thirst for Him! God bless you sister!

Thank you for sharing your testimony. When I first asked in church years ago the pastor told me to practice moving my tongue like a baby. I didn’t believe it came that way because tongues are a gift. Well, for me the resistance comes from being told that I have to speak in tongues. And I have to practice speaking in tongues and to open my mouth and make noise. Everyone around me was speaking at the same time and I didn't understand. Was told that God blesses tongue prayer over normal prayer. I was told that we will only speak in tongues in heaven. I was scolded and said I was prayed over for the gift of tongues and should be speaking in tongues by now! There was so much pressure to preform. I asked if this was something the Holy Spirit gives us or if it's something I cam activate by myself. 1 Corinthians 12 :11-12,14 Acts 2:4, as the Spirit gave. I have seen many strong men and women of the faith through Christ Jesus, lead and speak words of knowledge and bring a powerful Holy Spirit delivering message and more and they didn't speak in tongues. I was conflicted and confused. Do I believe the entirety of the Word of God is alive and active I do all the way. I think human beings have complicated things for people such as myself. I was told I had hidden sins(don't we all) Was not the case. Its possible that I am not really in the faith. Or saved. I don't tithe, I didn't get baptized, if you don't speak in tongues you don't have the Holy Spirit. You can't pray for anyone unless you pray in tongues. My prayers are without the power of the Holy Spirit. God moves swiftly when you pray in tongues. And so much more. Nobody ever responds when I ask questions. People have taken an authoritative position in other people's lives due to their personal experience and walk with God and face punching it as a given fact and truth. I can't walk around allowing myself or anyone else to compare their fruit to my walk with God. I believe that the Holy Spirit will give me the gift as He so chooses... Have I any clue what, how and when... Nope! But I can desire, pray and ask His will be done as it is written. ,

Sometimes well meaning believers put to much pressure on seekers to speak in " tongues" instead of letting them pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit first. When I went to a church I was aware of the presence of the Holy Spirit around me but sensed that the reason others were so joyful was that they must have what I was sensing around me in them. I went up to the altar call and told the altar worker that I wanted what I was sensing around me in me. He and one other altar worker took me back to a prayer room, and layed hands on me quietly praying for me as I knelt praying for the Lord to fill me with His Holy Spirit. I heard footsteps and the pastors voice telling me to stand up lift my hands and recieve the Holy Spirit. I stood up, lifted my hands and was filled from my ankles upward with what felt like a warm liquid. As the filling approached the top of my head I heard the pastor telling me to surrender my tongue to the Holy Spirit. I stopped thanking the Lord for answering my prayer, opened my mouth and started relaxing my tongue as a way of surrendering it to the Spirit. Suddenly I felt control of my tongue seized and I began to fluently speak in what I was to learn was called " tongues". The effect was staggering. Never had I felt such pure joy in my life. I was " beside myself" I was so happy. Now I knew why the pentecostals shouted, ran the aisles, and danced in the Holy Spirits' presence. Joy isn't just being happy it's being " beside yourself" you're so happy which causes you to act in ways you wouldn't if you were just happy about something.

@Mario Palma Just as physical birth is a process so is spiritual rebirth. I was aware of the Holy Spirit near me and I was filled with this Spirit before I ever recieved the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is recieved as the result of the Holy Spirit baptism. That is why when John the baptism said that the one to come after him would baptize with the Holy Spirit was so important. Under the old covenant the Spirit of God came upon the prophets, filled them ,and then departed for a time because God had not allowed man to recieve the Spirit on a permanent basis yet. Once prayed for and filled with the Holy Spirit we must surrender the last vestige of our will, our tongue, to the Holy Spirit because we can't tame( surrender) our tongue to the Spirit without His help to do so. When He does He takes control of our tongue and enables us to speak in the spiritual language, which our English translation calls " tongues". Once this happens it triggers the filling overflow, which is what Spirit baptism is, while at the same time the Holy Spirit joins with ours, becoming one. Now we have recieved the Holy Spirit and been " born of the Spirit" Overly eager, yet well meaning brethren, shouldn't be encouraging us to speak in "tongues", but pray to be filled with the Spirit until it occurs then to surrender our tongue to the Holy Spirit. When it happened for me I just opened my mouth and started relaxing my tongue as a way of surrendering it.

