Can I Beat Terraria Master Mode Using Only Traps?

I've beaten Terraria using only traps once before, but in this video I crank up the difficulty ten times over by playing in master mode. So is it even possible to beat the game? Well, guess you'll just have to find out for yourself. Enjoy! :)

Try building a boss arena that completely negates all of the boss's attacks. That usually works.

37:10 The reason no Paladin spawned is because of one of the least known mechanics of the Dungeon. It's actually split up into 3 different biomes, not all of which can spawn Paladins. You will know which biome you are in based on which enemies are spawning, the background wall, and whichever banners are littered around the area. One of these biomes spawns Hell armoured bones, one spawns Rusty armoured bones, and the last spawns blue armoured bones. The colour of the dungeon does not affect anything, only the variant of background wall you are standing in front of. (Brick walls spawn blue armoured bones, slab walls spawn rusty armoured bones, tiled walls spawn hell armoured bones.) Paladins, necromancers, cursed skulls and skeleton commandos only spawn in areas with Blue armoured bones Ragged casters, spike balls, and skeleton snipers only spawn in areas with Rusty armoured bones Blazing wheels, Diaboltists, and Tactical Skeletons only spawn in areas with Hell armoured bones Bone Lee spawns everywhere Giant cursed skulls spawn in both Rusty and Hell armoured territory. You were farming in rusty armoured bones territory, that's why no paladins spawned. Hope this makes your life a little easier in the next challenge :D Edit: It's not impossible for any enemy to spawn in any area, but the chance goes from 90% to 5%. It's possible to obtain the unsafe variant of each wall to make your own biomes by dropping the safe wall variant into Shimmer, allowing you to build your own dungeon anywhere in the world, in fact. @@puritan7473 It's weird that there's no explanation for it in-game, you can be farming in one place for hours without knowing why only the same enemies keep spawning. It's not even a new mechanic or anything, it's been around since the introduction of post-plantera dungeon and most people still don't know about it. I only even know about it from prowling through the Wiki page for Shimmer and seeing that you can make cursed dungeon walls.

Did you know you can shimmer dungeon brick walls to make cursed dungeon brick walls. Cursed walls will allow enemies to spawn. Meaning you could have had paladins spawning in the hallowed farm you made. I believe you can also do this with spider walls, but you managed to get spider fangs pretty easily so it didn’t matter. Loved the vid btw. I’m glad you came back to do it in master mode

I've watched my fair share of Terraria challenge videos and thought some of them were just straight up insane. And this is one of the craziest and most impressive things I've seen in Terraria, no exaggaration. As someone who is perfectly comfortable at making use of every single advantage I have and only going at the bosses after over preparing in Expert mode, I can't even imagine myself beating the first boss with traps in Master mode, let alone Moon Lord. Also, your edits are awesome. They are just right in that there's not too many cuts or unnecessary effects. The occasional joke was also done very tastefully, never getting to the point where I thought it got annoying but always there and making me smile. All n all, great video. You definitely earned a sub.

If you play modded, there's a mod called MrPlague's Authentic Races. It has a Lizhard class that starts with 6 sentry golems that scale dmg from your defense, but your own characters dmg is cut in half. Defensive Golem: Spawns Walls on either side to deal contact dmg. Laser Golem: Latches onto ceiling and floor moving vertically and shoots out a laser to its side. Chain gun Golem: Same as Laser Golem But Horizontal. Latching Golem: Shoots out chains to nearby enemy's to imped their movement for a few seconds. Chain ball Golem: Has 2 spinning BALLS that go around it hitting enemy's, does the most dmg compared to other traps. Finally, Healing Golem: Shoots out a little heart bomb, when it explodes it heals you if your near it. I'm going to try a playthrough with it because of this video, I hope it turns out well :)

37:20 It appears you built the trap in front of pink slab wall. Bone Lee can spawn anywhere, but the paladin demands Dungeon Brick Wall specifically to spawn (Marked with the necromantic sign and marching bones banners)

If not, the only option would be to make the the NPCs to kill the Eye of Cthulhu, and kill Deerclops by bonking him with the Shield 505 times (in Master Mode).

I just had an idea watching this challenge, given there are so much weapons in terraria, would it be possible to beat the game having only 1hit per weapon per boss ? If possible i'd watch the hell out of that, seems like a burden but fun to watch lmao ! Great video as always !!

My biggest opinion as a non expert who hasn't played terraria since they first introduced master mode is you don't have ways to dodge. If you just had platforms every so often allowing you to jump up and then drop by down, you would have forced some enemies to go higher and stay in higher damage zones and it allows you to dodge more often. Damage output would suffer some but I don't think it would matter much since you'd be more likely to survive and you could make bosses go back to where they take the most damage. You did something similar with Empress but you were going down taking the enemy out of damage zone. I would even say if you die that way. Put boulders there and when you drop down push a button that makes the floor solid again and activates the boulders. Not sure that is possible with one button but if it is that keeps damage going while you dodge. Just a few thoughts. You did an awesome job. I could never do this. It was great to watch.

Can you beat terraria while actively fishing. What I mean by this is that During boss fights you need to be fishing most of the time, meaning direct damage is banned. If this damage form can't do damage while you are holding a fishing rod, you can't use it. So summons, sentries, traps, etc. are allowed. It would be less painful probably but I'd love to see it. I want to see an arena that's got pools of water all over the place so you can dodge and continue fishing. The idea is that you have to be actively reeling in fish during boss fights and monster grinding and such. Basically you know if you fish without a safety box you have a build that maximizes passive damage with stuff like the bone helm from deer clops and the spore sac from plantera? I just think it'd be really cool to have the player beating a boss and grinding fishing loot at the same time.
