Can I Fly A Drone Near An Airport

What website are you using that shows the allowed altitude near the airport? I've seen it in other videos as well but have had no luck finding it myself. Thanks in advance.

I’m using the app and website for “Aloft”. You can make LAANC requests through the app as well.

I'm going to need to try again with it. So far on my Mac Studio and 2017 iMac it only works with Firefox. So weird. Thanks for letting me know it's working for you.

just wondering. if you fy indoor. is it not so that there is no gps reception? that would mean that the drone does not know where it is and you should be fine.

In many indoor situations we have gotten GPS signal in the building. 2 of our most recent indoor flights had GPS signal. At a recent warehouse we had no GPS, and the drone still functioned well for our flight. But there's a good chance you'll get some GPS signal even indoors.

The two LAANC airports around here will just let "further consideration" requests time out. As a result, I submit a lot of Dronezone requests. Flysafe is why I have gone with Autel. "Flysafe" has had me running down streets trying to find a way to get it back to me and also had it land several times when it suddenly detected controlled airspace where none existed. When flying in overlapping controlled airspace, it just decided to land on the edge of a roof (I saved it) . It has also refused to take off with the DJI unlock and FAA authorization with a lot of people looking on and a training facility waiting for me to finish. It was embarrasssing.

Wow, talk about "issues"! I'm starting to think it's time for me to look closer into Autel as well. I can imagine that whole scenario would be embarrassing as well. Thanks for sharing your story, I'm sure other folks will find it interesting and instructive as well.

I've been left sitting on site with a DJI drone (Mavic 2 pro once, P4P once) unwilling to take off because DJI - The Apple of the Skies, refused to take my unlocking code. For that reason my Autel has become my standard aircraft, my P4P is for when customers request "must be a DJI drone" because they don't know other, maybe better options exist.

What apps work with Autel? Are there any of the big name 3rd party apps that it works well with? If not, can you create waypoint and mapping missions on your Autel???

@@AZ-Drone Autel never released the SDK for developers to use for 3rd party apps. That really stinks. That being said, It can do ortho flights and waypoints. The lack of some 3rd party app availability is annoying, but being able to always take off is the payoff I'm willing to take. I also prefer the Autel camera. DJI always looks oversaturated to me, but that's just personal preference.

For the people who are newer at this... there are other airports that are uncontrolled. You can fly practically at the airport (but not on airport property unless you have permission) without any kind of authorization. However, you are required to yield to manned aircraft and not to interfere with airport operations along with not doing anything careless or reckless. Many people still seem to believe that "you can't fly near an airport" or that there is some magic "five mile rule". Those beliefs are wrong. I can't post links outside of KZbin but if this situation applies to you, do some research. Be prepared to explain the regulations to anybody who may question you, including local law enforcement. Depending on where you live, your local cops may or may not care about you flying and they may or may not be educated about it. Same goes for your neighbors. Above all, be very careful. the last thing you want in your life is an incident between your drone and a manned aircraft.

@@AZ-Drone You have been doing great work on a variety of topics. Everything from airspace to web pages for our deliverables. It's practically impossible not to let something slip through the cracks once in a while. I'll be purchasing your course on web pages deliverables. You have covered a lot of that in various videos over the last few years but it'll be great to get it all in one complete course. I think my biggest limitation at this point is my portfolio of what I can offer a client. Imagine a restaurant with great food but a terrible, incomplete menu... that's me.

What about NON DJI Drones....

In the case of non-DJI drones you'll still need to put in for permission to fly in the controlled Airspace. If there's an additional process with your drone manufacturer, you'll need to follow it. But you won't be subject to DJI's fly save unlock.