To answer your question, David, from my experience, it took me so long to speak in tongues because I didn't hear anyone explain it the way you did until I met the mother of Bayless Conley of Cottonwood Church. Actually, you explained it even better, but she helped open my mind. From what I saw when people would come forward to receive the baptism, I thought when the baptism happened . the person suddenly BURST INTO TONGUES without even trying. I saw this happen to my sister, a friend and some others. I expected my experience to be the same way. When I'd see some pastors egg on people to open their mouth and utter syllables, I thought it was "fake" baptism of the Spirit. That's why I didn't speak in tongues for many years, while wanting it so much. Only when Bayless' mother explained the whole thing to me did I finally decide to receive it by faith and speak in tongues by faith, believing that it's the Spirit praying through me.

Great teaching! A lot if confusion concerning speaking in " tongues" centers on the fact that speaking in " tongues" is a great gift but it doesn't qualify as one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit according to Pauls' definition of the gifts that not all believers have. Paul said that, " But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal( 1Cor.12:7). The purpose of the gifts is so that everyone hearing or seeing the gifts operate may be edified. But speaking in " tongues" as our private prayer language only edifies us. " He that speaketh in an an unknown tongue edifies themself"(1Cor.14:4).

Please remember, scripture defines scripture. Paul stated that when you speak in tongues you edify yourself, when you prophesy the tongues you edify and help the church. Then he says a spiritual gift is meant to help each other. Speaking in tongues is not meant to help each other, it's meant to help yourself and build yourself, the gift and ability to understand what you're saying. Edifies someone else. Else. Which obviously means speaking in tongues is not the spiritual gift. It's the understanding or the prophecy of tongues. Not everyone receives the gift that helps each other, as in the prophecy of tongues. But most certainly everyone receives speaking in tongues because everyone has the ability to edify oneself. Oneself. The Holy Spirit Spirit takes up residence in us to build us up and show us the way and to slowly change us and turn us! And he says in fact that's speaking in tongues does this.

I been told spiritually I have an angel assigned to me and the biggest mission it has is to help me with autistic/disability problems and I do sometimes sense it, I prayed for it too to God. I got a lot of confirmations of God that it was of him. I’m thankful to see how God always supplies us with all beneficial stuff that will do us good 😊 Jesus is best of all though. Just pointing out an example that God supplies all that does Good. A miracle to do with a phone charger was also answered this afternoon

Well, a bright being with long brown hair is what comes to mind but not sure about the actual appearance. It’ll remind me to pray to God, give God worship, continue walking with Jesus, and sometimes comfort me, and pretty much anything God asks it to do. It’s a ministering spirit who ministers me while inheriting salvation, Given directly from God to guide me over obstacles. You think that’s neat, there are a whole lot more supernatural things God Jesus and the Holy Spirit can do.

I have been to a church service where people just spoke in tongues all at once and the pastor too praying in tongues. No interpreter. I’m glad this pastor is teaching the guidelines for tongue speaking. It can really get out of hand.

I never said tongues should be forbidden I repeated what GOD says in HIS Bible I repeat without ignorance which is always used as an attack that without an interpreter there is no point to in talking to your brethren in tongues because they will have no clue what you are talking about which is basic common sense but to speak in tongues in secret when there is no interpreter I canner make myself clearer and I'm not speaking in tongues

How do i know if im praying in tongues. Whenever I here someone pray in tongues its always the same repeated words or sentences. This just makes me highly skeptical about it.

Think of it like when you are going to vomit, it just begins to flow naturally from your stomach up to your mouth, tounges feels very similar the first time you do it. Holy Spirit will guide you.

