If you have 2 pieces of angle iron roughly 2 feet long, you can sandwich the metal you have to bend in the vice...then hammer form the bend. At least you will get a longer bend out of it. You will save time too...looking good!

And even better if you put two side piece on top one s and a 2 large bolts with sliding cut out to the sickness of the metal your bending and you can just hit the top one will give you a better accurate Bend even still.

You don't really need to brace the door. With a roof on and chassis rails, it's going nowhere. A roadster will need a brace as it has no roof and can flex.

Probably not so much in this case but it doesn't do any harm and I wouldn't rely on the roof alone if it's a big section the length of the car it will still move

Was the inner sill patch panel butt welded or lap welded? X2 on the idea of using steel angle iron to use for the long bend.

Just found your channel. I remember doing exactly the same repair on a 1966 roadster back in 1975! Buy yourself a joggler for edges and punching weld holes, cheap one is £15. Will follow your work and good luck. Have subbed!

Maybe get into the routine of making yourself some paper or cardboard templates before you start cutting metal out, the templates will give you a good idea of your replacement panel's you'll need. Cheers rich1899

OK who thought about Austin Power's 1000 point turn when it came to moving the B. great bit of driving . Angle iron, Hah , how about a Fence Post and a sledge fit it in a very rusty Midget many years ago, Excellent work on the sills and floor pan , that must have come as a shock seeing the holes. , but it's coming together

An excellent result, well done although I wouldn't have attempted welding, grinding and paint spraying in that confined space without a forced air supply mask. It's great having a restored car but you need lungs as well. Just sayin'

It's coming along nicely it is worse on the near side as I predicted you haven't checked the rear wing arch yet? What about sticking a nice Mercedes engine and drivetrain in? a V6 or V8 that would be nice you can pick them up from scrap yards quite commonly something from an SLK
@HJRgarage
@HJRgarage 14 күн бұрын
@@jedi-mic it is indeed worse! Although the rear spring hanger and arch doesn’t look as bad! Apart from the edge of the rear wing, I have now bought 1/2 a rear tub for the wheel arch! I am still undecided on the power train. On the one hand it’s a lovely original car on the other hand I have always modified my cars. So I really can’t decide and with money tight at the moment I really don’t know if I am going to keep it or potentially let someone win it or buy it! I need to have a big think about what I am going to do! Space is tight at my house and I have the Jaguar there which has massive sentimental value. If I could put a modern power plant in the MGB and make it my daily that could be the answer! But that means getting rid of my XJR. 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ thanks for watching!

sorry but that inner sill repair panel still looks way too thin. It should be 16 gauge or 1.6mm. From the way you worked it, it looks like 1mm? You would have been better advised to buy a pre bent repair section from one of the main MGB parts suppliers. At just over £40 you get the right material and save the time fabricating an inadequate repair section for what is a significant load bearing (impact protecting) side member.
@HJRgarage
@HJRgarage 14 күн бұрын
It’s 1.5mm sheet steel and measured the same as the original sill. Yes it would have saved time to buy the repair panel but it would have cost more and taken more time to wait for the panel to arrive. Thanks for your comment though 👍🏻
