We have a 75-gallon tank of mollies & platys that, of course, gets seriously overrun since they're both such prolific breeders. When we got our energetic peacock slider Tank Girl (kept in a separate 55-gallon tank) we thought we'd feed her all of our excess fish. The first few (of middle size) that we dropped in her tank were quickly gobbled up. So, we tried adding a larger number (about 10), and found that while Tank Girl initially got some, most (even the tiny ones) learn to avoid her. She intermittently chased them around for a day or two, then gave up and they now seem to coexist relatively peacefully. We've added more fish at various times, and while the turtle still gets a few out of each new addition, most end up getting ignored after that. So, we've concluded that it's simply fish numbers (and the turtle's weak perseverance) that are key rather than any of the other factors you mentioned, and that Tank Girl is not going to be our solution to excess fishies since they multiply too quickly for us to just give her a few at a time. Instead, we stick lots of the mid-sized fish in our 5,000-gallon tank (it's built into our basement) of large koi, who will slowly and completely consume them over a few days. So, LLYT, if you actually want to keep fish with your turtles, then set up a breeder tank of (presumably) any variety that will multiply readily and figure that a lot of them will survive with the turtles.

Thanks for the info. I do currently have a guppy breeding tank for just this feeding purpose. I've found that it really depends on the turtle. Give 15 guppies to Moses, they are gone in a day or two. Give 15 to crackers they will stick around for a while. My video series really comes down to finding fish that will almost never be food. Convicts are almost too good. Hi, a question if you have time, what conditioner do you use with water changes etc please in the sense of catering to both turtle and fish? I saw earlier you used reptisafe, I’ve tried to read around this question and have come away fairly uncertain. Help please if you can

I have 6 Neons (from an original 14 😬) and 2 Glowlights that are in an open 75-gallon with less decor than yours. They seem to be just fine. 😊

It looks like there aren’t nearly enough hidey holes or live plants for keeping fish as well :/ I’d be a very stressed out fish in there… it has to be a turtle AND fish-friendly tank (not just turtle and fish are an after thought). Give them a fighting chance!

Our red ear slider are tetras. We put some jewel cichlids in with him he tried at first but now they swim right around each other. The fish are aggressive so they will hit him if he moves at them to fast.

Cichlids can be quite aggressive! Glad they are working out just make sure no one is getting too harrassed!

I recently got a pleco for my 75 gallon, sadly my turtle won’t leave him alone. I’m not sure what to do. Any advice ?

Just added a rainbow shark to my 100 gallon tank they cool with each other I added a second one thinkin the first died now I see them all the time chasing each other or swimming all cool claiming thier territory and turtles leave them alone

I've had 7 larger goldfish with my slider for over a year now... He's 2 years old and has kinda grown up with them but I'm waiting for the dead half a fish...😜

Love your videos! I need help with my tank. I changed my turtle April (From TMNT) HAHA to a 55 gallon tank and the water became a bit cloudy on day 2. What can I do to change this? I used water conditioner when setting the tank up so I'm not sure what I did wrong. Any recommendations?

If it is a brand new tank you will need to cycle it (let beneficial bacteria balance out the ammonia and nitrite buildup in the tank)! This can take weeks if you let it happen naturally. If you have an old filter use it or add the bio media from to your new filter to speed up the process. Do partial water changes regularly. Thanks for the comment and good luck!

Your turtle is so chill! My Tortuga kicks and bites at anything that comes near him. Are females more docile?

My larger female Moses is anything but docile. However when it comes to general aggression, especially between other turtles, makes can be more aggressive. But really it all depends on your specific turtle, just like humans!

Hey, new to your video and I need some help. I added around 20 guppy-like feeder fishes to my super aggressive red slider and he began his feast. I am worried all the fishes will get caught by him and he eat too much and overeat. I gave the fish plenty of place to hide but my red slider just seem to big and fast and I am having anxiety attack watching them. Please advise!!

Hello! I wouldn't worry about over-eating unless you keep putting 20 guppies in for a long time. If guppies always get eaten, you could get a few less next time. Otherwise time to try a new fish that is better at staying away from you slider! Thanks for the comment :)

You should of separated the convict cichlids so they could still keep their young and also not stress out the turtle

Fair, however not much I can do with more cichlids... better to separate the genders for my setups, great fish though.
