There were points where Harrys acting could use some work, but for a lot of it, Harrys acting was very powerful and emotional!

A critic said that Harry wasn't bad. He's just not ready for leading roles. Being paired with 2 talented, experienced actors made his inexperience visible. I think he did well.

“I’m not a huge Harry Styles Stan.” Continues to describe the lengths you’d go to to be with him if given the chance. I love it. 😂

I love how you didn't approach this in a judgmental way. You really picked up on on the layers right away and gave deeply flawed characters the benefit of the doubt. I really appreciate your insights. I'm so glad a story like this is being told.

It's so sad that the queer movies pretty much always have sad endings. But i guess a movie about that time period could only ever have been sad. I haven't seen the whole movie (because it's too sad😭) but in the scenes that I've seen i loved the cast and i think Harry did a great job. I loved your commentary and I'm happy I stumbled upon your channel, subscribed:)

Great reaction! I think Harry did a pretty good job for this movie. The nuances he added like in the scene where he is drunk. It was great. I think he has the potential to become an amazing actor. The only problem My Policeman faced in my opinion is that it was premiered too close to Don't Worry Darling and the media shitstorm that it was kind of permeated My Policeman and some people and critics did not take it seriously unfortunately. I loved your comments! ❤

I agree with everything you said! I really liked the movie. I feel so bad for all of them, but I’m also sooo angry at all of them (except for Patrick). But that’s the strength of this story, they all were pretty terrible to each other, but you can’t blame them for it, because it’s understandable considering how much they’re suffering.

I haven’t read the book but apparently even though it’s called My Policeman, Tom’s pov isn’t in the book. That’s one of the criticisms. Also, a lot of people think Harry’s performance is lacking, especially when compared to everyone else in the film. I don’t think he was terrible but you can see a difference in skill level. I AM a Harry stan but I’m not one of those delusional ones that thinks he needs an award every time he says hello. I can be appreciative of him but not think he’s the best of the best at everything he does.

I really like your videos. I really enjoy seeing how your feelings evolve as the film or series progresses. I would like to add some personal thoughts that I had after reading the book "My policeman". In fact Marion is Tom's sister's childhood friend. So they have been crossing paths for a long time. When the war ends and Tom is preparing to become a policeman Marion realises that she has feelings for him. Tom's sister has been trying for years to tell her that Tom is "not like other men" (her words) but she doesn't want to hear it 🙉 convinced that he will make her happy. For his part, Tom, who is not attracted to women, certainly thinks that she is the best person to marry in this society which still penalises homosexuality. Tom also feels pressure from his superiors who tell him that he MUST be married to move up in the police force. He is so trapped in this imposed pattern that he convinces himself that Marion is the one for him. But he can't separate himself from Patrick, who is and will remain the love of his life. When Patrick is arrested and the lawyer begins to broach the subject of Tom (by reading Patrick's diary) Tom voluntarily leaves the police force (a job he had always dreamed of doing) so that the investigation does not go too far and he doesn't go to prison too. I think that Marion welcoming Patrick into their home is a form of redemption for her (for sending him to prison with her letter) even though she puts the photo of her marriage to Tom in front of Patrick's bed 🙄😤 As Harry Styles said in an interview, this film is a devastating story about wasted time. 💔🥺 I have some concerns with Marion's character 😉 but the 6 actors are for me extraordinary, so invested in their roles that they interpret brilliantly. Last little personal opinion: I find that Linus Roache and Harry Styles have a very similar voice and this gives a strong emotional depth for me 😉 Sorry for being so chatty but this topic is important and very close to my heart when you still see all the countries where being publicly gay is punishable by prison #quatar and when you see so many people all over the world can't for multiple reasons come out 🥺💔

Thank you so much for this comment and the insight!! While I liked the movie I felt at points that it was a bit rushed and imagined that the book would expand on certain things more so your comment really confirms that for me!

I love this movie, but I read the book before the movie came out and the way they made Marion look only like a victim annoyed me so much because in the book she was warned multiple times by people she was close to about Tom. I don't know I despised her character coming out of the book and the movie tried to make me feel different about her but knowing everything from the book I couldn't change my mind about her.

This is what happened with me too, just watched it the other day and my partner got me the book the same day. I’m not too far in it yet but it’s great so far. It’s all written through Marion’s perspective so far (could change at some point but just haven’t gotten there yet)

Love your analysis and moments of humor. I just watched the movie today. I think the ideas and the subject matter is really beautiful and complicated and tragic. Harry Styles is of course nice to look at, but I do wish his acting was better... there are definitely some important scenes where I felt his performance felt flat. I really enjoyed your perspective on this, it actually made me reconsider my initial reaction to the movie. Just subscribed and am looking forward to getting more of your perspective/commentary on films, shows, etc.

Harry said it was about wasted time. I agree. Due to his internalized homophobia, I think Tom blamed Patrick for what happened and tried to deny his feelings and true self so he missed the time he could have been with Patrick after being gay was no longer illegal.

Just to be fair, Styles was ok. I mean I'm not an actor so who am I to criticise. Bu in general, the story was pretty generic in a sense that we've all seen he premise before. But given the period and setting that it is, I worked pretty well. Coming back to Harry Styles, this was his third movie after "Dunkirk" and "Don't Worry Darling", so give him time to develop his acting chops.

I understand why some men feel like they have to beard. The problem is the lying. She should be told the truth from the start so she can choose whether or not she will be involved. I thought it was well done. Full disclosure-- I'm a big Harry fan but I thought he was very good in this. I really enjoyed your reaction. I will subscribe to your channel. 🙂

Love your reaction to such a powerful film. There is another film that deals with forbidden gay love called "Priest" (1994) which stars Linus Roache - who played Older Tom in "My Policeman." Definitely worth checking out.

I'm really sorry for Patrick from all of them. You can see that he actualy loved and still loves Tom, he asked about him in prison, he asked about him after stroke; he questioned fairness of Tom's marriage to the Marion. About her - I was so freaking angry at her for reporting Patrick... She should confront Tom with what she found out but she let her anger take the lead and send Patrick throu hell of prison. At least she regreted it. I don't know if it's Harry's acting or just problem with Tom character but I can't feel his love for Patrick, esspecialy in younger years. Tom just cuted him off completly after Patrick was arested and it seems that he wasn't interested anymore. I got the impression that it was only **x for him. But then older version of Tom shows some emotions and I don't know... I don't feel sympathy for this character. This movie isn't bad but it lacks something for me. We don't know what happened through all these decades; why Tom and Marion don't have children; how they knew about Partick being in hospital? But after all images are beautiful, story is sad and reality of old days is terrible to even think of. Nice reaction and commentary of yours 😊

I don't like the way Tom treated Marian she deserved better what I'm saying is if he loved Patrick he should've let go of Marian its kinda upsetting how Marian just loved him and earned nothing because she was a victim .thats why i think Tom should've stopped his relationship with Marian when he started falling for Patrick
