I don't know this book series but I love the idea of a medieval/fantasy fighting dress with secret pants. It looks great 💕

When you read the description from the book, I thought, "Hm. That could describe Princess Leia." But, you managed a very different look.

It really could!! Maybe a fighting Leia dress should be added to my neverending list of projects... 😂😍

@@bronwynemma Still working on it! Wore it once with pieces I already had but now I want to make a ranger cloak that is more in style with the ranger's apprentice (camo) than the cloak I use now which is more lotr rangers like 😊 While also figuring out how to wear a quiver to carry a bow on my back - because it is explicitly mentioned rangers have their bow strung at all times I believe, and I don't want to be carrying it in my hands at all times - without compromising the wooshy-ness of the cape 😅 I am also investigating if I want to make my jerkin in leather or wool for over my tunic and am still figuring out archery gear for my arms that are more aesthetically pleasing but more functional that the ones I have now...aka still a whole list to do haha 😅🤣 Ooh fun! Looking forward to seeing your interpretation!

The final dress is beautiful, the trim and embroidery are such a good addition! One thing I'd personally change is that despite the need for movement, I'd still connect the skirt panels, but maybe make them a bit wider for more range of motion. That way, it's still a dress but for horseback riding purposes, you could simply hitch up the overdress and sit in the saddle normally using your shift pants. But if you still want to let them hang loose, which is definitely a look that could be really cool, how about lining the skirt section and give it a wide, stiff hem to make the panels stiffer? I think the skirt would move much nicer that way. The way it is, the disconnected dress panels are too flimsy for my taste and might also get in the way of fighting, like it happened in the reveal footage. But that's all just my personal opinion of course, I'll definitely subscribe and see what other projects you'll do because this just gave me so many ideas for making my own kirtle!
@bronwynemma9 ай бұрын
Thank you!! I'm happy I was able to inspire some ideas for your own creation!! And I agree, these panels did come out a bit floppy 😅 I like your idea of lining the panels or even perhaps using some horsehair braid at the hem. Though I think if I did something similar again, I'd sew the front and back skirt panels together, leaving just the sides open. Then there's still plenty of movement, but a bit more structure!! ❤️

Beautiful! So exciting to see you make a costume from RA (It's a favourite series of mine) You've motivated me to keep working on my ranger costume- I've got the cloak but I'm slowly making the grey wool pants, and planning to make a shirt and leather jerkin! Much love, fellow Aussie

It's such a great series!!! Definitely a favourite of mine 😍 Is your cloak camouflage?? I would love to do a Rangers outfit, but the making of the cloak has me a little stumped as to how to get the mottled look! 😅
@ruysclan8 ай бұрын
@@bronwynemma yes! it's mottled olive green and slightly lighter green- not exactly how the book describes it, but I like the look, and it suits our bushland a little more I did it by tie dye, just scrunched and tied some dull light green fabric in random patterns then dunked it. I imagine that could be done again with brown dye to give an even more complex mottled pattern
@bronwynemma8 ай бұрын
@@ruysclan Amazing!! And in the books, they alter their cloaks to suit the lands they travel to so it sounds perfect!

lovely work, very impractical for rangering and travelling though, the extra flowy fabric would get caught and tear.
@rebekahhibbert44239 ай бұрын
The character the dress is inspired by is not the ranger, she's a diplomat/spy. This is a formal uniform dress for her job.
@bronwynemma9 ай бұрын
Definitely not ideal for sneaking through forests! Maybe a shorter version for travelling should be added to her wardrobe 😜 But as Rebekah so rightly says, this version is her official fancy outfit ❤️
