I used to keep 2 goldfish and female bettas in a tank. They were doing just fine. Then for some reason I decided to add a male and a female guppy. The female was immediately, within a few seconds, right before my eyes eaten by a goldfish... When I tried to look for the male, I saw it being swallowed by a betta. 😭 I nearly quit fish-keeping after seeing this horror movie scene. I felt like being a guppy killer. Felt really guilty. Glad the kids weren't looking at the time.

My tank was filled with guppy and mollies then i added white carp and gold fish, now there are only 4 to 5 molly and 0 guppy I was thinking that my guppies could not survived cold, but now i got the reason 😢

I had a Oscar for 10+ years he just recently passed but he lived for 9 years with two feeder goldfish he never ate them I put a dozen in his tank he ate 9 one died an the last two are still kicking an have gotten massive didn’t even think gold fish feeder got that big never had one for more than a hour normally🤣but these two he never touched an now going on 10 years they are about 6inches lol so I’m thinking of putting some guppies with the gold fish

I'm planning on keeping a trio of guppies in with my baby common goldfish. Figure at first they will feed on fry, eventually I'll be feeding them full grown..... Hopefully.

How about a single-tail common goldfish tank mates? 75gal - any suggestions? I inherited Buddy and want to take care of him, but would love something else in this aquarium as well. Thank you!

Hi. Single tail goldfish are fast swimmers and grow large. They will out compete most other fish, including fancy goldfish, for food. I would really only recommend other, single tail goldfish including comets and shubunkins. I hope that helps 👍🏻

Some people also have very successful experience keeping paradise fish (macropodus), a subtropical betta relative, with common goldfish. Both are well at room temperature, and both are omnivores, the paradise fish preferring a slightly higher protein content, around 40% or a bit more. However, it's best to introduce them from a young age so that they get used to each other. Paradise fish grown alone, like bettas, can become aggressive to other fish. An adult goldfish, on the other hand, may try to eat a newly introduced paradise fish as it is significantly larger.

Unfortunately, that does happen. Some see it as a good way to keep the Guppy population under control, but it depends on your perspective

@@FishKeepingAnswers I feed my goldfish duckweed from my outdoor planter pond with guppies, sometimes some fry slip in. I tried to keep them in the tank but they got eaten after a while. There is 2 other goldfish in the pond but the layer of duckweed on the top is established enough so the goldfish don't eat it all and the fry hide in the roots.

My pond is swarming with fry. Buy dense plants for the back to hide in and or buy a bigger tank
