I would choose a much darker warm tone as a highlight in the bathroom. It will have the strength of colour to offset the navy. Everything you have there is basically the same colour, cool grey and nothing like your warm bowl tones. My vote is another trip for more samples to find a colour rich enough to balance the navy.

When I heard the wonderful news of your engagement, one of the first thoughts was that you should thrift everything [except food-you gotta draw the line] from linens, glassware [your favorite], serve ware, place settings, vases, artificial flora, bridal gown, grooms attire etc. I think that would be quintessential Karen and Roger. I've had vinyl planks for 10 years, its great BUT has its drawbacks. It's easily scratched, so if you decide on it, be sure to put felt under everything that might scratch it. Also be sure to keep an extra box that matches for any replacements. When it's time for me to purchase new floors I'd look into the wood look tiles. They're supposed to be scratch resistant and the look is amazing! I'm sure your renovation will turn out beautifully!

Vinyl floor looks great but be careful, it can get scratched easily. Since it's not wood it is difficult to repair any scratches. Personally I would always stick with tile for a bathroom floor.

Karen, you have such good taste. The vanity is quite beautiful. It reminds me of a Terry Blake leather/suede handbag I spotted in a glass case at St. Vincent DePaul thrift store for under $50. The color was Blue with Gold hardware. When I got home and researched it, I found out it was worth over $300 dollars and sold it for $250!!

Smiling isn’t coming easy for me these days because my precious doggie who had end stage hemangiosarcoma crumpled and passed away 2 weeks ago. I am devastated. I knew he couldn’t survive the cancer, but it still hurts. Just when I think I do not have any more tears, they flood my eyes again. So watching your videos always lift my spirits. We just redid two bathrooms and I regret not matching the lighting above the mirrors to the faucet material and handle material. The light fixtures are brushed nickel and the faucets are black. Wish we would had picked black light fixtures. Love the blue vanity! Can’t wait to see it finished.

I believe she said in an earlier video that they are going to paint the vanity hardware..what color, I couldn't say. So hopefully she'll pick the color to match the lights. Btw, I personally don't like black fixtures

Luxury vinyl plank flooring is great. It is very water resistant and is much easier on your feet than tile. If you are a pier &beam foundation you would want to have heating under the floor. We love the vinyl plank flooring…with 3 kiddos and 3 dogs it has held up beautifully for the last 5 years.

I did my whole house in luxury vinyl from Home Depot. I love it. So easy to clean, good to walk on, no issues. Just have area rugs in the tv room and soon to be game room.

Yes please, do keep us updated about all the exciting events and planning leading to the wedding! Personally, I'd stay away from the "lux vinyl" and choose tile instead. It has a tendency to "lift" from the seams after a while. Good luck with the renovations!

When updating my sons house, we did a lot of shopping on Etsy, from lighting to sinks, shelving, for the entire bathroom. It came out great and because we bought it all from the same seller we were able to ensure that things matched. Just a thought! Cheers to you both! Dawn

I live and thrift north of Pittsburgh. You should make a trip one day to St. Vincent de Paul’s. On Saturday they price color tag of the week at .99 for first item and .49 for second! I pay .74 for my items. Clothing is mostly mall brands but I have found Spyder, Patagonia for .74 among others. Usually I am able to source three or four higher end brands. Fun!! And cheap. 🎉

Yes, we all want to see the house progress, the wedding plans and wedding, all the things (LOL)!! As for the flooring, my sister has it down in her 3 bathrooms, her hall and family room. She has a very large dog and 3 young kids who are very active. It has been down quite a few years and looks as good today as the day it was put down. We are going to redo our bathroom floor with it (currently has marble tile and is too slippery, with RA I am constantly worried about falling getting out of the shower or tub).

Thanks for showing us things you are looking at and picking out Karen. I know you won't have time to document everything but we will enjoy whatever you can show us. The stone you picked out for the shower was perfect. It's a close match and like you said, won't be right next to the vanity. Personally, I would go with the golden tone floor samples since you will be putting allot of yellowish wood accents around the room. And I like the idea of painting the vanity hardware as the lighting fixtures are a silver tone. Mix and match is great, but this wouldn't look cohesive, more like something you just added on later.

I love our luxury vinyl planks (LVP). I selected a commercial grade since I have 2 standard poodles and oh my gosh, the upkeep is so much easier than with carpet. As a former kitchen designer, the higher grade LVP is an excellent choice for bathrooms and kitchens because of those rooms having water. I always look for products that have a lifetime residential warranty AND 20+ year commercial warranty. I love the selections you’ve been reviewing. You have excellent taste.

Luxury Vinyl tile or planks is a great idea. We built our house 7 years ago and have LVT in all rooms except the bedrooms. 3 85 pound labs and there are no marks or blemishes on the floor. Tough stuff! Wish I had put it in the bedrooms with a rug...

I like the same flooring that you pointed out. I have luxury vinyl flooring and love it. Dust mop it and damp mop as it will show water spots where water beads up. Looks like wood but will not swell or buckle if there is a water leak.

