Nice first build. Reminds me of all the mistakes I made. For example when I saw you clamp the neck and body together, then bust out the cordless hand drill I was like-- OMG.. Noo. I would have mounted your trem bridge - since the body was already pre-drilled, put the tuners on and a nut, then clamp it together with low and high e strings installed, then you could line everything up. including lining up the pickup screws with the strings. If you had to drill holes for the pick guard that would have been the time. When mounting the neck I use the plate as a guide to drill 4 holes in the body first and use a drill press. Then clamp it together and continue the holes into the neck. Here's where I do something different. Once you have your 3/16" holes drilled through the body and into the neck , I take the neck back over to the drill press and re drill the holes to 9/32 in. The I install Everbuilt #10-32 brass insert nuts (From Lowes) into the neck. Then I mount the neck with #10-32 x 1-1/2in counter sunk screws. Makes for a very tight neck joint. Anyways.. that's my 2 cents :).

Please make sure those sunglasses protect from uv rays, starring at the sun with cheap sunglasses with no uv protection is actually more dangerous than just plain starring at the sun, because it will dilate your eyes wider for a dark environment while still still letting uv rays in. @Case_ Жыл бұрын
It is better to have sunglasses with UV protection, sure, but it's not like sunglasses without UV protection will somehow destroy your eyes within days. It might at best have a fairly miniscule effect after several decades (and any actual scientific proof of the long-term benefit of using UV protective sunglasses is almost nonexistent). It's not like the difference in pupil dilation with and without sunglasses is that significant to begin with, plus you only wear sunglasses a fraction of time, so the rest of the time your eyes are "unprotected" from UV anyway. Saying "she should not wear those" is vastly overblown. The whole UV protection scare is to a large degree just luxury brands trying to sell you their insanely overpriced products (and cheap sunglasses doesn't automatically equal no UV, too). Also, fun fact, even with UV protective lenses, a large amount of UV radiation finds its way into the eye around the frames anyway. So yeah, sure, UV protection is a nice thing to have, but it's really not that big of a deal you've been made to believe either.

The adjustment point was clearly visible at the moment you took it out. My experience told me to make the neck perfect to your liking before even thinking of connecting it to a body. So, straighten it, flatten the frets, crown them, polish and then you'll be good to go, neckwise. Enjoyed the video though. I have found that wire colors do not necessarily correspond to expected norms when buying super low-dollar products. That wood is playdonium. It has the same hardness and strength as drilling into buttered toast.
@9999plato3 ай бұрын
Make sure you hammer or press those frets into the fretboard first before you start grinding or filing the frets. Its highly likely that humidity changes made the frets pop up higher just as many guitars have fret sprout on the top or bottom of the neck. Good luck Jedi Master.

On the temu website that neck is advertised as zebra wood, which is a real type of wood. That is most definitely not zebra wood so it is definitely some sort of plywood, or how you said sticks glued together lol.

Wondering what the parts would have cost to build that. I know prices are varied and subject to change, but just a general idea ballpark figure would be cool. Maybe I missed that part though. Surprised that all the parts were there and functional for the most part. Very interesting.

it was like a $160ish order, i should have figured that out for the video you are right. I approached it more as a 'can this be done' sort of dirrection.

@@60CycleHumcast Ive given Temu a shot. Just to compare it with price and quantity of direct access to China comparing it to the two other sites and rate it low access and doesnt price beat. For me theres no reason to go there. Last time I checked "guitar" theres was no access through Temu. At $160 for a kit thats a no. Thats $100 over budget especially for a Zebra neck and broken bridge. I know you gotta feed your kids but you dont have to feed them mine.

I’m a big Temu fan. Now I’m a big fan of yours, you’re a nice gentle funny bloke. You do have an absolutely gorgeous wife! Well done on all respects! From a 71 yr old Brit who just missed out on the bidding for Rory’s Tatocaster today (by £888,990) so maybe I’ll treat myself to a kit one! Great stuff!

Invest in one of the cheap notched straight edges and set the neck straight before installing the strings. Unless you use a heavy gauge, it will give the perfect relief every time. I went with the purple TEMU body, but a black satin neck from Amazon.
@Peasmouldia Жыл бұрын
An un-notched straight edge for the neck angle would save some vexation too...I have both. Cheap and surprisingly accurate.
@squib311 Жыл бұрын
@@Peasmouldia I also use an un-notched for checking fret level as opposed to a fret rocker. Simply place it on the far edge and slowly slide it towards you making note of any light coming through. Something else I always do is to try tapping down high frets slightly with the butt of a screwdriver handle as opposed to dragging out the file automatically. And of course I use an un-notched for checking the level of the bridges on both acoustic and electrics.

Passive electronics need shielding not to buzz, as I hear. I know it costs some extra time but a bit of a thin copper tape in the holes under the pickguard would do a lot.

The neck looks like PSL (Parallel-Strand Lumber). It is an engineered wood consisting of strips of wood glued together. I would imagine the resonance of the wood/glue combo would cause the strings to sound more like a resin reinforced maple neck and sound much less warm than a softer wood. That is just my guess.

I love the individually bagged tuners. It wouldn't be from China if it didn't unnecessarily waste a bunch of plastic! BTW, buzzing in the lower frets, like the first 6 or 7, is usually an indication of the neck needing some relief. You may have overtightened the truss rod. Before making any more adjustments, let it settle in under string tension for a bit. That material is just getting used to being a guitar now for the first time. Buzz in the upper frets is a good sign that the action needs to be raised a little bit. Also, you should always detune your strings before making adjustments to the action, whether up or down. Hope this helps you in taming that beast, lol. Good luck, and have a happy holiday!
