Tony ended up asking to join me (I was playing as a single) to finish out the last several holes during a very slow rd at The Ranches in Eagle Mt about 10 yrs ago. I’d watched him on the Big Break, and on tour, but not expecting a pro to be playing behind me and because he is such a humble and friendly, down to earth person, I didn’t catch on for a hole or two.. but the sound of his strike, and the zip of the ball through the air, and hitting everything miles further than anyone I’ve seen in person, I knew he was more than a casual golfer (lol) I asked if he “played in college or something”. He said “um, well I actually play on tour, my names Tony Finau” .. then it all clicked hahah. Anyway, such a nice guy.. he even complimented my shots when they were so obviously bad - especially compared to his. It’s a very cool memory. A part of me wishes I had taken a picture of him or with him, but it was also cool to just have a front row seat for a few holes.

We called him Tony Phenom at the GMO because he drove the 371 yard 16th hole 4 straight days in 2007. Great guy, for sure, but after not following him for years after the GMO, was surprised to find out it took 7 Tour Qualifying Schools to make the PGA Tour. Wow! Amazing how he had to work so hard to earn that status. Good for him. Tough guy! The best to him!
