For drilling without collecting: You used the automatic on/off switch, which can only drill in drill mode 1 (collecting resources). In order to gain access to drill mode 2; drag the drill icon from 'Block Tools' onto your hotbar. Instead of acting like a switch, it will now act like your hand drill, using left click for drill mode 1 and right click for drill mode 2.

I enjoyed it. I don't even know how long I've had the game at this point its been so long. Watching someone go through all the mistakes I have ever made in one play thru was impressive. The last play through I built a base Near a faction station, built a conveyor system to just outside the outpost, built a storage building that was the same grid as my original base, then separated it and made a piston set to connect my old base to it. Then I just connected the two of them when I wanted to deliver to storage, and use the storage building with conveyors and pistons to connect to the faction station to deliver items. Everything was automated so I would just take contracts and fulfil them over and over. I would just fly over take a bunch of contracts, extend the base arm to it and then just comply with the contracts. 😆

Hello Bob! Just found your channel. A couple of tips. Use the admin menu (Alt+F10) to turn off garbage collector. This is why your first ship disappeared. Second, if you want welders, grinders and drills on ships to behave like player tools, don't pull them into your hotbar from the block menu. Instead, hit g, go down to the block tool tab, and pull them into the hotbar from there! Happy Engineering!

As someone with almost 2000 hours in space engineers, i love the way you think about the game, when i started out i was so curious about everything wanting to learn everything there was to learn about the game, after that i found my way and got into a routine, then i discovered multiplayer and started learning about ship constrution, eventually designed a shipyard capable of fully printing large grid ships automatically without mods, then i got back into singleplayer and just started making my own fun roleplaying with myself and pretending people were there when they really werent, set up a base on every planet and made a great large grid ship i dubbed the star liner, it has an autopilot that can avoid asteroids that i use to fly me anywhere i want, my first time flying to mars was in a little large grid ship with a sleeper and no jump drive, took me all day to fly there but that sense of accomplishment was amazing since i essentially built the ship as i flew there, that one i dubbed the survivor since it had only a tiny room in the back with atmosphere and the rest of the ship looked like a giant ribcage, it also had an auto pilot

Don't worry about what resources your asteroid has as long as it has lots of ice. My first gas station was just rock and ice. You're going to build a base on there and set up 9 pistons, 3 for each axis, with a rotor at the end and 3 drills, all piped up to large cargo containers and a series of refineries. You'll have hundreds of thousands of iron in no time, enough to build everything else.

So a couple tips: 1. The way to use miners on ships like how you use the drill on foot, when you press "g" to edit your tool bar there should be a tools tab, swap to that and drag the "drills" to your hot bar 2. The way to combat the thrusters working against you can be done by grouping your "reverse" thrusters, finding them in the Groups tab and setting a hot key to just turn them off while you are lifting off, or just disable inertia dampeners during liftoff process (a little more risky since this also disables left-right balancing, but honestly fine) 3. A super helpful ship design is a universal one where you can make the same model (with the tools cut off) save the ship design, then use a projector to mass build them using my next tip after that you can just tack on whatever tool you need for that vehicle (welders, Saws, or drills) 4. PRINTERS ARE AMAZING (this is using the "welder" tool block connected to your storage, put them on a piston and using a projector and turning on the welders you can mass produce ship designs 5. Get ship guns, the handheld stuff is just too risky with those ship guns shredding your poor little meatsuit, and the early guns get the job done and are pretty remarkably cheap (magnesium can be a pain for ammo but one good node can keep you rolling for a few encounters. 6. Dont be afraid of atmospheric rovers, give them some weak thrusters that stay predominately turned off for a jump boost over cliffs (REMEMBER BRAKING THRUSTERS THOUGH) these guys are much cheaper and with some clever designs can be great scouts, Transport vehicles, and if you start trying the new automation update stuff, can even serve as effectively connectors between bases (build a road though, the AI drivers are a little drunk) 7. Solar panels up high + rotors + AI core "follow sun" mode = Amazing power efficiency 8. Protect your batteries and connectors with at least light armor (definitely go heavy if combat is a possibility), they are super squishy and almost ALWAYS are the cause of rapid unscheduled disassembly. really hope we see a 200 days, Space Engineers is such a rewarding experience to learn and master, maybe if you want a bit more spice you could add a pve combat modpack once you get the base game mastered.

