The sequel is kinda mean-spirited in a not-very-fun way. I'd say watch it on your own. There are still so many movies I'd want you to watch that haven't (yet?) hit the reactor zeitgeist in a big way: Walk Hard Lucky Number Slevin Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang Men Who Stare At Goats foremost among them. "Mr Right", "Stretch", and "7 Days in Hell" are excellent, underappreciated movies, but I don't hold out much hope that they'll ever be properly appreciated.

@@cw1345 You missed the point entirely. The movie has comedic elements and the dude that looks like a pseudo-modern Batman is kind of a dork who is emulating the 60s Adam West Batman. Your comment about it not being the 60s is kind of stupid since he wasn't actually trying to play a modern Batman here. Not to mention the fact that the 60s show made Batman a household name and saved the comics from being cancelled and falling into obscurity. It also created multiple generations of REAL comic fans because it was entertaining for children and funny for adults at the time. You wouldn't likely have any modern versions of Batman without it.

I saw in some interview that the ammo issue in the hallway shootout was because they filmed a lot more footage of that, but it was making the hallway appear to be a country mile long so they cut a lot of it out, making it look like she was always out of ammo.
@rbrtck
@rbrtck 4 ай бұрын
@@raymondgilbert1341 The thought had occurred to me that it could be the result of editing, but it happens in other scenes, too, like the night vision scene. Maybe that was also edited down and/or reordered, I don't know. Whatever the reason, the end result is that she often appears to be artificially short on ammo. And of course she was "nerfed" at the end to let Kick-Ass be the hero. I totally buy D'Amico beating her in hand-to-hand combat while unarmed or barely armed, since he had some fighting skills and was much bigger and stronger, but she could have gone for his gun instead of throwing it aside, for example. And earlier, she never used her stun grenades when they could have come in handy, possibly. Carrying a few fragmentation grenades would really have come in handy when she was cornered in the kitchen, as well.

Glad you enjoyed this classic Jen. If you are interested in watching Kick-ass 2, it's worth mentioning that it has a different director, who kind of tries to emulate Vaughn's style, but doesn't really hit the mark. The new director also goes for a much more faithful adaption of the Kick-ass 2 comic (faithful to a fault seems to be the general opinion), whereas Matthew Vaughn's Kick-ass, and the source comic diverge pretty heavily- to the point that one could argue that the core message at the heart of comic book, and the philosophy of the film adaptation end up in opposition of one another. I know some fans weren't happy about the changes, but I personally feel that they ultimately made for a more satisfying film overall. I've tried to give Kick-ass 2 several chances, but everytime, I'm let down unfortunately

The reason Big Daddy is talking like that is because he’s mimicking how the original Batman spoke in the 1960s TV series. It’s very campy and I think you’d love it.

THat moretz scene where she murders those fools in the apartment is amazing. Holy fuck. Especially that moment when she bounds forward and kicks the dude into the wall. So good.

You commented on how they referenced the comic book movies, like how Big Daddy looked just like batman, another reference you missed is the way Nicolas Cage delivered his lines, it was an exaggerated form of the way Adam West spoke in the Batman TV series.

Little known fact, the gangster crushed in the yellow Range Rover was a reference to another Matthew Vaughn movie Layer Cake, which was also Daniel Craig's unofficial audition for James Bond, another movie worth watching.

Someone in the comments said you can't shoot hard body armor more than once saying that the plate shatters after the first shot, but Smyth Busters have a video exposing that as a myth that's based on the performance of earlier ballistic armor, and many other KZbinrs have demonstrated modern body armor with metal plates, ceramic plates, or composite plates stopping multiple shots from the firearms more powerful than those used by the villains in "Kick Ass."

Jen, that music in that lobby scene was from those Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns: "Fist full of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and the Good the Bad and the Ugly".

The comedy of this movie is that the main actor, Aaron Taylor Johnson, ended up playing Quicksilver in Age of Ultron. His friend was played by Evan Peters who ended up playing Quicksilver in X-Men films. That said, there are few other actors in this who had either been in or would be in other superhero movies. Mark Strong (Green Lantern & Shazam), Nick Cage (Ghost Rider), & Jason Flemyng (X-Men first class & Deadpool and Wolverine).

It just dawned on me what the key to Jen's cinematic heart is: gratuitous violence (with style)! But it will be hard to top Kick Ass... 😄 I remember that when the movie came out there was hand-wringing over 13-year old Chloë Grace Moretz playing in such a violent R-rated movie. Echoes of 14-year old Linda Blair in The Exorcist.

Chloe Grace Moretz was 12 when they were filming the movie, and 13 when it released (the character is 11 at the start of the comics this is based on), and IIRC her mother in particular wasn't very happy that she was running around saying "cunt" on screen at 12 lol. And yes, 'that guy' was in the X-Men movies as Quicksilver. Kick-Ass played Quicksilver in the MCU.

The scene where big daddy is burning always gets me.. i never understand why most laugh when he's screaming, it brings a tear to my eye to hear the hero and loving father figure of the movie in such immense pain. i for one always took that scene seriously, i mean he's burning alive.. it's not meant to be an honorable and theatric death to witness. instead, very grounding and gruesome.. which is in theme with the tone of the entire movie. point being, those screams were very realistic and fitting imo.

The one thing I wish they had added to the movie from the comic, when hit-girl and kick-ass go to the penthouse, hit-girl pulls out a vial her dad gave her of 'superhero formula'. It's cocaine, and hit-girl proceeds to kill everyone while coked out of her mind.

Nic Cage was actually supposed to play _Superman_ and Kevin Smith was supposed to write the script for a while. If you ever watch Kevin Smith talking about that experience please make sure you've watched "Wild Wild West" with Will Smith first, another film produced by the same producer. And Hit Girl's rampage through the hallway? Oh GOD that was amazing in the theater. We were laughing in _shock_ at how _awesome_ it was. That's like, you know, the daughter of John Wick and XENA there.
