I had this one and it was great, but had problems with the impeller and motor. Now using the Seachem 110. Same idea. Has worked fine and it self primes. The Fluval wouldn’t self prime so it’s not great if there is a power outage or when doing water changes. I have mine on a 55 gallon for a smaller turtle.

It's can be a very interesting additional filter. I have huge turtles (approx. 4-5 kg) and I have an external Eheim Xperience 350 / or bigger Oase external pond filter in each of cca 700l aquarium with a large platform. Plus each external filter have pre-filter. Even so, I cannot avoid manual sludge removal daily. This hanging filter can be a great addition to an external filter that is easy to clean. I will look it up in the store and try it. It can also be also a suitable supplement after cleaning the external filters before the biological filtration is started and for smaller turtles. I think I forgot to use your product link to purchase this through Amazon but the one I received actually came with three additional media filters (ceramic, charcoal, and bioballs)! I was surprised. I had already bought individual packs of ceramic media but it was a nice touch.

I have just ordered one... have two elderly RES in a large 2'x4.75'x18' tank, separated (females) and have been slogging along with 2 old RENA filstarts... so made the big expenditure. Also love that the piping is black, not clear, so "algae proof". Can't wait for the delivery. also getting a filter with the anti algae uv light. thank you! Learned so much in this video... have had RES for 25 years...

In case no one else said it, when you are doing a glue up, sprinkle a little salt on the glue. This will help keep it from sliding around so easily. Old wood worker trick. 😉

If you do have a filter that needs priming with a button. The easiest way is to fill the filter itself with water first put the lid on, hook everything up, and then use your garden hose on Jette to push water through the filter in all the way out the other side. You only need to do it for a few seconds and the whole system is prime instantly.

Wuick question do goy have a video on which uvb lights you use dor the basking area. Have a RES and use a hear bulb and uvb bulb. Uvb bulb is on a timer ans the hear bulb is on 24 7. The heat bulb is red so it doesnt give too much light at njght.

best success i've had with plants in my turtle tank are luck bamboo stalks. super hard to kill, and can be completly submerged. if the turtle bites or claws at them, it doesn't matter, it takes work to kill bamboo. i'm waiting on a shipment now for the new tank!

bob my red eared slider is 35 this year! she just got a 60 gallon tank upgraded from a 55. will have to upgrade again when i get more room. i stream her sometimes on my videos. i haven't streamed the new tank yet. i will get on that this week!

I placed a screen (used to cover the gutters) over the ramp and now my large 10 in turtles can climb the ramp much easier.

I gave my boy some bushes in the background. But unfortunetly my turtle only swimming and looking on it and from the day I stick a backround my turtle dont want to come outside, I mean for basking zone. I have a blue baby pool set up for my 20 year old red eared slider in an enclosed garden (summer only) and was looking for a heating mechanism for slightly chilly nights. She prefers being outside and is more comfortable laying eggs out there, but you definitely don't want to leave domesticated red eared sliders out when it dips below 70 at night. The water in small containers cools VERY quickly. You've basically confirmed my fears -> there's nothing in between pond de-icers and indoor aquarium heaters. Also, to further support what you're saying, you have to consider how hungry predators are in the early spring and then later in the fall. Their food supply drops and they start thinking outside the box. :) This happened to my turtle once by what we think was a bird of prey, based on the position of the scratches on her shell...thankfully she survived. Lesson learned the hard way.

Would a fifty-five gallon tank be good to have danios with my turtle?

I have an adult sized giant danio that keeps killing the feeder the fish for my turtle.

I just upgraded my stinkpot musk turtle enclosure to a 40 gallon breeder. He loves it. Plenty of room for him to explore. I added play sand, pebbles, a large driftwood and some large rock pieces. Also added rosy red minnows. Not too many as i dont want them to overwhelm the tank to where they end up becoming the centerpiece. Planning to add some ghost shrimps as well. Both rosy red minnows which is just a variant of the fathead minnow and ghost shrimp can be found in the same natural habitat as the stinkpot musk turtle. It looks very naturalistic! Not to mention, the rosy red minnows can eat algae and cyanobacteria. The ghost shrimps will also help contribute to minimizing algae in the tank. Your tank setup is very nice btw!

I wish this was around a couple years ago. I have had every basking platform out there totaling way more than what this one basker cost. The last above tabk basket i bought was useless once I upgraded to a 40gal tank. I searched all over trying yo find one that would fit the new tank. I did find one similar to this one, from Thrive I believe, but the space between the ramp and basking areas was too small to fit an adult RES. I all over the web searching turtle blogs, etc. Finally found this on a reddit post. If you are a true turtle owner, not one who gets rid of the turtle after it gets too big and starts to stink up the entire house, this is a great investment. Turtles habit supplies can get expensive when you try to cut corners it can add up. From experience this is well worth the price. Yes you can make one yourself but the quality of this one is top notch and the fact that it fits multiple size tanks makes it even better. Some people spend more on shoes 🤷🏽‍♀️. As a turtle owner thats here for long run this is mkney well spent. This product is a lifesaver and well worth it.

Don't throw that old lid O-ring away. It looked fine and you have a backup! I'm glad you found the problem, if it had been a parts kit situation, I wouldn't buy the unit. Putting filter media in wrong pbasket, cool - live and learn. Filter pump failing in less than 7 to 10 years and needing a service kit, I would pass.
