Good to have you back. Great topic too. Would you be able to do a short vid on your line weights. Info about leaders and best weights for your soft plastics ?
@LightTackleAnglerWA2 ай бұрын
thanks man- i like to fish light. for bream and tarwhine, unless i'm fishing VERY tight structure i'll use 4lb leader (a couple of arms length for treble hooked lures and one arm length for soft plastics). i'll run 5 or 6lb around very heavy strcutre or if im targeting silver trevally / small samson fish in the river, also if im targeting flathead. lighter than most but, unless you use very small soft plastics, 6lb for flathead will rarely give you a problem. for bream, i'll default to 1/16th ounce jighead and if there's not much current i'll go lighter even down to 1/40th at times with the right plastic. if there's a lot of current e.g a bridge on a running tide i'll go to 1/12th if need be. you can go to 1/8th if necessary, probably best to slow roll on the bottom when using 1/8th as the hopping motion can be a bit fast and jarring for the bream. for most other bread and butter fish species in perth, a 1/12th or 1/8th jighead is fine and it allows you to fish faster with better casting distance (e.g flathead fishing) braid wise, stick to 0.6PE (equivalent of 6lb in daiwa j braid and shimano kairiki, but more expensive braids will have a higher breaking strain for the same line width (PE is basically a measurement of diameter)). PE0.8 or 1 is good for tailor off the beaches etc, PE1-2 for salmon, bonito etc off jetties, beaches and maybe rockwalls. its 4am so may have missed something but there you go :)

i'm very disorganised so probably dont have as much as i should, i was even using nail clippers as pliers in this video aha. braid scissors and a delicate pair of pliers are probably the most under used things in people's tackle boxes.

Close to where I live. I've never caught a flounder before, and I didn't know that spot was good for them. Great vid. I've caught Breem, Cobblers, Flatheads, Tailor and yellowtails.......also plenty of blowies and the occasional trumpeter. sounds like a plan! on the fence about carp because i'm hesitant to promote fishing in an area with no fishing allowed, which a lot of carp spots in Perth seem to be (from my understanding but could be wrong). If I can find a spot that allows fishing i'd be happy to add carp or koi to the list!