I love your design choices. We remodeled our master bedroom and bathroom three years ago used the luxury vinyl planks in both the bathroom and in the bedroom and we love it. Basically maintenance free easy cleanup.

I love a heart of pine wide plank look. Warmer and more in line coler wise with the bowl on your vanity. Vinyl plank holds up so much better than the wood version. Doesn't tend to shrink and leave slight gaps over time. The big one for me is water and moisture no matter where in the house it is. Things get wet, people spill, knock over things, etc. With traditional wood floors that are sealed, you never had to worry about that. Easy clean up. However, with the new style of "wood" flooring, there's nothing sealing every seam. It DOES have an impact. Vinyl is much more effective at blocking that ever though nothing is sealing each seam.

2nd comment- i’ve seen some comments that have said that luxury vinyl scratches easily, but I have a darker colored luxury vinyl in my home & I have had no problems with scratching at all, it’s very durable, imo:) 😊

We have luxury vinyl in our church social hall and it has held up beautifully. It looks like real wood and a fraction of the cost! Make sure you have thin grout lines in the bathroom tile! Love being included in your house shopping!

Love the snap shots! Easy to clean vinyl that looks like wood -- what's not to love? We are considering it for our finished basement. If it scratches, you can replace a piece :). Don't forget to take care of you (and Roger) in all of this--the reselling/buying world will wait ;)!

Hi Karen, fun redecorating a home isn't it? I've done 4 so far, 1 was not much of an upgrade but at least 2 were total makeovers. I did all the tiling, plumbing, painting, choosing materials, plans myself - yep I'm a woman too...and I've never done those before. I did hire someone to put put on a new roof, add on the deck, hang the french back doors and put a cement floor in the garage. I hired a plumber to come in and check my plumbing and he said yes it looks good...and left. A $75 charge for about 10 minutes inspection LOL. I plumbed in my kitchen sink, a washing machine and clawfoot bathtub with a shower too. The reason I am commenting is looking at your flooring pieces I would go with one that has some bluish grey tones in along with the brown wood tones as your vanity has some grey in it and also blues and grey's naturally pair together. I do like your vanity, you can always change out the hardware if you wish...that's pretty easy, you just have to match the holes up with the new hardware which you probably already know. I found these really interesting pulls for one of my homes, they look like dark iron rustic tree vines. That was an investment home, which I made to look like a little "this old house" which was so fun - as it really was an old house. I found a gorgeous ornate piece of carpet that looked like 1920's in the sampler piece section of the carpet store...was 70% off original as a smaller piece which went into the master bedroom. That plate depicts the Russian fairy tale couple Ruslan and Ludmila. They are Bradford Exchange plates and that particular one first debuted in 1988, just before the fall of the Soviet Union. Early plates in the series were made in large quantities, so they tend not to be worth much (like most of these collector plates). With the package and certificate, it could sell for up to $25, but most go for $10-15 or even less.

@Karen when you go to the vinyl flooring place ask them if they have a color vintage cabin or Berkeley oak. It is gorgeous in it matches almost to a T to the accents that you were using in your bathroom. I think you’ll really like it for color of your flooring.

Instead of painting the hardware black, consider changing out the bathroom hardware with twine/straw covered hardware! It would blend beautifully with your decor, and coordinate with the light fixtures. Beware, matching up the holes can be tricky, so painting may be the easiest way to go until you have more time later!

I would plan on wood-look ceramic tile or painted concrete tiles - perhaps even a so tilo, but currently have and love the old softwood everywhere - including baths - just an old 1924 beach house turned year-round..

My grandson dropped something on our vinyl floor (we still don't know what) but it made a quarter sized indent that I don't know how to fix it does also like someone else said scratch really easily. I would not choose it again. So happy for you two.

I use my clay cooker all the time. I put a whole chicken in it. I put a cut lemon in the cavity of the chicken. Cook in oven for a couple of hours. The chicken comes out so tender. Julie

My mom has the vinyl flooring. My husband and I installed it for her 5 years ago. It was easy to install and still looks good. She has dogs and a large cat running across it and no damage from their claws. The vinyl holds up well with liquids so this works better for mom’s pets as well as more durable for kitchens and bathrooms. Definitely show us your renovation progress! I did use the heavy luxury vinyl flooring , the long plank look to stagger. I chose one thats almost a barn board look with browns, greys and cream. I love it. No scratches at all in 3 years and easy clean up and excellent wear. I agree with you, the bathroom needs "warming' up with wood accents and floor. The wood bowl has more gold and darker tones to it which also compliment your gold hardware on the vanity. If you love the tones in the bowl perhaps take it with you to look at samples....just to have hints and streaks of that hue would be awesome.

Don't pick a wood color that will end up leaning towards the red color tones. LVP flooring is water resistance, pet resistance and scratch resistance. Wider planks are more modern. You'll make a good choice.
