Imo the rule for monotype evolution lines should be: if a Pokémon becomes a certain type upon evolution, using pre evolutions is fine. However, if it loses the type you’re running when evolved, then you have to keep it at an earlier stage. For example you can’t use azumarrill for a mono normal, but you can use poplio for mono fairy.

If you have a mon that knows or learns the TM thief, you can take the club from Marowak to make it more manageable. You beat it, obviously, but it makes the fight a little easier. Thief can be found early game too. I just learned this bit of knowledge and thought I’d pass it on lol
