I knew he did amazing when I was watching the movie bc I just about forgot it was Harry Styles... and I worried that maybe it was just me bc I'm aware of by biases toward him. I brought my grandma and my aunt who basically know nothing about him except for I've been his fan for a decade, they said the same thing. He acted the character very well and it's sad how many people are taking that away from him bc all they see is the pop star without giving him a chance. He acted in MP way better than DWD.

This is great news. I'm glad he was able to up the game in his MP performance over his DWD one. I think a ton of people just want him to fail as an actor because he is so successful in music, so no matter what he does in acting, they will find a way to pick it apart and demean his efforts. But the fact remains he's a shrewd performer and did a wonderful job imo in 2 out of 3 movies now. And we all know he wasn't in the best environment with DWD and didn't have the best director for that film. There was reportedly a lot of on set unprofessionalism.

It's not just you or any bias you may have had; I saw MP not too long after it came out simply because of the subject matter. I'd heard people were being critical of Harry's performance but that was neither here nor there for me as I've only been a fan of 1D for about three months now, so I went in completely unbias. I remember thinking back to the things I'd heard beforehand and couldn't believe they'd been talking about the same performance; Harry was wonderful and very convincing as Tom. He emoted everything the character was silently struggling with so well that I forgot he was Harry Styles -The Musician, he was only poor tortured Tom whom my heart broke for (and then Patrick, OMG

I loved how in every scene with Dawid, H's eyes go from his eyes, to his mouth and back to his eyes. This is important because it shows one's desire towards the other. Once I have seen this, I cannot unsee it. Loved your review ♡

I also thought it was a very good film. Harry did a great acting job. I forgot who he really was in real life while watching it. I’ll be watching it again. Thank you AD once again. Love your work 😊

Thanks for your support love :) I was able to get immersed in this world thanks to the director and cinematographer and amazing acting. And Harry was wonderful. I totally forgot he was Harry too, which is a great sign of his skill.

I feel like the reason old tom is angry at Patrick and refuse to see him is because of a few reasons. First of all, he is angry about himself for causing all these pain in Patrick’s life who he has loved so much. Because of that, he can’t bear and would rather not to see the state Patrick is in. On a more selfish note, His saviour complex is very obvious from being the policeman, his righteous values, etc. So the fact that he caused all this woe to another human being, let alone the one he loved, goes against with his identity and core beliefs. He doesn’t want to face the truth, in this case Patrick, that destroys who he thinks he is as a person - this god-like hero who always do good to people. Secondly, he is angry about the wasted time. Like Harry said in multiple interviews, Tom could have done something to reach out after he got out of prison but he was too cowardice, too passive and too indecisive that he left it for too long. So when Tom saw Patrick again, all he can see is the what-ifs. What a life they could have led if he was more brave and opened minded. Thirdly, Tom could also blame Patrick for not reaching out to him. Yes this might sound absolutely spoiled since Patrick was the one who has suffered actual physical pain and lost everything including his dignity. But in their relationship, Patrick has always been the lead. The one who initiate contacts, suggest activities for them. So maybe Tom has waited for a long time once Patrick was out of the prison. And when he didn’t reach out in the end, Tom might felt betrayed or forgotten. It wouldn’t be a stretch from Tom’s character. The way I see it, Tom’s anger is not directed towards Patrick at all, it is towards himself. He has spent his whole life living in the conflict between his traditional values and his sexuality. Remember, he is a police officer who committed, at that time, a serious crime. I don’t think he ever forgave himself for that.

I don't know about you but for me it's actually scary the way he tried/tries to understand his lover and himself in this film 🥺 like the man played Zayn's role and saw another man played his role? PS: i don't know how to feel about it 😭 and yes Brighton looked fantastic as well

Harry loves deeply, wildly, and unrelentingly. I feel like that is so noble and heartfelt of him to try to understand Z that deeply and play a character so similar to him in some ways. It's just too amazing for words. It's like the ultimate expression of love, being willing to go to such lengths to understand a person you care for.

Lmaooo yes. The bar was so low for him to show genuine interest in a movie after the DWD interviews, but he still went above and beyond to show how deeply invested he was in My Policeman, of his own accord. No one forced him, he sought it out himself and had so many deep, thought-provoking things to say about it.

He was amazing, definitely this film means a lot to him, he was so persistent and the story in some way is similar to what he's facing (society, sexuality, relationship with other men...). I'm so proud and I was crying like crazy while imaging Zarry...😔 It's masterpiece of course because it's Harry Styles and others where just brilliant 😍😍😍

I love this movie and have watched it alot. One thing about Harry he acts with his eyes which is beautiful. I agree with you as they never really explained how Patrick got a stroke and how Marion found out that he needed help and brought him to the house and how Tom didn't want to have anything to do with him. Also Marion left because she thought that Patrick would get well if Tom took care of him. I do wish they would continue with the movie to see what happens to Tom and Patrick. Can't wait for part 2 of your video.

Thank you for this review. You have such an beautiful way with words, which I already knew because of your books. You said everything I feel and how I see the movie too! Harry did really amazing and I saw him truly as Tom and not as Harry Styles. He was a very important piece in this movie. I loved him and was very touched by his performance. The script was indeed not what it could have been. But, the book also didn't had a heavy plot and gave away much what happened in those 40 years apart. Can't wait for part two. ❤️❤️

Thanks AD. I always look forward to your analysis. And I totally agree about all you said. I've also seen DWD and liked Harry's performance in that as well although I admit it has big plot holes. I was wondering if someday when you have time and if you want to of course, would you watch DWD and tell me what you think of his performance in that as well. I f not that's ok as well. Love you❤

You pronounce older Tom's surname as Roache as in cockroach. Lol. Linus Roache is the son of a very famous soap actor here in the UK. His dad William, has played Ken Barlow in Cornation Street since its first episode first broadcast in 1960. As for the movie I haven't watched it yet, but I have it downloaded on Prime. Your review has made me want to watch it right away. Thank you.

I especially loved that scene where Julia ENDED Marion and called out her bs and homophobia. When Marion called homosexuality "wrong" and "unnatural", Julia made her see how her so-called "natural" heterosexual marriage was so superficial and devoid of substance. I feel that, in that moment Marion was truly speechless because she knew she was wrong and Julia's words had truly impacted her. Two of the people who were close friends (Patrick and Julia) of hers were actually the type of people she thought were "disgusting" and "wrong". In the book, she even admits that she wishes she could apologize to Julia. Julia and Marion are even closer in the book (Legit thought old Marion would later find Julia and end up dating her lmao) , I wish they had more scenes in the movie.

I will just say that this movie made me cry. Also, I had the impression that Tom began his affair with Patrick before he had married Marian, and asked her to marry him so that she could be a beard.

To be honest. The film was flavorless, and unmemorable, and it feels rushed. Harry’s acting was ok. Nothing remarkable. The story itself is tragic, but I couldn’t feel the tragedy while watching the film.

You should really make a discord server that's like about/ for zarry and/ or zarry shippers. I'm apart of so many 1D servers but a lot of them are dominated my Larry's and not just normal Larrys but the blue greeners. I can't find one server that's not dominated by Larry's and would honestly love to have one were I don't overwhelmed and can't really speak or else ill be attacked for not shipping Larry. (Happened once when I pointed out some things that made Larry weird/ wrong. I'm not making that mistake again)
