Can I fix a Tamagotchi with faulty buttons?

I bought a Tamagotchi on eBay that is having some problems with its buttons. Two of the buttons have to be pressed really hard for them to work. In this video I see if I can fix the broken buttons and get them working like new again!
I did some research on this specific Tamagotchi version. I didn't put this information in the video because I doubt most people will care, but it turns out its an exclusive Japanese version that had unique features such as being able to communicate with your phone (which was pretty novel back in 2004). The full name of it is the Keitei Kaitsuu Tamagotchi Plus, or K-Tama for short. Here's a link to some info on it (the one from my video is the "Pink" model):

Thank you. I just received a brand new Tamagotchi Sweets Meets. The buttons were extremely stiff and wouldn't register clicks unless I pressed very hard. I opened up the Sweets Meets and another Tamagotchi Meets I had. I switched the buttons between them, rather than clean them with alcohol as I wanted to see if that did anything first. The Sweets Meets now registers the buttons better and feels less stiff because the Tama I took them from had buttons that weren't as stiff. Surprisingly, even after putting the original Sweets Meets stiff buttons on the other Meets - the buttons work perfectly on that one.... button responsiveness is great but the buttons are still kind of stiff. But at least they work! If they go funny again I'm going to try cleaning them with the alcohol or maybe switch them with one of the other Meets I have. Your vid gave me confidence to open up my Tama (: so just wanted to say thanks!

Friendly little PSA. The battery shown at 1:00 is actually not the correct battery! Tamagotchis use CR2032 batteries, not CR2025. It will power on, but they only really last about 3 days before dying rather than several weeks. They're also slightly smaller, so it's possible to accidentally disconnect it too. Perfectly fine for testing purposes, though!

Thank you for this video! I followed your steps and fixed the C button on my Angelgotchi! I cleaned it and changed the buttons. It is working well now! The only problem I had was avoiding dust on the screen until I screwed it again, but eventually, I was able to do it.

Hii i managed to fix my own tamagotchi keitai! mine was second handed so this was also usefull so i could clean it and my buttons didnt work. and if i say they were gross i mean so gross it looks like the tamagotchi decided to be a football. there was mold and sand in the housing. but i managed to fix it and now its clean and the buttons work perfectly again! thank u so muchh

i have a "pet game" tamagotchi. the button "decide" its so bad to press (it's down) sometimes its WAY TOO HARD to press it one day, i dismounted it and tried to fix it. when i got it back in place the button got good (for some minutes) and it got bad again still bad.

Hi! I found my Tamagotchi v3 back from all this time and I opened it and what the same problem as you with mostly the A button which was hardly working for 2 days and now it just stopped working completely. I have zero experience in tech stuff. Pardon my ignorance but will ethylic alcohol work the same? and do you think that adding a drop of alcohol instead of opening the device would cause further damage? I am afraid I'll ruin it and I dont trust local stores because of previous disappointing experience. Also, idk if you could help me but the sound is not sounding, even though it's on. how could i fix that? thank you for your time!

Just got a Tamagotchi connection V1 or 2 today and same thing, buttons aren't responding. A and B will sometimes after multiple forceful pushes but C is completely dead. Was excited to fix it but the screws on the inside were so cheap, they just totally rounded. No clue how to get them out given how rounded and small they are :') Any suggestions would be massively appreciated. I've looked into all sorts of ways but I'm just worried about breaking it.

Is it the screw on the battery compartment or the ones on the inside board? It depends on how stripped the screw is but you might be able to just use the rubber band trick. It's the first trick shown in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKHFfWueYpydibs Just make sure to press down into the screw pretty hard so you can increase the friction and your chances of it working. If that doesn't work there are a few other ways but they are harder and require other tools.

That's too bad😟 the most effective way is probably using a circular dremel tool to cut a groove into the nail that you could then twist with a flathead, but most people don't have that tool lying around their house. If they're not in there too tight, you could try super gluing something to the top of the screw and then when it dries you can try twisting that and it might be able to twist the screw as well.

I have a question. I recently fixed my tamagotchi and it works but once I try to use my tamagotchi, it appears for a while but then it fades away from the screen. What can I do in that case? Can it be fixed? Thank you beforehand for your help 😁

Have you tried new batteries? If so, maybe the screen isn't being held into place tight enough, maybe try opening it up and placing the screen again and then screwing things down a little tighter.

First I would check to make sure it's not a problem with the battery. Try using a different battery or use a battery that you know works.

Should be pretty straightforward if you have the buttons to replace them with. You can transfer buttons between Tamagotchi's as long as they are a similar type.
