Ghost Type Pokémon are among the coolest and most mysterious out there... but they're incredibly hard to find. Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon do have a good lineup of encounters though, allowing for wicked teams. Can Ghosts beat Pokémon USUM's hardest challenge?!

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Ultra Sun Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Ghost types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

22:49 - The NPCs in Alola EV train more often than not. What taught me this first hand was my first fight with Plumeria in Moon. I went at her with a Crobat of a slightly higher level and her Golbat cleanly outsped me.

My first surprise was my Crobat vs Nanu's Alolan Persian. I had fully speed trained Crobat and just assumed they outsped even with EVs on Persian. Nope.

Yeah, is being talked how Guzma's Masquerain is terrifying because is fully EV'd and have a good nature (Along with his buff base stats from 7 gen balance). Some trainers use competitive like Pokemon making things more difficult

I learnt from one of FlygonHG's videos that one of the ace trainers before the first kahuna battle has a fully EV trained Butterfree.

Btw I forgot that it has 5 or 6 IV's too, so is a perfect competitive pokemon

The Ace Trainers and the "route kahunas" are pretty tough, the latter use competitive items too. The Alola games are actually pretty tough.

Cool to see a nuzlocke of my favourite type on one of my favourite gens. I’ve been playing through a similar nuzlocke on ultra moon which i think is generally better for ghost types so u can get a dusk stone to evolve a doublade/lampent before olivia’s trial. Sadly though you miss out on Golurk and Totem Marowak but Chandelure was a monster in my run so i felt it was worth :)

Hey Silph! Long time viewer and fan, I have a run suggestion I haven’t seen too much of. A ground type run on hg/ss BUT with totodile as the starter choice. Viable early encounters but the grass type rival makes for a very fun challenge, plus there’s some fun encounters throughout the game! Great video!

Other than the first encounter being a bit sus (hand picking the encounrer), trade evolving the Phantump (connecting to another game) and using a totem pokemon (not really against the rules but they're kinda op), this was a great classic Silph run. The names weren't themed, you didnt use the non viable pokemon before they evolved, had some mad strats against the tougher opponents and you didn't need to hack the game for any encounters. More of this please my man ...like a fighting type run of XY, it's fun and difficult.

Fun Fact: I am pretty sure the files for HMs in Alola are still in the game, but don't show up anywhere.. by using "Totally Legit" means, and getting every TM possible.. the HMs that were changed to TMs appeared for a second time at the very end of the list, but they were unusable (No pokemon were compatible). it still said TM before the number though. it was just the next numbers after the last normal TM

Seeing Mudsdale at 3:22 made me happy. As soon as I saw Mudsdale I knew I would use it, and it VERY quickly became my favorite, surpassing Chandelure, Magnezone, and Houndoom. Even though Ground isy favorite type, I NEVER thought anything would replace Houndoom. I was wrong and I honestly couldn't be happier. Also, I love that my favorite is pretty unique as compared to others.

yoooo silph playing gen7 les gooooooo oof, shame your first attemp at gen7 ended up as a loss, specially in the very final stretch of the run. i would say with slightly better luck you would have suceeded, but i can see the early game is brutal with that teacher fight (couldnt you get a litwick before that fight though?) hope you try this gen again in the future, its a really nice change of pace despite people heavily criticising the games excessive cutscenes. also its possible to make some runs that are otherwise impossible in pretty much every older gen including ice only.

I've got 4 years of experience playing this game. I know it's a nuzlocke, but I couldn't get past the teacher unless I was at level 16 or higher. Also the type you chose is awesome, but you don't get it till you're past the trainer's school which was technically the beginning. Just a heads up. For ultra sun / ultra moon nuzlockes. I've got the types for the beginning of the game. Dark, poison, bug, flying, steel, and normal. Fire, water and grass are available too, but in gen 7 you're rival chooses the starter that's at a disadvantage and he isn't a challenge till the 3rd island. I'm still working my mind around these 3 nuzlockes since you're supposed to make you're rival challenging for yourself