Definitely give this a part two. Some things you’ll probably want to know for part two that I noticed you struggled with in this: -For controlling the drills you’ll want to go into the block tools tab on your G menu when setting up the cockpit bar actions and assigning that. It won’t pull up the list of actions like it would with the grouped drills. Doing this will allow you to control the drills like you would hand drills which means you can clear a lot of -stone quickly without taking up your inventory -For mining ships its smart to have a stone sorting system to deal with excess stone so you have more cargo space for ore. This is especially necessary when mining stuff like gold while planet side since gold spawns in very thin veins. What you’ll need is a conveyor line leading to some sorter blocks. Since it’s stone you’ll only need the small ones make sure you have the arrow on the block facing away from the conveyor line as the sorters are only one way. Then you set up the sorters to whitelist then add stone to the filter list. On the end of the sorters put an ejector (they’re now called small connectors btw) and have them set to collect all and throw out. If you want to disable the system so you can collect stone, I usually bind collect all on the ejectors to turn off and on in my cockpit. -for quickly setting up a gps of a location in an emergency you can use chat commands instead of using the control panel. By hitting enter you open up chat then do /gps. You can also add the name of the gps right after it if you need. You can’t recolor it so you’ll need to do that in the control panel but if you need to get your location down quickly in case you’re gonna crash and you want to recover the ship it’s a handy thing in a panic

I really like to doing space start games but surface start games offer different obstacles that are fun to overcome, too. Looking forward to watching the next one.

This was a ton of fun to watch. I made so many of the same mistakes starting out too! SE is a grand game, and tons of mods can add more content and depth to the game as well. From neutral corporations that spawn structures and ships for you to attack/raid - to things like Reavers from the Firefly universe. Bloodthirsty space cannibals that hunt you down with a passion. Amazing format for the video, loved the narrative "simulation' style. Would love to see a part 2!

I love the format you took with this video. I've been playing for a long time and so watching some players early gameplay can at times be a bit frustrating (wishing I could help them), but instead yours was funny and showed how your character's, er, character was developing throughout the video. I'm definitely going to check out your other SE videos. FYI, you can view contracts that you have signed up for by pressing the semicolon button (;) at any time.

Thanks so much for watching! One neat trick is you can always restore a back up after a big mistake if you want to. It wouldn't have been as fun to watch if I wasn't bobbing it up though so I just rolled with it.

Loved this! Props, Bob! By the way. Put your ship drills, welders and grinders in your 1st slot on the bar to control them with the mouse buttons. Then with drills, you can left click to drill and collect, or right click to create the big holes.
@SurvivalBobGaming Жыл бұрын
Thanks man! That drill thing was driving me nuts!
@khyron8509 Жыл бұрын
That was awesome bob 👍 lets have some more please, also right mouse button while mining digs a bigger hole without collecting 👍 if you've set up the drills on your hot bar properly.

As someone who made few but very major mistakes when I first started out, i.e. not putting enough stopping force into my first ship(which was 780,000kg empty that I named The Brick) which made my 10 hour work of art slam into the ground at terminal speed leaving behind only scrap, it's nice getting a perspective of how other people go about starting SE, and has helped inspire me into doing things different. I used to set up bases on an ice lake instead of near and then I'd have to haul many inventoried of rocks to said base-wasn't fun- but now I've finally decided to use that drill-arm setup that you used for mining. Anyways, rant over, and thank you for the video, I'm hoping for a part two where you try and bridge your way between planets