The day you open your mouth and you release the sounds of your voice and let your tongue move and your lips and your your syllables come together. Just believing that whatever that sounds like nonsense to your ears. The holy spirit is assuming control of its meaning. Jesus is the word. He is the manifested language of God. Let Jesus assume the sounds of your vocal cords in this natural world. But first you have to start by, and act of most Holy faith, of opening your lips and making a sound and beginning to just let your lips and sounds talk. Talk. Do not worry if you're repeating a word. Do not worry if you're repeating the same sounds. Do not worry about if you're singing or how it should sound or if others have said these words or not or if you can translate them All of that is you still trying to have control. Speaking in tongues is the ultimate surrender of control. And the ultimate reliance on the Holy spirit that you truly believe is within you and will take control. That's the best way to explain it. I have had times where I found the Holy Spirit repeating the same word over and over for 15 minutes straight. Then I found out that what he was doing was speaking the healing of my father in law into existence. You see, my father-in-law was diagnosed with a cancer on something in his gut and I forgot what it was. I forgot what it was because this word kept repeating over and over and over when I was speaking in tongues. I did not even know this was happening to my father-in-law. Until finally the diagnosis came out, after he went to the hospital falling out sick. And that very night those strange tongue word repeated over and over again. Out of curiosity, I seem to have been able to spell out the word in Google and it came back as an ancient Hebrew word for gut. And another word was for healing. The doctor looked at his gut the next morning and found nothing there at all as though someone got it wrong from the beginning. They didn't get it wrong. The Holy Spirit was praying for my father-in-law through my lips. I thought it was nonsense, nothing is nonsense to Him. So @blackwatch4709 let go of all the concerns, hand them to God, don't worry about anyone who has ever spoke n tongues around you. , I dare you to open your mouth and trust in God. There is something I never hear anyone talk about that I don’t understand…when we pray in tongues is The Holy Spirit only intervening for us personally or can we pray in tongues for other people, for our country, etc? Do I just tell Holy Spirit what I want to pray about before I start praying in tongues? Why doesn’t anyone talk about this?

When a person speaks in an unknown tongue for the first time; he is not exercising a Spiritual Gift, he is receiving the giver of the gifts. Paul says this about unknown tongues in, 1Co 14:21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. 1Co 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. in other words, there are two kinds of tongues those that can be understood and those that cannot be understood. Those that can be understood are called prophesying, and those that cannot be understood are a sign to let a person know without a doubt that they have received the Holy Ghost. This is to dispel all unbelief about receiving the Holy Ghost. In this sense, it serves the unbeliever who doesn't know if he has the Holy Ghost or not. Paul gives reference to, ISA 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. ISA 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. The rest is the Holy Ghost baptism. Reverse 28:11 to Matthew 11:28 and Jesus says, Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. if a person is not repented, and baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, they will not receive the Holy Ghost. Jesus said, "You must be born of the water and of the Spirit or you cannot enter the kingdom of God. The Holy Ghost is the kingdom of God.

No. The holy spirit is the requirement for salvation. And the only way to receive the holy spirit is to see and believe in Jesus as the Messiah Son of God and your personal Savior. And if you are sincere, the holy spirit will enter you. And begin to start to change your soul. I never heard my grandmother speak in tongues but she knew of it and I know that she is saved because she believes and yields Jesus Christ. Everything she did. She thought about God first. She thought about Jesus first, and she believed that Jesus lived in her Earth through the Holy Spirit. She spoke with him, she abided it in him. Gifts are not a requirement..... Their gifts for you to have and to use because the requirement was met 😊 they will benefit you in your life, but you don't have to use the gift. Anyone who tries to guilt you into to releasing tongues is wrong.

Can every believer pray in tongues? Yes, specifically personal tongues. Not, necessarily prophetic or proof tongues. The Church I attend definitely believes speaking in tongues. There is so much more after Salvation (getting saved).

Just want to know, where are all the interpreters? I have heard people speak in tongues before, with no interpretation. So if an interpreter is required, where are they? I have never heard of someone having the gift of interpretation. Only speaking in tongues. Please help me to understand.
