If you can handle the slightly larger Swingweight, the best string I know of to “calm down” a slightly erratic stringbed is Grapplesnake Tour M8 1.25. Really helped me come around to the Wilson Shift 99, which can also be just a smidge erratic.

I played 3 sets with it today. I use a 23 GP and had been playing my best tennis with it lately. But the Tour offers so many different things that help my game and make it easier for me to use. Yes, a few balls will sail when you don’t hit the sweet spot but you will hit some devastating forehand missiles and bomb serves too. My backhands are improved due to the help you get from this stick. Throw in the sound you hear when you smack a forehand is also pretty cool. It’s looking like a switch for me.

Nice review and great strokes. If the Gravity is swinging heavier than its swing-weight, then it is probably quite polarised, which makes sense given the teardrop shape. It could be interesting to try a few grams around the middle of the racket, like at 5 & 7 in the hoop, or 4&8 for some stability too. Just 1-2gs at each point should make a noticeable difference. Yes the swing-weight will increase, but the hoop should move more naturally.

Could be a twistweight issue too. The Gravity line has relatively high twistweights, typically 14 or more (to achieve that "massive sweet spot"). Unfortunately, too much twistweight can make a racquet feel sluggish. The Wilson Blade 98 is a low twistweight racquet (

Hey Tan. I just switched from the head gravity pro 2023 to the yonex vcore 98 7th gen because I wanted a more forgiving racquet. But with the upcoming release of this gravity tour 98, my timing couldn’t have been worse. It looks like the racquet I have been looking for a few months now. I still love my vcore 98, but I’m wondering how these two frames compare (even if I know that you don’t like the vcore that much). Thanks and great video as always 💪
@tantennis
@tantennis Ай бұрын
Hi, I think Vcore 98 is a more balanced racket. It’s more controllable and give a good amount of power/spin. It’s just a bit too muted I’m pretty sure Gravity 98 wins on that matter.
@vickip4111
@vickip4111 Ай бұрын
I went from the 1st gen Head Gravity Tour 100 (18x20) to the Head Extreme Tour (98). I also have the current version of the V-Core 98. I love the Head Gravity Tour 100 in everything except the net play....it just feels too trampoline with the volleys. The control on the racquet is great with a pretty open string pattern for a 18x20. I wanted a smaller head size to avoid the trampoline effect at the net, so I switched to the Extreme Tour, which is solid at the net, however the control is not like the Gravity. I personally like the Extreme Tour more than the VC98 because it has better control. The string pattern on the VC98 is wider, and I have to string that racquet at a higher tension and with stiffer strings, like Confidential or Super Toro. I can't wait for this new Gravity Tour 98 to come out...its what I've been waiting for. I'm hoping it is a little more controlled than the Extreme Tour. And I love the new paint scheme on the Gravity 98...that alone will raise my game a level or two (in my head).

If you’re having a problem with control on the Gravity98 why don’t you just string it tighter? Makes a big difference. I had a similar issue with a bit of the trampoline effect so I just kept increasing every time I restrung to test.
@tantennis
@tantennis Ай бұрын
I did strung it tighter from 46 lbs to 50 lbs. Now still have to go higher than that. I just want to point out that control on this racket is not comparable to the Blade and it’s launchy, at the same string and tension.

So comparatively to the Percept 100D, is the Gravity Tour 98 even less manoeuvrable then the Percept as the Percept isn’t exactly the most gracious frame through the air

@@tantennis I actually think the 2024 Pure Strike 98, Blade Pro 98, and the Gravity Tour 98 are more spiritual competitors than Pure Aero? What do you think?
@tantennis
@tantennis Ай бұрын
@@amirjon it feels completely different rackets. Flex is way different, as well as constructions. Let’s say Aero 98 is developed from a firm thick beam spin frame but wants more control. Gravity 98 is developed from a soft thin beam control frame but wants more power, spin. Yes I think power can be compared with Aero 98, but hit one ball and I forget about the Aero 98. It’s more of a Blade, Pure Strike kinda rackets imo.

Haven’t hit with the 98, but already assuming it’s the most disappointing update ever. As someone who was sad to move away from Gravity to the Blade in search of a more manoeuvrable control frame - I always wished there was a grav 98. This sounds nothing like a gravity. More like a pure aero competitor? Or do you think it’s like the other rackets in the Gravity line?
@tantennis
@tantennis Ай бұрын
@macattack78 I think it’s more of a pure strike competitor but better spin. You may like it, it still has gravity features in it and I think it’s maneuverable enough, just not to the Blade level.

@macattack78 I'm in the same boat tbh. GPro did wonders with my play. It made me commit 100% and I've improved a lot thanks to it. But at a recreational level it absolutely destroys my arm after a first set. 98" 305g sounded way too perfect, but there're way too many conflicting reviews so at this point I don't even know what to believe.

@@tantennis HEAD has had a long tradition of reusing their string drill patterns. (“No need to reinvent the wheel” philosophy). Seemingly, once they’re satisfied that they have a good string pattern, they will happily reuse it in subsequent new design racquet hoops. I’ve been thankful for this approach by HEAD for years. It’s why I’ve been able to get replacement grommets (also interchange CAP and non-CAP) for my old (classic) 95sq 18x20 HEAD racquets. All of their 21-22mm beam 95 sq in 18x20 racquets have the same string drill pattern.

@mteca5093 RA is measure of flex at the throat area (ie: just one point of the entire hairpin). With traditional box-beam racquets where the cross section of the whole hairpin is the same, it was a much more useful measure of flex. With elliptical design beams these days, the flex profile of a racquet from handle to tip can vary greatly, even if the RA is the same. As such, its utility is no longer as good and HEAD especially dislikes discussing racquet RA. The flex profile of the entire hairpin is much more important. On Racketpedia, there are some free access racquet flex profiles (measured at 7 points from handle to tip) that can be viewed which illustrate this. Eg: Radical MP 2023 and Prestige Tour 2021 are both 67 RA unstrung. However when viewing the entire flex profile, Radical MP is much stiffer at the handle, then softens out markedly towards the tip (softest at distal third of racquet face). Prestige Tour is more linear in its stiffness from handle to tip (softest at centre of racquet face). It is a common characteristic of more traditional design racquets to have a linear flex profile; probably because box-beam racquets had a linear flex profile. Just shows how vastly different racquet flex profiles can be for the same RA. Wilson Blade v8 is softer than a Prestige Tour 2021, but they both have a very similar linear flex profile. Pure Aero Rafa Origin 2023 is stiffer than a Radical MP 2023, but they have very similar flex profiles (stiff handle, sharp fall off towards the tip). RA is really outdated these days. Historically, Prince is the only racquet manufacturer to have ever published its racquet flex profiles. This was more than 10 years ago and for just a handful of racquets.
